From the trailhead, we took the loop southeast toward the reservoir for a shorter hike. My seventy-three-year-old mother joined us. She’s used to mall walking and this hike was not difficult for her. There were a few steps where I held her hand, but she did great! A small bit of this trail is a dirt road, which I didn’t love, but once you see the reservoir, all is forgotten. The water was down quite a bit, but it did not take away from the splendor. We met a few hikers and bicyclists on the way in and everyone was so amicable. I would definitely hike this trail again and plan to next summer with my four children in tow.
