Great workout, Beautiful Trail

BEYOND beautiful hike! Good parking, challenging workout and jaw dropping views. Would do again in a heartbeat.

Awesome trail. First half mile is a pretty constant climb. Wildflowers everywhere on the way up the first 2 miles. Right at about the 2 mile mark there is a stream crossing. After that there were still a few patches of snow but they are for the most part avoidable. Upon reaching the 3rd mile mark, there are spectacular views looking through Gothic Canyon with the Maroon Peaks across from you. Continuing up the trail was dry for the rest of the way until reaching the chairs overlooking Washington Gulch.

Hiking to Storm Pass via the Mill Castle Trail is otherworldly. The view of the Castles is dauntingly beautiful. This hike in the autumn is pristine though be wary that there is some elevation re-gain on the way back.

Amazing views, great fall color! Didn't hike the whole thing, just wanted an afternoon hike so I went up to the first ridge--where you pop up over the valley you've been hiking in until then.

About half way through this hike, I was thinking about writing a mediocre review. We pressed on and are oh so glad we did. The views at the top are stunning. Would be fabulous in the summer with the wild flowers in bloom. However, the fall colors, brisk air and no traffic on the trail made this hike fantastic.

It's a long drive and u really need a good 4 wheel drive vehicle! We turned back after about an hour of driving....

Nice hike with some stunning views. The drive out to the head trail alone is worth doing!!

Also came across a deer and a few marmots which kept it interesting.

How was it you might ask? It is an amazing day hike for any one. You can hike to a meadow, and turn around or hike till the trail ends. Both choices are perfect for this hike, and no matter your means of transportation you won't miss the view.

Mill Castle is a steep trail, I suggest going in from the south, and up to Storm Pass. The Views from Storm Pass are excellent, North and South. The Northern end of the trail was full of cattle grazing, with a lot of manure to avoid at lower elevations. We saw a herd of 100+ elk just south/west of Storm Pass, and several mule deer.

The beginning of this trail to the overlook which is 1.33 miles is absolutely stunning. There are wonderful vistas of Washington Gulch valley, Baldy Peak, Gothic Mountain, and the Gothic Valley. Wildflowers are beautiful in late July. It is really an easy ascent to the viewpoint but the high elevation makes the hike moderate. If you hike all the way through, you will be hiking through some spruce forest with limited views. The last mile of the trail is very steep downhill but has spectacular views of the gothic valley. This part of the trail passes through 4 foot tall wildflowers. Wonderful!
