8/14/2019 it was amazing.. at the end of the trail....or what u think is the end.... there is a big Boulder/mountain.. There are a couple wooden looking signs.. one says Privy and the other if remembering correctly says Chasm lake... seriously, we took pics the whole way... we ate lunch next to what we thought was Chasm lake ... little did we know...for the hell of it... cause why not, we thought, let's climb up this mountain to see if there was anything else to see... holy sh*t!... so, we weren't in the best of shape so it was a bitch climbing up this thing, especially since we weren't sure there was anything left to see....... Cue Angelic Music.☆☆☆☆☆ aaaahhhh.. Flipping Glorious and so worth... I can't believe our dumb asses almost missed it. This summer 2020 when they reopen we are going to do the 16er to Longs Peak and as a reward... head back to the lake.

Snow was really packed all the way. Only needed microspikes.

Easy beginner hike!

Easy trenched out trail to follow. Snowshoes optional. Made it to the snowfield traverse until I called it a day. You’ll need crampons to get by, in my opinion. My micro spikes and axe wouldn’t have been good enough, even with moderate experience. Fun & beautiful outing regardless!

I love this trail. I’ve walked it three times now. I am severely over weight and out of shape and Even with the ice and snow I completed the walk in less than an hour. As long as you follow the tracks you should be mostly fine. I did step in snow up to my knee twice. However, I highly recommend spikes on your shoes for this time of year. The rest of the year the trail is easy to follow and very comfortable with a good chance at seeing local wildlife.

Hiked up to the lake on 21 Feb. Started at 7:15 and made it to the fork at 9:45. The wind was gusting to at least 40mph above tree line. But once on the trail to the lake, it died. But it had blown snow over the entire trail. I ultimately got out my ice axe to help walk across the snow. Getting to the lake was spectacular! And walking back and seeing my tracks was interesting. I would not have done this in the deep snow without my axe, micro spikes, and trekking poles.

A bit of a challenge to find the trail in the wintertime, but we eventually did, thanks to this map! Spikes recommended in winter. Incredibly humbling to traverse a mountain with such spiritual significance to natives of this land.
