Great easy trail for a family of varied abilities. Very easy, but not boring. Great views the entire time.

Lots of lovely wildflowers and the trail all to ourselves---how could we be so lucky?!?!

Easy enough, even for a Maryland couple not accustomed to this altitude. Went on a Monday afternoon and practically had this beautiful, well maintained trail to ourselves. While taking in the view of the fast-flowing North Boulder Creek (a few steps down from the Bluebird Loop), a hummingbird stopped by and briefly checked us out before returning to its bug catching.

Close to 6 mi RT to do the mine and homestead loop. Lots of wildflowers, interesting history. Easy terrain without much gain so if you're looking for a more intense workout this is not for you. No dogs or bikes allowed. Hikers and horses only.

This trail is beautiful with a good mix of sun and shade. I went on Wednesday, got there around 9am and there were a few cars, but the lot was not full even when I left at 11:30. I am not in the best of shape and was able to finish it without being too tired. I recommend doing the Bluebird Mine spur. The old buildings were interesting. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies.

Did snowshoe on Feb 8, 2019. Weather was sunny, temps in 20-30 degree range and light winds. Delonde Trail snow was packed down, icy in spots, and some bare areas. Bluebird Loop had more snow. Trail is basically level with some ups and downs and easy to hike. Snow was deeper at Bluebird Mine, especially going up to the water diversion dam. Spikes could have worked for the most part. Overall, a scenic and enjoyable trek. Covered about 5 miles.

Arrived this morning to brisk winds, light flurries, and a snow packed trail. Snowshoes or skis recommended; microspikes could work, but there are areas where you will posthole. This trail offers forested trails and expansive vistas.

Beautiful, easy trail. Came after a light snow, so there was a decent amount of snow on the ground. Snow was mostly packed, so snowshoes weren’t necessary, however there were a fair amount of xc skiers out. A homestead and an optional short hike to an old mine added a bit of history and interest. Will definitely come back - great for all levels.

hiked this trail in mid December. there was a snow storm during the hike, and the trail was covered by about 4 inches of snow, but we still had a blast and loved the trail.

This trail is very approachable for beginners or those with children. There is very little elevation gain, and the majority of the path is either flat gravel or slightly rocky in spots with the occasional root to step over. We loved all of the placards along the way that tell the history of each site (including a mining camp, a homestead farmhouse, and some Switzerland Trail railroad history). It felt very much like we were in an outdoor museum with a variety of "exhibits" amidst the natural beauty of the surrounding woods and meadows. Highly recommended!

Great trail, good for trail running, no mountain bikers to have to jump off the trail for!! The DeLong Homestead and Bluebird Mine sites are an added bonus!

Easy rehab hike. Haven’t checked this trail out til today. It was closed during the calving season and so I did Mud Lake. No snow/mud. One short icy section. Super late fall hike. In the 50s and was pleased to find that the majority of the hike was protected from the wind which was heard gusting in the vales. Only had one glimpse of the Back Range and that was of Old Baldy. Better views on the Mud Lake hike. The ruins of the Bluebird Mine and the DeLonde Homestead were quite interesting. Managed to stretch it to 5.8mi.

Easy hike with small children. A little snow and mud, but avoidable. Short drive to the Carousel of Happinesses after.

Nice little trail. Easy hike with a mine and artist in residence.

Just a fun easy look that takes you thought a part meadow part wooded hike. a good starter if your trying to adjust to altitude.

This scenic little loop was perfect for a quick family outing and its proximity to Nederland made it easy to refuel afterwards. There was ample parking at the trailhead when we arrived around noon, but the trail was still fairly busy. The side trail to the mine is well worth the short detour, as there are a few structures still standing and several interpretive displays.

Easy trail with beautiful views. Meadows are filled with wild flowers right now. Has offshoots from the main trail to an old mine and a large homestead with interpretative signs. Perfect trail for families with small children or those not used to the altitude.

Great easy day hike. I like that there are no dogs allowed since people never seem to pick up after them or they leave the plastic crap bags everywhere. (Love dogs, not their inconsiderate owners). There are lots of interesting sights as well with the old mine and the house and barn. Don't like that there are so many horses allowed since they chew up and stink up the trail. One of the few County owned trails that you won't see bikes on, which is awesome. Most other county trails have been given over to mountain bikes, which makes it less than fun for those of us who just like to be in the woods and walk. Nice family hike. Also great for snowshoeing in winter.

really bummed there are no dogs allowed. it's beautiful, shady and sunny, interesting sights and wildflowers. Roaring river and meadows. but there is a LOT of horse excrement all over the trail and parts do smell like a barn as a result. They are also VERY strict about park boundaries and staying on trail. it's like the retirement community of trails. there are a lot of tables but no nearby trash bins so not a great picnic spot either. it really is beautiful though.

Flat, variety of terrain and little exploratory stops at mining camp and homestead. Good for visitors who want a taste of Colorado outdoors but don't want to strain.

This is a great easy hike. Best in summer as it gets muddy. This is one that even little kids can do and they will love. Goes by an old homestead and also brings you into the woods. It has something everyone will love.

Trail was beautiful. Not too difficult. Being from the Chicagoland area the elevation change of Colorado has proven to be a little rough but this trail was perfect! Trail very well marked, homestead to see, lake, and if you want you can hike a loop (always my favorite). There's two roads to get there. I recommend NOT taking Caribou Road...it's NOT a road its a one lane steep mud trail that follows a steep drop off- it was a little scary but my husband loved it. The main road is also mud but easy to drive. LAST TIP: trail is closed April-June for deer mating season.

Great trail for a day hike! Not strenuous; we are coming from sea level so it was a good starter hike and probably would be for others recently from sea level or not in great shape (or both). Pretty vistas throughout; the old homestead and barn are beautiful and picturesque. Still has some significant snowpack in the first 1/2 mile right now. Quiet; only saw two other parties while out today.
