Did clockwise as well. Beautiful day and one of my favorite summits in Boulder. Descent is tough on old knees.

Go clockwise to save your knees. If it's super hot start on Saddle for more shade

Beautiful and challenging hike. I would definitely recommend doing this clockwise. There's a lot of steep trail and some rock scrambling on the way up that i would not enjoy descending. The Canyon Trail is a nice relief after the tough climb up. Beautiful views all along the way.

If you’re hiking during a summer weekend, I would recommend getting there early (before 7:30am). We arrived at 7:45am and got one of the last street parking spots near the entrance. I also recommend bringing some good hiking shoes - I wore tennis shoes and rolled my ankles a few times during the rocky portions of the trails. The hike took about 3 hours. We noticed that on our way back down, the trail was becoming very congested with other hikers, and we were happy that we got there early!

Finally got a cooler morning here to do this hike. I went clockwise going up E.M. Greenman to the summit and down Ranger. Definitely harder going up, but saves your knees on the way down. I started at Chautauqua as the trail map shows and it took me 3.5 hours.

One of my favorite hikes in town! Strenuous and rewarding hike with nice views of the back range and a nice place to chill out for a few minutes at the top to celebrate your hike. We usually ascend starting with Saddle Rock and take Ranger/ Gregory Canyon for the descent. Don't miss the Ranger trail turn. You could end up a bit lost if you miss the trail.

Awesome trail. Hiked once in snow. It took about 8 hours. In the summer it’s only about 3 hours. All the way shaded.

So this is an extremely hard hike especially if you are starting up the amphitheater trail. It is about to a 2 and a 1/2 miles of steap steap incline of rock hiking to the summit. Also fair warning if you are attempting to go this direction as well it is not very clear in trail markings so I recommend downloading some kind of trail map so that you have it handy to keep you on the trail. If you decide to take the loop from the Gregory Canyon trail this trail is a gradual incline to the summit with some rocky places on the trail. Its a little bit longer route but you'll have a better chance of not having altitude problems. Oh and I consider myself an average hiker and it took me about 4 hours for the entire Green Mountain loop hike! I hope this was helpful!!

Definitely a great workout. Like doing the stair master for 3-4 miles. Good news is that it’s mostly in the shade. Lost the trail and ended up coming down on another.

This trail is HARD. It’s harder than any other trail I’ve done in Boulder - Royal Arch included. The elevation is no joke. Straight uphill the first 4 miles, not even any flat sections. I do not recommend this as a hike for anyone but Colorado Natives or other high elevation places because elevation sickness could be a factor. Bring lots of water, snacks, and electrolyte supplements and you’ll get this trail done!

Hard trail to follow. Good training hike— not too many people once I got up there a little bit (hiked on a Monday). If the Chainsmokers “Closer” wasn’t stuck in my head the whole time, I may have had a better experience ;)

Fun trail but poorly marked. Study the trail a little before starting unless you don’t mind a couple extra credit detours :)

Went clockwise, which is a beast on the way up, and a knee-saver on the way down. Nice payoff on a clear day, and good training for 14ers, as others have said. You can park near Chautauqua if you don't get in the small lot - was easy even for a Sunday morning.

Enjoyable weather and great company. Had to stop a few times to catch my breath on amphitheater pass with all the stairs, but the views were worth it!

Awesome, difficult hike. Not empty but not too crowded. Loved the views and changing scenery. Check out my video of my hike - https://youtu.be/xu_9Y_PqJqI

Gregory Canyon has alpine flowers and small cacti, awesome. Then intermediate/hard hike to the summit, beautiful up top.

Definitely a tough hike! Took the north side down and it was soooo nice. One of those big wide trails where you can just cruise. Plus the canyon is full of water right now and the wildflowers are blooming! Very pleasant.

This was a great hike to tackle on a Sunday. Recommend getting there around 9 AM if you want to find a spot in the parking lot – I got there around 9:30 and was able to park on a side street. Make sure you wear durable shoes as sometimes the trail can be muddy due to recent rain. Check your weather app as well, as I endured a hailstorm today… I definitely recommend going counterclockwise if you would like a more relaxed ascent, keeping in mind the descent will be steep! Strava told me the mileage was closer to 7 miles – at a moderate pace it took me about four hours with breaks.

Super fun hike, not too difficult with some steep sections, some rolling dirt paths, and nice views. Cool picnic area at one point for a nice break. The top had a lot of people but the trail wasn’t too crowded. some folks saw a bear cub on our way up.

good workout, the trail itself is pretty but was way too busy with loud people yelling or playing music on a speaker (holiday wknd so was probably a bad idea on my part to go) except for a few stretches it was peaceful. Would be a lot more enjoyable if there were less people. Also, it was definitely more than 5.7 miles, at least 6.25.

Hiked most recently on 5/18. Great hike, varying scenery and well maintained. Parking can be tough, but hike is worth it. Good 14er warm up.
