Tough Trail if you do the entire loop but worth the view

Busy day on the trail. Beautiful scenery however. Run the trail clockwise from the lot if you want a ton of vert right away. It’s about 600ft gain. Run it counterclockwise if you want a slow steady incline most of the way. There was a massive amount of mountain bikers when I was there with very little trail etiquette. I imagine this place is peaceful in the early morning hours and during the week.

Difficult, but a fun hike! I’m glad the previous reviewer suggested starting on the meadow side (which is Sleepy’s Trail), since pretty much everyone else started on the other end of the loop and I was by myself for quite a bit. Just did the loop and didn’t make it up to the peak, but will try next time!

This is a great hike both in beauty and a workout. I went today and RT was 2 hour 57 min of movement. (I don't count the lunch/time spent at the summit.) Wildflowers are stunning right now and around the many switchbacks you'll find spectaculars view of the mountains! This is one of my favorite hikes! I would not rate this as 'easy' however, more like 'moderate' depending on where you are on the trail. Like and easier black diamond on the slopes is how I describe it. It climbs about 2000' in elevation to around 9700 at the top so if altitude bothers you on a 14'er this is a good one to do. Part shade and sun. Meadow View portion (1 mi starting from Stagecoach TH) is easy. Once you take a left onto Bergen Peak Trail (2.7 mi) is begins to climb at a steady pace. No steps and some flatter sections but it gets the heart rate up. Then left another mile up to the summit is a climb as well. Not outrageous but not 'easy' in my opinion. Worth every grunt and groan though! Views of Bergen Peak, Mount Evans and Pikes Peak. Check it out! Love it.

Very good hike. Make sure to do the meadow side of the hike first (head toward the main road). This saves the best part of the hike, in the trees / shade, for last.. also, there are a handful of trails to choose from as you progress. Pay attention to your trail map after these intersections as it’s very easy to take the wrong turn (as we did on our hike). Great area, great views, great hike.

Fairly exposed for the first 2 miles, so you’ll want to get an early start because it can get HOT. Some great little vistas scattered along the route which make for excellent snack/water stops. Trail is simple and well-maintained, very minimal stair-stepping and fairly low grade so I’d call this an easy trail but with the length consideration you should estimate it as moderately challenging. Reminds me of Evergreen Peak trail but quite a bit longer.

Very nice strenuous hike within a 45 minute drive from downtown Denver. Will be back again!!

We went on a Wednesday and started hiking around noon. Plenty of parking and very few people on the trail. The meadow at the beginning was probably the best part. My phone logged 10.5 miles going to the top and back.

Easy trail with good views

be sure to look at other reviews for the same Trail, but listed as "hard". I would say this is somewhere between moderate and hard, and I'm not in the best of shape. I'm a bit older and still getting used to the altitude, so it took me 3 hours up in 2 hours down, and I was definitely ready to lay flat by the time I was done. Great views and well worth it, I would do it again

I think this is somewhere between moderate and hard. I'm not in great shape and still adjusting to the altitude. I had to stop several times to catch my breath and let my legs rest. for Young Folks who are active in the mountains, moderate is probably accurate. For older folks who may not get out quite as much it may border on hard

so for all those slightly older folks who may not be in Peak shape, this is good trail, somewhere between moderate and difficult. I am still acclimating to the altitude and had to stop several times and my legs were sore during one long uphill pull. I was ready to be done at the end of 10 Mi even though the last half was mostly downhill. in my modest level of conditioning it took me 3 hours to the top and two hours down, those folks doing it in 4 hours are in much better shape. And then there are those who even run it and I am still amazed.

This is a great trail. I went on a Saturday 5/12/18 and got there at 9am it wasn't too busy and only crossed paths with people a few times.
The trail was nice and I look forward to running it next time. It offers amazing views at multiple points, and the meadow was amazing to look at while finishing the hike.
Also passed people walking donkey's which was a bonus.

Great hike. Wouldn’t consider it hard...more moderate. Started at Stagecoach...start to finish time was about 5.5 hrs, but we took our time eating lunch and taking pics at the top.

Did a quick little out-and-back trail on the Meadow trail because I didn't feel like I would have time to summit Bergen Peak. Very serene walk through the trees. Lots of mountain bikers but most of them were very polite and communicative (plus, I never have a problem ducking out of the way for people), one of them even told me to have a great hike. Looking forward to coming back and summiting.

Decent hike on a nice sunny day. Nice and easy, minimal incline. Last mile or so of the hike is along the highway so does get noise pollution. Looks like a great mountain bike trail.

Did this today, 5/13. Nice trail, surprisingly dry. No views, due to mist.

Beautiful bike or hiking trail! Elk herds can be seen if you’re lucky!

the evelation gain was only 2,000 feet from the lower meadow, but I wandered around until I hit the "too long trail" and peaked. I've hiked all the other Elk Meadow trails and this was , by far, my favorite, however, in the future I'll start from the upper Stagecoach trailhead. when I was back to my car I had hiked 8 miles and felt good. The elevation gain is 700 feet less than bierstadt, but overall a good test of endurance to prep for the easiest 14'er. Outstanding hike!

Really enjoyed the hike through the trees alongside the mountain. The contrast between the meadow and the mountain kept the hike interesting. Meadow part is busy but once you turn off to go up into the mountain side it’s teeters off in traffic. Traffic will go both ways and a great trail for mountain bikes so make sure you’re aware!

Great, short hike close to Denver. Elevation at the beginning and then it eases of. Keep an eye out for mountain bikes.

I started from the Stagecoach Drive trailhead. Bluebird day, with an amazing view at the summit! The mile stretch leading into Bergen Peak Wildlife Area is a steep climb, on the way up. But the view is worth it. I'll defintely do this hike again!

Pretty Hike. Brought my fiance, who is finally hiking into hiking with me. I didn't love the part of the trail next to the highway, but it turns inwards towards the mountain pretty quick. The girl couldn't let me go to the top, so I'll come back and bag that another day. Lots os people, but good hike. The dog absolutely love it, but then, she's no picky.

Fun hike, beautiful day for it, very little ice/snow so no spikes/trax necessary. Rocky hike great workout

Great hike with gradual ascend. Micro-spikes were needed close to the peak.

Pretty solid hike with steady climb throughout - not bad elevation (just shy of 10k feet) for how close it is to the city. It was a bit slick towards the top in shaded areas, so yaktrax or micro spikes would be recommended. Definitely windy!

This hike was a long one but a good one! All different terrain, could’ve benefited from spikes worn if you take the Bergen peak trail to the top. Lots of ice. We took too long trail on the way back to make it into a loop and it was much more dry! The views were beautiful at the top and made it a great stop for lunch!

3/24/18 — 3.5 stars. No incredible views or big terrain, but it was a great 4.2 mile walk with the dog. Followed this trail map exactly, but opted to walk the road side first so the rest of the hike would be quiet. Almost everyone went the other way from the start. I was impressed with the mix of terrain. I felt like we hiked through three different seasons. No hiking boots required. There was a total of maybe 100’ of snow/slush on the backside, but it was easy to walk around it. I’ll be back.

Nice hike with expansive views to the south. The change of terrain along the way makes it an interesting half day outing, passing through the meadow, forest and rockier summit.
