Backpacking

Just thought I would mention that this is NOT a hiking trail. Once you pass Lake Agnes there is no trail. Its a "climbing route" with lots of loose rock and exposure. Do not attempt this if you are not experienced in mountain climbing. With that said, its is very beautiful and if you are experienced I would reccomend it, you will most likely have the summit to yourself.

We completed this on July 4th (2020). From our campsite to Kelly Lake, it was actually 16 miles (out and back), and there was a sign that said it was 6 miles (one way)... the map we received from the visitor center did NOT mention the length of the hike. I highly recommend bringing LOTS of water to drink because my bladder ran out of water after the first three miles. The trail itself is pretty clear, a little muddy in some parts, and you have to cross a couple of small creeks to get to the lake. You know you’re getting close when the trail starts to go upward and it does get pretty steep! There were still patches of snow that the pups LOVED to play in, so that was fun! For an accidental hike, it was pretty amazing!! PS: if you’re prone to mosquito bites like me, lather up! I sprayed before I left our campsite and I counted 53 bites by the time we got back

Beautiful views and well marked trail. No trash and few people. Steep to start and levels out with nice balance of incline and level grade. Arrived at 10:30 and plants of parking.

It’s a long uphill dirt road to get there. Not a lot of parking but totally worth it. It’s a pretty hike and totally worth it when you get to the lake. It does get a little windy up there. Recommend this one!

Beautiful trail, amazing scenery, next time will drive the 4wd part of the road to shorten the hike and bring some fishing gear. Warm and steep but satisfying.

2nd time doing this trail and I loved it just as much as the first time. Nice gradual incline on the way up with beautiful scenery the entire hike. There is still a snow patch when heading to the lake, but it’s not deep or difficult to cross. Highly recommend good boots on this trail as it is very rocky and a little muddy.

Great short hike. Very steep with lots of switchbacks. The road to the upper parking lot is gravel and narrow, no way a camper could make it.

Got started at 8:30, maybe 8 cars already here. Some were backpackers. Gorgeous views a lot of the way. Wild flowers are amazing. Wonderful hike to the pass.

One of my new favorite trails! Easy hike, stunning views! Would recommend driving/off-roading to the second parking lot. If you want a longer hike you can park at the first. Otherwise great trail and stunning views at the lake!

Beautiful trail, great for dogs as there is a lot of water to drink from on the way up. Just a few small snowfields to cross that are very easy. Wildflowers are beautiful and many moose sited. Second lake still has a bit of ice on it. We parked on the pass parking lot and followed the Michigan Ditch to the trailhead. Go a little extra up to view the park boundary for more views!

Gorgeous trail! Lots of shade on the way up with some meadows. There are excellent backcountry camping spots. It’s one mile from the parking lot to the trailhead so be prepared to 8 rather than 6 miles out and back. Don’t miss the waterfall at the lake!

Trail is in good shape. The lake is still partially covered with snow. Great hike and you can traverse the ridge line to 2 additional peaks. The 1000+ foot accent to Clark Peak is the hardest part. Fees are now $9.00 per car per day

Love the American Lakes hike- snow lake was a little disappointing, lots of snow still. But climbing up to Snow Lake did provide an excellent view of Michigan Lake!

Beautiful lake, and you can reach it from such a short hike! I couldn't make it all the way around the lake, although I tried-- too rocky!

The most amazing hike ever!! So beautiful! Saw 3 moose and an elk. Took about 4.5 hours. Had to turn right at the fork because the left was covered with snow, but would love to go left to enter Paradise Bowl at some point! Had to walk through a lot of snow 6/24, especially to get to RMNP and Snow Lake.

Classic CO views and trail! Took the Expedition ½ way up the Jeep trail and then parked. Hiked rest of way to TH and then on to Jewel Lake.

Incredible views of the Crags. Short but beautiful! For the extra adventure hike around the lake. Took my daughters around on Fathers Day. Some snow and scrambling but made it around. Go early - heavily traveled by the time we were headed down.
