If you are looking for a challenge this trail is it. Long uphill stretches and very rewarding descent. Great views also. Love this one.

8/25- the trail got hot in a hurry and almost all the reviews we read there was shade but we had no idea it was as far in as it was. It was too hot for our dogs, a lot of rocks which got hot. You won’t see shade on this trail until well after 2 miles in. Be prepared. Will do it again when it’s cooler.

The kids loved this hike, and what a treat to take a dip in the lake! Monday morning and the trail was empty. Saw a deer, lots of coyote scat, and many dragon flies. It’s pretty sunny with little opportunities for shade, so pack the sunscreen and water! The campground by the lake was unfortunately a mess, the previous campers did not do their part in keeping it clean, it’s too bad!

NIce hike. no shade. Have done this one multiple times with my kids and dogs. Tend to see a lot of bikers on this trail.

Nice trail. Tends to be a lot of bikers out on this one and occasionally horses. Pretty easy. Can get off at one point to get over to the lake if you wanted to wade of swim. Great for all levels and ages of hikers

Not sure why this marked as an easy hike. It is uphill all the way so I’d put it in the range of a moderate hike (it’s ranked as expert for mountain bikers and equestrians). Lots of mountain bikers to dodge and no cover for the majority of the hike. I’m not sure if the fire in 2012 opened this area up or if it’s truly a grassland to shrubland area before the forest? Bring extra water on a hot day, you’ll need it. Great views from the trail and wildflowers made it worth it. The little spur to the waterfall area from the parking lot is a nice area to cool down in. May be a better hike in cooler weather or not on a June weekend.

I really enjoyed this quick trail! My dog and I had a great time. Once you get into the trees, every corner is like looking at a magical path in a fairytale forest. I kept waiting for fairies to pop out. It’s a little late in the season for unicorns, though.

Tip: If you show up and the ranger station is closed, be sure to bring exact change. (1 car is $7)

Nice trail. Half open space, half trees. Not too bad of a climb at the rock. Great views of Fort Collins and Horsetooth Reservoir.

Didn’t run into many people, just a few runners, bikers, and 2 horses/riders. Quiet, great views. Brought my dogs, will definitely be back!

on Timber Trail

Used part of Timber Trail as first leg of nice 4.6 mile loop. Turned left on Kimmons, right on West Valley, quick left onto Wells Gulch which connected to East Valley Trail back to Timber parking lot. Timber Trail section is not steep, but almost every step is uphill... the rest of the hike was easy.

Easy but beautiful! Not a lot of shade. Can access the reservoir from part of the East trail.

Great trail, but wouldn’t classify as easy. (Steep switchbacks with loose rocks.) Wonderful views of Horsetooth Resevoir.

Great hike and a place to really sit and think

Extremely varied, averaging toward moderate. A bit scary at times if you're afraid of heights or get vertigo but completely worth it. Gorgeous flora and breathtaking views. A new favorite in Lory.

Mighty Mill! This trail is a challenge, whether you're running up it or running down it. Despite it's difficulty, it is a very beautiful trail.

The best trail in the park, the views are amazing!

Very nice and not crowded at all today.

Slick in some of the steeper areas and far too heavily traveled considering a lot of it is a one-track. The views are amazing, though.

It was a fine trail for any easy warmup.

The views of the reservoir are wonderful. pretty open trail and as long as you're keeping a steady pace, it's not that exhausting.

This is a generally quiet trail, mostly used by mountain bikers. It's easy to access and has great views of Horsetooth Reservoir.

Lory State Park is lovely, the reason I'm giving this particular trail 3 stars is because the first two miles are very exposed in fields of desert-like grasses. If you do this on a hot day be prepared... Once you get into the trees this is a great little trail. I looped it with kimmons and Howard on the way back and it took me a little over 3 hours (taking my time).

Date: 23 April 2016
Price: $7.00 Park Day Pass
Traffic: Moderate to Heavy, Hikers and Bikers
Conditions: Started clear and sunny with dry trail, ended with overcast and scattered sprinkles.

Pros:
It is what I would refer to as a nice leisurely stroll. The scenery is beautiful and there are scattered spots to relax and soak in the gorgeous Colorado scenery.

Cons:
It is busy with bikers and other hikers. That is expected, however the trail at most points can only accommodate I person wide.

Overall, go out, have fun, and enjoy the scenery.

This is a fun trail, lots of changing scenery along the way. You start of with a steady, winding climb for about the first half hour. You will level out before a downward accent to a small bride about 2.5 miles in. You then hit the most challenging part of the hike, a series of about 12 switchbacks gaining elevation on each. After this it's a short hike to the road that takes you to Arthur's Rock. Great views of the reservoir along the first part of the trail. Occasional bikers to deal with, but not bad.

Good beginner mountain biking trail or running trail. I wouldn't choose this one just for hiking. Not overly technical and lots of exposure.

Great beginner trail. Short but definitely got a workout. My 8 yr old did it and even with his bike that has no gears. The east valley trail will lead you to a cove on horestooth reservoir or you can take it to arthur's rock! My husband thought it was too easy but if you've never done mountain biking and aren't used to single tracks i think this is perfect to start out on.

This is an ok trail lots of sequadas and it felt like more of a desert hike than a Colorado hike.
