Hiked this trail twice before my first 14er, this was nothing compared to quandary peak in Breckinridge. I did hike both with no spikes and people with spikes fell many many times! I like this trail in the early morning not so populated.

Trail is mostly dry, but likely won’t be tomorrow. Great hike with lovely views. Final climb up to the cave is not for the faint of heart. Wish I had brought a climbing rope to make the descent easier.

Dry, well maintained gravel path. Not very crowded when I went around lunchtime.

Beautiful and challenging hike. After hitting the saddle between south boulder and bear peak, it was pretty icy up to the peak. I was fine just with hiking boots, but would have felt better with micro spikes.

Hard but well worth it in the end.

Ended up going to the ridge and it’s beautiful! Quite a hike straight up but worth it

Very nice trail. Unlike this map, we started from Boulder Canyon Drive. There was maybe two cars there. Uphill all the way. Many other trails connect to this when you get to Realization Point, which is much more crowded. From there we took Ute trail towards Flagstaff Mountain. Beautiful scenery all the way. One other thing they don't mention is this is a dog friendly trail.

Lots of beautiful, scenic views along this hike. However, way finding closer to the cave was sometimes difficult and I lost the trail a couple times both in and out. There were some muddy spots, but nothing not manageable with hiking boots. The most surprising part to me was the final climb at the end. As someone without any climbing or bouldering experience, I ultimately found it too difficult and had to turn around. It may have been that there was just enough wetness on the rocks from melted snow to keep me from gripping. However I definitely found it harder than hikes that have mentioned similar scrambles/climbing in descriptions. I likely will try again when things have dried out more.

Monica Gray, the cave itself is a permanent closure to reduce human contamination that can cause white-nose syndrome in bats. The seasonal closure mentioned here refers to the greater perimeter closure or buffer zone closure that includes rock climbing routes April 1st through October 1st. The cave will never be open. Too bad the description here isn't more clear about that.

We had a good time hiking the trail BUT I was very disappointed that the gate was locked to the cave since it’s past October 1st. The scramble/ rocks up to the cave was difficult, a couple of areas hard to get a foot hold.

I recommend microspikes for safety. Took me half the time coming down from south boulder since it’s very icy at the top. Perfect condition otherwise

Spikes needed. Poles are great to have to. Icy. Beautiful challenging hike. Happy winter hiking!

Looked cool but trail was too muddy to walk on. Did some other hikes the same day that weren’t muddy, so I’m guessing this doesn’t get a lot of sun (in November). Will try again in the summer.

Easy walk to summit from parking area. Amazing views of Boulder and mountain range.
