Incredible hike. Snow around Dream Lake. Moderate amount of hikers out on a Tuesday afternoon. Parking lot at Bear Lake almost full.

Trail had some muddy spots from the lake surge from snow melt; but a very easy walk at elevation. Gorgeous reflections on a clear day! Third trip today- elk all three times, today a momma and calf moose playing in the water! Go early!

Nice easy walking trail. Perfect for watching sunrise or after dinner in the summer time to avoid the heat. Good early morning spot for catching a moose!

According to the signs and my GPS, it’s a little longer than listed here. But worth it. It’s pretty gradual but still a good workout. Went Saturday 5/29 when the park was open. Saw maybe 5 or 6 groups on the trail after arriving at the trailhead around 9:00. A few blow downs about a mile in but easy to navigate. quite a bit of snow for the last mile! Easy to lose the trail but it’s easy to know enough to generally figure out where to go. At least bring gaiters!

Hiked 5/30/20. It was such a beautiful hike. You pass two other lakes until you get up to Emerald, which is VERY iced over at the moment. Dream Lake and the other smaller one at the beginning are all water and it is amazing and breathtaking for pictures and views the whole way up. Friendly marmots and chipmunks greeted us at the top and WILL try to break into your snacks. We brought our spikes but my boyfriend did not find them necessary, while I found them very helpful.

The trail was amazing! I just moved here and this was my first real mountain hike! It’s definitely hard for someone like me who isn’t use to the altitude and who’s a little out of shape but it was a gorgeous trail. There is some packed snow in some parts passed the 1st lake and going up to emerald got sketchy but going down was fun!! People basically made a slide in the snow so I sent it and basically toboggan the whole way down. Super fun!

6/2/2020 Started at 7:30, about a dozen other cars parked (in the huge parking lot). Already warm. I usually hike as fast as I can but with this hike, I felt so peaceful and just... pleasant. Took my time (had to, with the snow anyway). Nymph Lake was calm and cute. Dream Lake was just gorgeous (saw two people fishing) and Emerald Lake was partially frozen (and I had deja vu of Grinnell Glacier from GNP in Montana). Covid19 experience: On my way up people weren't wearing masks (not crowded, morning people??). On the way down (9am-ish) everyone wore masks and were leaping out of the way for me to pass (I didn't wear a mask). Two separate instances, very kind hikers offered to take my picture (I was hiking alone, self timed photos are getting annoying) and were unafraid of touching my camera. One hiker literally caught me when I slid down the snow covered rock stairs. Both sides of the spectrum for social distancing here. Still lots of snow but I carefully maneuvered in my beat up nikes. I added a mile to the trek because I lost the trail so many times hahaha. A mama elk and her baby ended up on the trail, delighting all the families starting to hike up. She actually came quite close to me where I was crouching with my camera and I thought I was going to die, my hands were shaking for a good while after. Some hikers who saw said she only came after me because her baby was close. Terrifying but awesome hike regardless, I'm glad I did it even after reading how crowded it gets. Parking lot almost full around 10:30am (two days until RMNP goes timed reserved entry).

Such a fun hike, great variety, fun to pass Nymph and Dream Lakes on the way, amazing views. Dream to Emerald is mostly packed snow but we did it with kids age 0-12yo and all in Chacos/Keens and were ok.

The first 3.5 miles were great. Trail in good condition. We post holed the last 1.5 miles and stopped about 0.75 miles short of the lake because we were sinking in to the hip.

Conditions aren't ideal but its doable! Hiked 5/30/2020 arrived at 5:45 am with about 15 cars already there in the parking lot. Only seen 6 people on the way out and at Emerald. Seen about 20 to 30 on the way back!

Great trail, the beginning is the most of the incline. Big meadows is beautiful, we saw 8 moose in the meadow between our way out and back. Lots of muddy areas, a few spots of snow but nothing that is hard to get through/around. We had lunch at falls and it felt 20° cooler next to the falls which was a great break and cool down.

Lots of beautiful waterfalls along the river. We only make it to the first lake, Lone Pine. The trail isn’t visible past that due to snow. We encountered a few short stretches of snow to Lone Pine but easily traversed in only hiking boots.

The trail up to Fern was beautiful couple trees down across path but all clear. We decided to take the out and back to Spruce, the initial climb was clear and fine. Once we began the descent to Spruce there was a significant amount of snow pack - but we managed to break trail all the way (without snowshoes) to Spruce with only few spots of bad post holing. The wetlands are closed so only 1 spot to pull up alongside the lake that’s hard to find. We followed our tracks back to Fern relatively easy.

If you are concerned about Social Distancing and masks you may want to reconsider. Less than 10% wearing masks. It was very easy to lose the trail due to all of the snow but if you go after 9am you should run into others that can lead the way. There was a lot of snow to go over which made it so beautiful but a little scary at times because I was there early and was not sure which way to go. I survived. Lol.
