Road bike is pushing it, hybrid or mountain bike better suited. Thick loose gravel in parts. Nice ride overall with beautiful scenery. Saw a few snakes on the trail but they were small, no need to let that scare you off.

great for training

I started at Palmer Lake this morning at 7:30am going South stopped at Ice Lake at the Air Force Academy ate my PB & J sandwich while overlooking the Lake (so serine) mounted my bike and continued South to my Rondevu point Trader Joe’s parking lot where my wife scooped me up . It was approximately 20 miles it took 2 1/2 hours taking my time.. no problem whatsoever traverse then on to the Air Force Base it is permissible as long as you’re not carrying weapons and stay on the trail... this trailer is very nice for runners individuals like myself just getting some miles in on my bicycle.. I would most definitely do it again ...

We started our bike ride from old town monument to Palmer lake. It’s a gravel rode surrounded by beautiful scenery. Easy ride. Would have given it 5 starts if there was more shady parts. It was a pretty hot day. Will definitely do it again.

Great trail run! Easy to get the mileage in. (In the spring & summer) Good access to restrooms and water.

Good for family bike ride but boring for hiking. Lots of highway noise.

Well, what a disappointment, I’ve been wandering around this neighborhood for a few minutes trying to find a trail entrance only to realize it’s not a trail it’s a Street in the city. It is a nice neighborhood, but it certainly not anything like a trail. Don’t waste your time.

Great trail to get some miles in. Easy access and flat. Intermittent wooded areas for summer shade, but take a hat as there are long stretches with no cover.

I'm a civilian and so the portion of the trail I was able to ride was not that exciting. I parked just before the North gate to the right (free/open parking) and rode North (I tried South but several signs indicate that's portion of the trail is not longer opened to the public). The trail is easy, wide, no shade, no trees and quite sandy. Overall didn't think it was that fun for biking or hiking. Compared to everything else in the area (and OMG there is so much more) I wouldn't go back there.

It's a good trail for locals who just want to get out and hick and see some good sights.

started at Woodmen, Edmonton trail head, hiked to ice lake... beautiful!

This is just a road through a neighborhood not a trail. Although it is a pretty neighborhood if your looking for a hike in the woods this isn't for you.

We tried the trail today from Woodman north, but stopped at the entrance to the Air Force Academy. The gate was locked, and the sign said enter only if you have permission of the "installation commander" so we rode back to Woodman, and went around the AFA in the car, and started again (going north) from the "North Gate" parking lot, which is just outside of the AFA security gate. Then, it was a fantastic ride on smooth crushed gravel all the way to Palmer Lake (about 8 miles). Great views, not crowed, and a great trail for distance training. I'd like to understand how and who can traverse the AFA property though. It would be nice to start in downtown Colorado Springs and ride continuously up to Palmer Lake without blatantly trespassing on a military base.

Took it last year shortly after getting stationed at USAFA. It follows the creek but not very close. Was ok for a first hike in the area, but probably wouldn't walk it again - would be better on a bike.

I ride this as part of the greater Santa Fe Trail rides. It is good for doing mileage rides. Easy doubletrack suitable for novices and families.

I ran on this trail when I was training for my half marathon, late last year. I would come here when I had greater distances to run as it runs very far north and south. I really like the trail. it's pretty flat for the most part with only a few, little moundy hills. I haven't been here since December, but at that time I was ok for civilians to enter the AFA part of the trail. This is not allowed, for now, since the nation's security level has been raised to "elevated.

Not open to the public.

I tried this trail with my wife but it's only accessible to Air Force cadets.

Nice training trail for putting in miles in preparation for events like the Elephant Rock race, or just simply for getting in a nice workout. Not exactly a challenging trail - more like a dirt-covered sidewalk. In fact, if you look up the history, you'll find this is a former railroad bed that the rails and ties have been removed long ago. But if putting in some miles is your goal, the trail is nice for that.

Any portion of the Sante Fe Trail is good. Its great for bikes, running or walking. The trail is well maintained and and good work out, especially if you're heading North (all up hill.)

Great path for walking/jogging/biking, especially with kids. Wide, flat, clear path. The Santa Fe trail is on the top of my younger kids list!

I rode this trail on a beautiful fall day, which contributed to the large number of people on the trail. My route was north from Colorado Springs to Monument and back. North bound is a continuous uphill grade, so the return trip was a very easy ride. The trail was in good shape despite recent heavy rains.
