Google maps took us to another trail head than what is suggested on this trail. We ended up starting at the other end of Belcher Hill Trail.

It’s a beautiful trail; we did it today with our 1 year old daughter - she loved all the wildflowers and birds. Lots of birds and green on the trail. As it was rainy for a couple of days - there are wide muddy areas on the trail - had to be careful not to slip on the mud. Saw 3 people slip on our short trip. There are so many options to go about the trail - long or short - Will definitely go back later this year.

Great hike. Wonderful views. Crazy muddy though. Incredibly slippery. The dog and shoes were covered in mud by the end.

Awesome meadows. Mountain views. Lightly trafficked by other hikers. Some mountain bikers but not too many. Spotted lots of deer. Easy parking

It was great. Easy to moderate. Beautiful and easy to get to

Horrible trail.. felt like a second class citizen because of all the mountain bikers. It’s also not ‘hard’ like the review says.. it’s quite tame.

Amazing trail for bikers some good mechanical stuff in the beginning and gnarly.

First half is dry and ashy like a fire once burned there but the other half is lush and green like fairies live there ;)

Easy trail with some good views of Denver

Really cool geology and views. We got there around 8:30a.m. and were one of two cars in the parking lot. We left around 11a.m. and the lot was full. Even for being there as early as we were, we saw tons of mountain bikers. We also saw a rattle snake and a dusky grouse! Overall, it’s a nice hike.

Easy hike, nice views. Great when you want to squeeze a little one.

Amazing views especially the loop at the top but I would not hike this trail again. We got passed by 50+ bikers some who were nicer than others in sharing the trail. Biker experience took away from the hike. I would definitely not recommend taking a dog on this trail.

Pretty hike and a good workout but WAY too many mountain bikes. No exaggeration, we passed (or got passed by) 75+ bikes today. We hiked about 8.5 miles (Belcher to Mustang to Sawmill and back) and there were bikes throughout the entire way.

Great easy hike though there’s quite a bit of mountain bikers. Keep your eyes up!

A bit windy in places, but overall, a really great hike. Beautiful scenery and some fantastic rocks to be seen.

Beautiful trail on a lovely day with my pup. There were lots of hikers and bikes at lower elevations on a Sunday afternoon, but the trail cleared out as you got higher. A really great hike!

Very peaceful trail. Low to no traffic. Easy terrain through and through.

This was the best hike I've been on since my last 14er. The ist 4-5 miles is steadily uphill but doable if you're in decent shape. My 21 year old daughter led the way with our dogs, Miller (living the High Life) and Ellie. My 14 1/2 year old wire haired mutt that keeps going and going...... The views are expansive and the trails are either dirt or dirt/rocks. We began on the southern part of Belcher Trail, hiked a few miles and turned left on the Mustang trail. Once the Mustang Trail hit the Sawmill Trail we continued to climb a not too steep pather until we reached the Sawmill Trail campsite near 7500'. This is the high point of the hike. The campsite is amazing! It has excellent tent sites, fire pits, picnic tables, free firewood, clean restroom metal bear bends, No one was camping but my daughter and I decided to backpack and camp their a night or two on our next visit. We did come across a couple of people riding horses, a handful of mountain bikers, runners, and small groups of hikers throughout the trip. But we were alone for a good portion of Mustang and Sawmill Trails. Sawmill eventually intersected with Belcher Trail again and it was downhill from there. There was some snow in the higher elevations but not enough to pull out crampons. The trail was dry for 97% of the hike. We began at 1:30pm and ended around 5:15pm. We hiked a total of 8.8 miles, climbed 130+ floors, and took over 20,000 steps. Overall, it was one of my favorites. We're all going to sleep well tonight. Adios for now

Perfect day to hike on the trail, weather was perfect. Not very muddy, sections there was still some melted snow and mud mixed in but basically dry for the most part.

We hiked this clockwise today...somehow it felt like we were ALWAYS going up? It was beautiful! A little muddy in spots, but nothing too serious. Just remember to walk THROUGH the mud and not around-- it damages and widens the trail when we step off, leading to even MORE mud as time goes on.

Hiked this trail today. Still pretty muddy but if it kept the hoards of people away, I’m fine with that. Nice easy hike with some moderate spots.

Fun, scenic hike where you will see hikers, bikers and people on horseback. We are beginner hikers and the incline was pretty challenging but doable - even with a 20 lb baby on your back. Super close to downtown Golden for a bite after you’re finished!

Love it

I did this trail along with White Ranch Loop. It was nothing but muddy trails (60% of the trails were covered with mud!!) even 10 days past after the last snow and it has been warm days(Today was 57F). If you enjoy mud run/hike, do it!

Feb. 13th, sunny skies with wind as usual. No extra traction needed unless you're super uncoordinated. Please pick up and pack out your dog waste, your yellow bag is just as unsightly as a pile of poo.

Solid run! With lots of trails to make it longer/shorter. I’d recommend heading down mustang trail and back up belcher to make the loop. Otherwise, doing the opposite, you’ll have quite the climb up mustang for the end of your run. Mountain bikers on the trail too, keep your head up!
