A fantastic hike that offers more than 2000 feet in elevation gain. It does start off brutal with switchbacks and false summits, but the view on the summit and the latter half of the trail is spectacular. You get to see Denver, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Mount Evans (which just looks huge and awe inspiring from the trail). It is definitely a workout, 10 miles there-and-back and the incline is gradual throughout your whole hike. But it is worth the trip, and truly feels like a mountain hike.

It's a nice effortless walk. I collect rocks from all my hikes and this place had a lot of white stones, clear crystals, and white mica. I went in the afternoon and it wasn't very crowded. There's enough trails and length that you passed by a few people but that's about it. The trails next to highway, you get a little more noise, but it's not unbearable. Maybe I think it's not bad though because I live in Cherry Creek which has waaaay more noise. Oh! And it's gives you a pretty decent view of the forest.

Very quiet and easy walk with my dog. We pretty much stayed on the the Elk Meadow Trail. Will be back!

Good workout- the grade is steady. Great view at the top.
Too bad that I could hear the highway noise most of the 4 hours on the trail. Watch out for mountain bikers.

We recommend heading up the steep part first, then doubling back after halfway so you don’t have to walk along the highway at the end.
