This is an easy and excellent cross country ski / nordic ski trail. Brought 2 kids who skied, played on frozen creek, and had snowball fight. We skied out about one mile and back one mile. It was a great way to spend a Saturday.

We took this loop today with our dogs. The right hand side was pretty tough but still manageable. The left side was extremely easy. Snow wasn’t too bad. Great views on the right side and at the summit.

Nice scenic drive from a Georgetown to Grant. Views would have been much prettier a few weeks earlier with the Aspens, most had lost their leaves already. Completely paved There are hiking trails you can stop at on the drive.

Pretty easy trail, and as mentioned below, there are a number of no vehicle signs on a number of the off-shoots. The mine at the end of the trail is accessible, with the old beat up truck that are in many of the pictures that you see about this trail.

Drove the whole trail, which gets noticeably steeper and more challenging after the private property with the cabin. Any high-clearance 4WD can make the drive. Fall colors were well past peak. Had not been in years. Noticed several new 'No motor vehicle' signs at the top, to include the last stretch to Sill Mine, and the track to the south that passes two cabins and ends near Josephine Lake. The Motor Vehicle Use Map for this area lists only this route; all the other off-shoot trails in the area are not included. A Forest Service truck made its way up, so they are checking on the area.

Super windy at the top, and definitely felt like more than 650 feet gain. Regardless, fun for the fam (b11, g13, mom, dad, 2 small dogs). Views are amazing.

JKUR running 35’s zero issues. It is narrow in spots but very pretty! Handcart Gulch down into Park County is a bit sketchy as it is very narrow shelf road down from Webster. Sign even says no full size vehicles they mean it!

This is not a trail! It takes you on alpine tundra after the cell towers (about halfway)...very irresponsible.

this is NOT A HIKING TRAIL !!! BUT A MOST SCENIC DRIVE. From GRANT TO GEORGETOWN . there are plenty of trails , camping , 4x4 places along the way . so DON'T LOOK FOR TRAILHEAD IN GRANT OR GEORGETOWN. you'll be looking for a long time. a lot of family friendly areas

Excellent hike this time of year (Aug 9). Took left loop from above Hoosier Pass parking and began steady ascent to 12,000 ft where trail offers three branch options. We took the left route towards North Star mountain. Follow “road” marked “Private” up through switchbacks and scree fields to about 12,700’ where trail narrows and flows up to an alpine meadow. I stopped at 13,307’ due to time constraints, but the summit was only a few hundred feet ahead. Coming back down to the central junction we branched left (north)down a steep narrow dirt path that was washed out in places. No fun down or up. At bottom of the steep section turn right to get back to the Hoosier Pass parking lot. Plenty of potholes holding snow melt to navigate through or around. Completed the hike in under 4 hours. Well wort it.

8/3/19. Road was open and dry. Not as much mud as I had hoped for, but was a fun trail. Went about 5 miles in and turned around. The big water crossing has been redirected under the road. Sad day. I plan on going back to see the Iron fens at some point.

Completed loop 7-23-19. Views and Crystal Lake were beautiful. Not too crowded. Lots of puddles and a few snow fields along the way, mostly on the north side. We did go past Crystal Lake, up and around towards the mining activity. Several boulder fields along the way making it definitely more challenging. Also, one more snow field before we got back to the main trail - it wasn't too difficult as we went across the most narrow portion. One particular boulder field had literally hundreds of columbines. Have never seen so many in once place except one July on the way to Piney River Ranch near Vail. Added about 2 miles and about 300+ more in elevation gain.

Actually Hoosier Pass loop

As of July 7, 2019, the road was gated closed at the private cabin sites. Where the road splits on the map near its end, the gate is 0.8 miles before that. The left road is permanently gated at that point split point, for reference. The right road has many, many obstacles that I doubt will be cleared for vehicles any time soon. There was an avalanche over the winter that pushed a lot of trees and debris over the road. Enough that the FS is going to need to get a day crew and some equipment in. The debris can be scrambled over on foot. The road itself to that point is easy, with minimal spots requiring a passenger car to be a little careful. Any truck or SUV will have zero trouble.

Had perfect weather after heading down from Kenosha and hit the peak overlook. Great hike! Rough, but super doable. If you take you're time there are 2 lakes that await you

Probably a truly lovely hike when it’s warmer. We were up to our knees in snow a couple of times but pushed through because of the views we heard about at the top. Never did make it to the top, snow got to be too hard to pass without snow shoes. Also, trail isn’t marked and begins across the highway from the parking lot, behind a road closed sign. See my pics for that. We kept checking the all trails map against gps to make sure and we were indeed on the trail. We asked everyone we passed if they knew what trail it was and everyone said no. Not sure if AllTrails got bad info, if things changed, or what. But be warned about this one...

Hiked the trail near Georgetown on an 8 hour layover on our vacation. It was cloudy and sleety, but it was the best layover we have ever experienced.

We did two hikes, one close to Georgetown and another one at the end of the trail. Both were great, but we enjoyed more the second one, walking very close to the river.

Great trail, perfect time of year to see aspen leaves change. Only downside is that there are lots of horse droppings on trail.

4 stars because it’s a Jeep road. However, it’s a fun hike and you can branch off to North Star. The cars started to come up at 11:20, just as I was finishing. Lovely views for sure

Great scenic drive to see the fall foliage. The drive is easy and has many beautiful views. Do go slow through parking areas as a lot of hikers and dogs are crossing the road. Fairly popular right now, lots of leaf peepers and parking is limited.

Amazing views of the mountains and the reservoir. The 360 from the top is breath taking.
