Beautiful and easy! We just hiked to the bridge (1.7 miles) had lunch and came back.

Short, simple, beautiful. And the water was cold but great! Recommend shoes with good ankle support because even though it’s easy, there was a lot of loose rock. Also to get all the way to the trailhead will require decent clearance on your car.

If you’re looking for the trailhead in google maps, it’s called Potato Lake, not spud lake.

Beautiful views and the sounds of the river and my knees only barked a little- LOVED!

Still has some deep snowbanks that make navigating the trail difficult but should melt in a few weeks. Getting to the trailhead requires 4 Wheel Drive but the road is mostly dry. Overall a lovely hike!

This is a beautiful trail. When there is average snowfall the road will not open until the first week of June, however it is already open for 2018. Parts of the trail are a bit steep, overall it is not too difficult. The trail is 1/2 mile to the lake. You are at about 9,500 feet in elevation.

Great easy trail, the first portion is kind of steep but opens into a patch of aspen trees. Very easy and the lake is beautiful. Bring big spray, lots of mosquitos near the lake.

Went up the trail 5/14/2018 during a perfect sunny warm day. The spring of 2018 was extremely dry so the climb up was overall pretty easy and dry. Came across a few down trees during the climb but our Land Rover Discovery fit under them with a few inches to spare. I assume the trail isn’t cleared very often. As we approached the summit we came across some drifted snow which blocked the trail as well as a fair amount of 1-3’ rocks that had fallen on the trail so we hike the last section up to the falls. Beautiful scenery and long range views. Great trail but as you reach the summit the trail narrows however there a several places to pull off on the way up. Passed only one other truck on the climb. Had a great time, great trail.

Beautiful trail. Easy hike and easy to follow
Canyon, meadows and you are either by the river
and can easily access it or you hear the river
I did 6 miles out and back and the trail was dry as a bone

Loved this trail! Perfect if you’re looking for a simple day-hike. Only negative is the trail isn’t marked very well, in my opinion. We will definitely be back.

Hiked this trail on 5/9, absolutely amazing hike! The hike there is beautiful and then of course the lake itself is almost surreal.

The trail runs along the road through a meadow for about the first two miles, so you can easily lop 4 miles off the total distance just by driving further down the road before you start. There are lots of trails through the meadow.

You cross private property for 2/3 mile, but it's well-marked and trail users have permission as long as they stay on the trail. A bigger issue is the emergency access gate into the Bible camp; the camp belongs to First Baptist Church, so you might want to call ahead and get permission before venturing onto their property. Sometimes they have campers or vacation Bible school up there in the summer.

I had a hard time finding the back end of the loop at the camp; it's not where the GPS map says it is; just follow the road up the ridge when it forks.

Not marked well

You must take the 637 route not the 633 or you end up at a private locked gate that denied access to the falls. So take care to locate the right route.

230 miles of Pure beauty. Start early, as you will want to stop for many pictures and a lunch, weather a picnic or stopping at an eatery. I highly recommend Baked in Telluride. All homemade and very reasonably priced.

Gorgeous scenery, but the weather made the trail that much better. Probably in the 50’s while we were there, but there were still spots along the river with frozen waterfalls and snow that hadn’t melted yet. As City folks, the wife and I wore sneakers so it made it a little more challenging with the ice and mud. Probably should of did a little more research on the trail to know when to turn around, but who doesn’t enjoy a good mystery. We turned around at the little bridge.

Rough drive to the trailhead. SUV or pickup truck is best. You need the ground clearance. Once there, it's an easy hike. Especially beautiful in Autumn when the leaves are changing. Be advised that if you want to take a dip, the water is very cold. Don't ask me how I know.

Awesome view at the end of the trail of the two buttes. I'm glad they are inaccessible. The big challenge was the 3 mile hike to the trail start due to the park not opening until May.

Minus the first half mile mudfest, once reaching the river, the scenery was spectacular. Cliffs on both sides with a small stream creating a frozen waterfall on the opposite side. Hiked this during a snowstorm which really made it memorable. I'll have to plan this hike again in the summer and have a picnic on the waters edge.

Great trail and beautiful . You have great choices on the trail and great opportunities for photos. I am pretty new to hiking, and this trail was perfect. It was enough to get the exercise I needed without asking me feel defeated

Nice short trail and view of the falls. The drive to get there takes away from the review although the trail itself and surrounding area was very nice. Try to take a SUV or truck and be prepared for a longer drive to get there.

I saw beautiful nature during Autunm season! Very beautiful!

We wanted to do this trail but found a road closed sign when we came to junction close to trail. We went ahead and walked the closed road which had : ft of snow. We enjoyed the walk and the beautiful scenery. We did not make it all the way to the official trail.

This is a beautiful and fun trail. Took my daughters and filled up our phones with photos of really unique things (for these Texans anyway), like frozen waterfalls, huge cliffs & sheer rock walls, the San Juan flowing in and out of frozen sections... Very doable and easy out & back hike. Highly recommend!

We followed the directions from this app and ended up at a closed gate 2 miles from the destination. No signs leading to the falls. After a long drive on dangerous roads, we ended up having to turn around and find another trail.
