The road is currently pretty impassible. I tried to get out there today with my 4WD Wrangler and ended up getting stuck in the deep snow along the sides. You could maybe get out there with a snowmobile or a 4WD that has chains but the snow really makes you fishtail, is slushy and deep in a lot of places, and feels like it's going to throw you off the road. The drive toward Yampa was gorgeous though so I can't wait until summer when the snow is gone to get back out here!

Just finished trail to upper falls. Last bit was steep but trail was well snow packed and hiking shoes is all that’s needed. Its moderate to the lower falls; I would rate this as Hard/Difficult getting to the Upper Falls.

Hiked the lovely snow covered, relatively packed trail in hiking boots past the big falls where there were two ice climbers, through the pines, then aspens, over the rivers wooden bridge and eventually to the smaller falls. Was a nice reward. the views of the valley were awesome. At 10 am we were the only car in the upper lot. lot was full when we returned. moderate rating suits this short trail.

Remote trailhead but well worth it. You can summit Parika peak from. This trail. Amazing views!

Icy in parts. Definitely need yak tracks In parts

I was originaly Struck by Lightning while in the Womb on this Volcano in 1989 in July, 22nd I think?? My father died in the Lookout tower and My uncle Aunt and pregnant mother had to come down a different route which is now private.

However I attempted this trail in Aug 17, My first time back to the valcano, however due to incoming storm I did not go all the way to the top, will attempt again next year.

However this was an amazing trip and very rouged and rough, just like a like it. over the last 15 years or so the road has degraded and is more treacherous then it used to be, so make sure you have a lift, but nothing a jeep cant handle.

I want to note that in various spots we encountered frees bear deposits, so do be warned, if you are taking this in the summer and have your doors off on you jeep, might be a good idea to have a some self defence

Completed this trail over Labor Day weekend. There's a dirt road up to the trailhead that gets a little rough as you climbed. We have a CRV and stopped a little short of the trailhead, although we probably could have kept pushing to the top. The trail begin as a continuation of the dirt road you drive in on. Keep an eye out for the trail that will split off to the right after about a quarter mile or so. The trail winds through open forest and proves a healthy mix of sun and shade. The final hump to the summit offers a series of more obscured trails over varying grades of rock and gravel. Enjoy the lookout station from the top. 360 views abound. Entire journey lasted about 2.5 hours.

It was a beautiful hike., we went to the upper falls. Great views along the trail.

Easy paved stroll down to the waterfall. About a half hour taking it all in, just gorgeous. Bathroom was quite stinky, but welcome after listening to water. I feel we got lucky at scoring a parking spot at the top! Great time!

Great hike. Garmin has it at 10.7 miles. Starting to get a little windy and cool. Make sure you start early because by noon rain clouds and lightning develop. It took us roughly 5 1/2 hours to do the round trip with stops and lunch. It is approximately an hour and a half drive to trail head from Steamboat Springs. Elk hunting season has started so be aware this is a heavily hunted area and you may want to avoid it during rifle season.

Good views. Beautiful up towards Long Lake

I really enjoyed this hike. It was not overly technical and was easy on my sore legs. There were plenty of dogs on the relatively crowded trail. Quite a few places for photo opportunities along the way. I chose to take a dip in the very frigid falls, but was extremely refreshing over a hot LDW.

Pretty trail. We hiked in the rain, but it was still very peaceful and beautiful walking through the changing aspen leaves. The waterfall at the end was satisfying goal.

Hiked this with my small dogs. Beautiful scenery and a nice climb. Really enjoyed it.

Lovely fall leaves on this trail today. The lake was beautiful, would highly recommend checking it out!

Lovely hike. The first bit is easy, downhill to the falls. From there it is uphill. I did this in the Fall- wonderful colors.

My wife and I started this hike at 9:53am on 9/19/17 and we loved it. We are from out of town, and this is our first time in Steamboat. Only a few miles from the condo we are renting. Ranger at the entrance was very helpful. $5 entrance fee and he gave us a map with some recommendations. Small parking lot but quite a few places to park along the road as well.

Hike starts downhill where you see the first falls. Very well constructed bridge to cross and a great spot for photos. Trail continues at a steady incline through well shaded forest and aspen groves for the remainder of the hike. Wish we were here a week later for more leave color change. When you come across the second bridge you'll soon exit the forest for a rocky ledge. Plenty of space to pass others and no fear of falling. It was super windy when we were hiking but we managed to not get blown off. Second falls is pretty cool and you can get right up to it. I'd image it being a nice spot to take a swim on a hot summer day.

I'd say get there early as this is a popular hike. A very nice hike to start our day.

Although the hike isn't as hard as I thought it would be, it is all up hill. An SUV or truck is recommended to drive to the trailhead.

Challenging first half of the hike and the causeway is a bit scary but it's all well worth it!

Parking at the trailhead was challenging. It was very crowded and almost had us leaving before we started. It was Sunday midday so... and they do have a picnic area...The trail to the lower falls was very short and most people stayed in that pretty area. We hiked to the upper falls. The trail was narrow and a bit rocky, and you went steadily up. Signage was poor. The trail was marked Long Lake 5 miles, only talking with people did we know it led to the upper falls. It seemed to end there or I didn't see any markings leading to Long Lake. Nice hike though

Great hike. But very little color change to the Aspens. Wait another week or so for the colors. In the 40s so dress warm. Both upper and lower falls were awesome.

Nice trail ... good workout. For the 2nd year in a row we managed to be on the trail picked for the 100mi marathon run. Lots of nice folks in the run. Wildlife included a nice sage grouse, deer, eagle and hawks. Smoke was clearing, so visibility was greatly improved.

Beautiful trail with many streams and varied terrain. One of the best in the Zirkle Wildernesses

The falls are well worth the uphill hike! Ample shade for warm days.

Great hike. Great view. Great for prepping for narrow bridges, in my case Angels Landing in Zion next week :) I only did thru the causeway and back which was around 6 miles + round trip. No protection from lightening/storms, make sure you weather watch. Relatively easy/moderate hike, until the last 1.8ish miles which is up up up. Lots of sheep on the trail, so if you have dogs, be sure to leash up, the herding dogs are very vocal. More info, this is the best website:
