Really enjoyed this one. Did any easy couple miles in to the bridge just past the barn and back out again earlier this week. Incline at the beginning is totally manageable. Great views and varied landscapes.

Did this trail on Mother’s Day. Easy and manageable with beautiful landscapes. Parallels the creek the whole way. We came a bit too close for comfort with a moose.

Well maintained. Great dog walking with shade and water.

Great trail to take your dogs....beautiful scenery.

Good hike

Great time, still pretty deep snow near the end.

Icy in parts. Definitely need yak tracks In parts

I was originaly Struck by Lightning while in the Womb on this Volcano in 1989 in July, 22nd I think?? My father died in the Lookout tower and My uncle Aunt and pregnant mother had to come down a different route which is now private.

However I attempted this trail in Aug 17, My first time back to the valcano, however due to incoming storm I did not go all the way to the top, will attempt again next year.

However this was an amazing trip and very rouged and rough, just like a like it. over the last 15 years or so the road has degraded and is more treacherous then it used to be, so make sure you have a lift, but nothing a jeep cant handle.

I want to note that in various spots we encountered frees bear deposits, so do be warned, if you are taking this in the summer and have your doors off on you jeep, might be a good idea to have a some self defence

Completed this trail over Labor Day weekend. There's a dirt road up to the trailhead that gets a little rough as you climbed. We have a CRV and stopped a little short of the trailhead, although we probably could have kept pushing to the top. The trail begin as a continuation of the dirt road you drive in on. Keep an eye out for the trail that will split off to the right after about a quarter mile or so. The trail winds through open forest and proves a healthy mix of sun and shade. The final hump to the summit offers a series of more obscured trails over varying grades of rock and gravel. Enjoy the lookout station from the top. 360 views abound. Entire journey lasted about 2.5 hours.

I myself am out if shape, my daughter is 9. We took our time, and enjoyed everything along the way. We went in mid October, the day after some snow flurries. there was just enough snow to keep her going.

Although the hike isn't as hard as I thought it would be, it is all up hill. An SUV or truck is recommended to drive to the trailhead.

After about the first mile and 350' of elevation, the trail flattens out into fields and tall ferns with lots of birch trees. I was amazed at how runable this trek was. we continued on making a loop of 16 miles using Elk Park Trail (downed trees, elevation, the path lass traveled) connecting that to Bear Creek Trail, a two-track road which were runable as well then through the Strawberry Hot Springs then a quick jaunt down the paved Rd back to the Mad Creek trail head. unfortunately AllTrails does not show the Elk Park Trail here because it was an interesting loop! For runability + exploration I found this loop exciting!

Steep and rocky. Beautiful views.

beautiful hike! Beautiful view at the top!

Nice walk. kids liked the barn, playing in stream and the cows on the trail. we did not go all the way to the end. turned back a little after barn.

Firstly, the fact that you can hike to Strawberry Hot Springs is incredible and quite the reward! The trailhead itself is hard to find. Once you park in the lot, walk to the opposite side of the kit from the trailhead sign. Walk along the road for about .5 of a mile until there is an inlet where the trail actually begins. It's about 5 and 1/2 miles round trip. The trail is pretty narrow most of the time right in the forest. It's much better than driving or paying for the hot springs shuttle.

drove to it so cant rank the hike but it was a refreshing swim/soak/stretch.

Was a nice, easy hike. Was a beautiful day to enjoy with our 2 Boxer dogs. And bonus of a leash free lake that they got to enjoy.

Turn-off from 40 is open as of 8/12/17. FS road: recommend high clearance vehicle or 4WD if muddy. Good hike.

awesome view

Awesome hiking. Well marked and beautiful.

Great trail to run, something for everyone. I wouldn't classify this as an easy trail though. It is an easy climb for the first mile which is fireroad, then turns into nice single track with some good climbs. I really enjoyed this trail on my vacation to Steamboat. Even saw a moose in the trail. Shared with Lots of walkers with dogs and a couple mountain bikers.

We started from Dumont lake and it was about 5.5 miles to Fishhook lake. Wild flowers were incredible! After our trip we drove up base camp road and it was pretty gnarly in some spots and some serious mud to get through after two heavy thundershowers passed through, but we made it my subi SUV. Lots of mountain bikers on the trail. Beautiful hike and great for backpacking. You may even meet some folks doing the CDT from Mexico to Canada.

Gentle climb up the to hot springs. The spring was beautiful, expensive but beautiful. The hike was pretty tame, not much to see apart from very long grasses. Following the creek was nice as that gave a slightly open view every now and again
