Beautiful ascent along a creek to an open meadow with aspens. Large rock outcroppings add dramatic views.

I went with my 4 year old daughter. It was wonderful! Until the loop. If you are going with young children I would recommend turning around at the loop. It gets pretty hard after that. We saw more butterflies than I have seen at one place and they were everywhere for the whole hike.
There was a very angry rattle snake on trail so watch out and listen out! All and all this was a great trail. There is a bathroom at the trail head but no water. We brought 3.5 liters of water with us and finished it all before the end. If you bring a filter there is plenty of places to get more water (before the loop)

Hiked this trail today with my 2 year old. I carry her in the backpack, and this trail was perfect for that! Not too strenuous, but still worked up a little sweat carrying 40 lbs of toddler and snacks. Beautiful views, densely wooded and next to a stream the whole way. We only ran into a few other people, which made the drive worth it in overpopulated Colorado!

Road was closed to 4x4 traffic. Tough/steep hike for first 2 miles. Dogs enjoyed the hike and we saw turkeys and a young male moose. Saw a few mountain bike tracks but had the trail to ourselves.

Backpacked to Jasper Lake 5/4-5/5. Awesome trail but difficult due to the amount of snow. Winter warning advisory was in full force. Def a snowshoe territory that week. Trail was difficult to find but AllTrails def helped a lot. Lake was frozen almost 100% . Not a soul in sight which made it so much more attractive. The route to the lake was for us traversing a few hair trails but made it finally and went home after two nights.

07 Toyota 4Runner Sr5 4wd stock: Just did this after a heavy rain. Very fun and not too bad. I made it and a Subaru did too. Rocky but 1ft clearance and good aim you’ll be fine. The section of puddles was great.

Did this hike on 5/18, still a good bit of snow and would definitely recommend snowshoes. Lost the trail about 1mi from the lake, so be prepared to find your own way. Still a very beautiful hike.

Beautiful hike! You hike alone the river most of the time. A lot of water on the trail and a tiny bit of snow, but definitely easy to maneuver. Right before the end of the Big South Trail a waterfall washes out the trail. It’s probably doable to cross but I was alone and figured it was safer to turn back. But seriously beautiful!

This trail is beautiful!! Amazing views. I’d recommend doing the whole thing, including the OT trail. If you start to the left on the trailhead it has more of a steep decline. And then if you come up on the right side of the triple trail, it is a service road. Not hard at all, I will definitely be back for trail running.

Pretty hike along the water. went early in the morning and no one around.

I nice and easy hike dog and kid friendly. So going back this summer.

Follow the trail up to the left and over the rocks to get to the bottom of the waterfall. Pretty hike. Easy. My friends 3 year old hiked most of it on his own.

Awesome trail! Hiked to Jasper Lake on 5/13. Pretty difficult hike as about the last three miles to the lake still have quite a bit of snow and the trail is hard to find or stay on and there was a lot of postholing, the lake was still frozen but beautiful. Definitely recommend a map until the snow melts. One of my favorite hikes in Indian Peaks

Went on 5/8. We were aiming for Rainbow Lakes but the road was closed so we opted for this trail instead. Much of the trail was still packed with thick snow. i didnt have snowshoes so a couple parts of it were a struggle, and I had to carry my little dog, lol, but it was a laughable and doable challenge. We only made it to the first creek then turned back. Trail is well marked which was much appreciated with all the snow cover.
There were two sections that opened up so you get a nice view of the snow caped mountain across the way.
Oh and there's a teepee!

Good hike. Only ran into two other couples hiking on the trail and a few horseback riders.

great trail with lots of places to relax by the water

Went hiking yesterday 5-7-2018 the entire route. Glad I brought a sandwich, snacks and 3 liters of water, The mileage recorded on my Garmin device (satellite tracking) starting and finishing at the parking lot was a total of 8.5 miles. Flowers were in bloom. Butterflies at water crossings. A group of 9 Bighorn Sheep (males) were on the hillside about two miles into the walk. And no snakes seen. Recommend going in the early AM. And if walking the entire loop, I suggest wearing sturdy shoes.

definitely need spikes and snowshoes. made it up with spikes and post-holed all the way down. packed snow and pretty easy until the roger's pass/crater lake split where trail gets more difficult. arrived around 11:30 and finished before 3. lake is still frozen over, a good trail for wind protection for most of it is in the trees

Easy hike, shaded.

This trail has a lot of people on it. It is great for bikers and runners.

Beautiful hike with a lake at the top! We hiked this last spring. Road driving up is pretty rocky. We meant to hike the 4th of July trail lower down on the road but couldn’t find parking anywhere so kept driving up the road and there was nowhere to turn around until you get to the parking lot at the trailhead. So we ended up hiking this trail instead. Was a pretty hike. Would do again.

Great trial. Just went out and back with Boy Scouts backpacking. Some felled trees, but took care of two of the three of them. The ice is now gone except at one creek passage (you can go around). Super fun and easy hike to get you out of the day-to-day.

Only disappointment is the number of people who think they can camp between the water and the trail. Enforcement would be nice.

Great hike with great views! Our 4 year old was able to do the whole hike on her own.

Trail was pretty cool! Short enough to enjoy, but long enough to be slightly strenuous. 360° views at the top were amazing. Watch your footing on the way up and down as there are lots of loose rocks.

Love this shady trail. It’s perfect for summer days and hiking with your dog. There is access to water the whole trail:)

Snow covered on most of the track. Had to return from the middle but few were doing it completely. Good luck

This was a easy trail to do with children until the trail ended by the waterfall. We weren’t sure which way to go but was able to follow a path up and over. My 2.5 year old needed assistance climbing up but with help we got to the other side and even made it to the reservoir as well. Very pretty, short, and easy.

Perfect trail for a sunrise.

Still a lot of snow. Glad I had both microspikes and snowshoes. Others were really struggling without.
