We hit this trail on a very cloudy and wet day! It was a pretty peaceful hike with very little traffic. I am a 40 year old man who never hikes and we made the lake in just over 90min. No fish is what they say but I didnt break out the rod to test the waters. Here is a quick video. https://www.facebook.com/WPUNDERGROUND/videos/2115173798724641/

A nice hike overall. I would recommend it for a day hike. It was pretty crowded by my standards. Lots of dogs on and off leash at the top. A guy smoking pot at the top too. But I managed to find a nice quiet rock to sit and each lunch and stick my feet in. The top of the hike is where you gain all of your elevation which not the best. At that point the trail is a bit eroded. It could use some basic maintenance, but manageable.

Busy but beatiful! A beautiful trail with lots of wild flowers. Well worth the hike. It is in no way lightly trafficked. During peak season on the weekend the parking lot will be full and over flowing onto the road by 9am.

Only went in the first mile or so. Steep so very challenging Parking is sketchy. We overnight camped on the first flat area in which was very nice with a great view.

Easy hike. Off the beaten path. Very pretty. My 9 year old Granddaughter led the way. was a great ending to the day.

My home lake... a nice gentle walk around the lake... beautiful scenery!!

It is a uphill hike all the way to the falls. Somewhat rocky but well worth it once you reach the top. The hike back down was extremely easy but the hike there takes a toll

Don’t be fooled by the guide when it tells you you’ve arrived. The only marked trailhead in the parking area is for the Monarch Crest Traill. You’re looking for a trailhead on the other side of US Hwy 50 next to a yellow “steep grade” warning sign.

Beautiful hike, abundant wildflowers with some great incline near the top! Well worth the trek. Low traffic as trail nears top cuz folks bail. Lake is lovely, nestled in amid pines.

Wel groomed trail. Dog loved it. Lake very beautiful. Not sure how you get around all of the lake but it was very nice to hike. Rained a bit on us which was also refreshing.

Hiked up to the aspen forest about 2.5 miles up the trail. Great views! Was a beautiful hike and only saw 2 groups of 3 on a Sunday morning. I lucked out on not seeing mountain bikers or crowds!

Summer - Looking for shaded place up in elevation. Perfect trail. Lots of shade and easy inclines. Parking at the trailhead. Ran into a few hikers (weekday) Love hiking a loop. Wish it was a couple miles longer.

The lake is beautiful and a great place to camp!

Breathtaking views, moderate inclines, clean trail, no traffic. We would recommend!

I first hiked this trail with my hiking group. I was amazed at the diversity of the trail and beautiful waterfall at the end. I took my husband, kids and friends the following year. Slightly strenuous at the beginning then levels out. Be sure and eat lunch by the falls and enjoy the mist... it’s heavenly.

Beautiful walk

Very nice but a bit busy, the hike itself it’s not a piece of cake but it’s not crazy hard either, you have to consider that it’s a steep hike up, just take your time.
We saw solo hikers, families, definitively dog friendly.
Took us about 1 hour and 40 min to go up, gorgeous views, we stop by the waterfall to have some lunch and then continue our way down the loop. About one hour down for us.
Totally worth it !

June 26, 2018. Be aware of the bear! I hiked up to the summit and back, roughly an 8-mile round trip. About halfway back to the trailhead, I ran upon a large black bear, I'd figure over 500 lbs. He was resting in the brush about twenty feet off the trail and I probably startled him as much as he startled me. Luckily he wasn't aggressive, so we parted on friendly terms. Just be mindful that the dry weather has driven some of the large animals closer to water.

Pretty packed but a great trail with water along the way

horseback riding

This was a great trail to ride horses and dogs, lots of water to play in. A little busy with mountain bikes going super fast but everyone was very good about stopping for our horses. The dirt road is tough and narrow to get to trail head, but there is plenty of places to turn a horse trailer around once there.

I love this trail! It’s one of the best trails I’ve hiked on in Colorado. My husband and I’ve hiked it twice, once when the Aspen were golden and with a dusting of snow on the ground. It’s got beautiful scenery, a variety of terrain, and a lovely waterfall at the end.

Loved this trail. Moderate is the right description. Missed the turn off for the falls but the next mile and a half was great views. Hit the falls on the way back . Spectacular falls. Water is so pure.

Trail is closed, but as we were getting ready to leave a logger gave us permission to use the trail, it has been logged but it’s still a nice hike and the view is certainly worth it. Also it’s a nice breezy 80 degrees up here vs the 105 temps down in Pueblo. I suggest going to bishops castle as well, if you are already in the area.

Great time! My wife and I loved it. Her first drive (Wrangler Unlimited in 4H).

We started in Leadville & drove through to Fairplay. It’s not challenging, but it’s very rough / rocky. The views are beautiful.

Backpacker and stayed two nights. So secluded and quiet! Somewhat strenuous, but nothing too crazy. Can't wait to come back!

First mile and half is a pretty steep climb, gets a little easier after that. Good coverage from aspen trees. Big payoff at the end with the falls. Lots of fun log creek crossings. I hiked this in May 26th with my 8 year old son - falls were flowing good.
