A little difficult for an easy trail but well worth it.

Beautiful hike today on 4/19. Packed snow and ice almost completely covering entire trail up to the end of the trail. Definitely helped to use my yak tracks. I didn’t slip at all or have any difficulty while using them (besides the altitude and the entirely uphill trail-lol). Not too much of an elevation gain but the altitude definitely makes it more challenging. I was truly surprised by how many other people were on the trail and the fact that 95% of those people were very ill prepared for hiking. I’m here were people in shorts and almost everyone else was wearing either tennis shoes or casual shoes. No wonder I saw so many people falling. Please be prepared for the ice/snow and weather

Beautiful snow covered trail just don't venture off snow is about 3-4 feet deep. hiked it today in just normal hiking boots.

Went today, it was a wonderful hike. In the icy spots just stay on the snow along the edges.

Nice to go in April when it’s much less crowded.

Beautiful hike this morning, we had the top all to ourselves. Looking forward to coming back and experiencing it in warm weather.

Beautiful view of the glacier, a bit windy and cold so come prepared!

Snowshoes were needed for this hike. Some spots had avalanche risk. It was a beautiful hike. Also a great place for backcountry skiing.

Bring microspikes in winter months.

Went up when it was frozen over with some friends. It's tough getting up and back down with all the snow, but so worth it. Some people hike up and sled / snowboard down. You get to walk around on a big frozen lake once you make it all the way. Really awesome.

Used snowshoes on a well-packed trail to Naylor Lake. The trail to Silver Dollar is rocky and right near avalanche possibilities (that was our opinion, however, the amount of snow up on the mountains is not significant due to high winds.) It's a short hike up but with the help of alltrails.com, we were able to trek in the deep stuff off trail on the way down. We just had fun and meandered in the 3 ft. of snow off-trail. Thanks AllTrails! We didn't stray too far from the trail either but you don't want to get lost out there!

Fun day hike! Only downside would be the amount of dog poop everywhere.

Very easy, beautiful hike. If you’re looking for something non strenuous and short this is a good one. Fun to sled down the hill in the winter too!

We hiked this on Sunday afternoon and it was windy, cold, and awesome. Be advised that there is . $5 fee to park in the nearby lots as they are on private land. Cash and checks are the only form of payment accepted. There are two lots, on one to the north and one to the south of the trail head. It's a quick walk to the top, just keep to the main trail and avoid what look to be off road vehicle trails that veer off to the right. I think there are two on the way up. The top was WINDY. I'm guessing around 50mph gusts and a steady wind of about 30mph. The kind of wind you can lean into and it will keep you upright. The temp was around 9 degrees and with the those kind of winds we didn't stay up too long- we didn't have the gear necessary to hang out in conditions like that. But it was beautiful up there. We shall definitely return for more exploration!

It’s great if you’re looking for a relatively easy trail with great views. The trail was a little packed down for snowshoes, but slick enough that you’d be better off with a bit of extra traction. Just be prepared for a lot of wind at the lake.

Hiked in snowshoes. Not heavily traveled today. Nice out and back to view the frozen lake. Highly recommend the trail.

Snowshoed to the lake today and part way up to glacier. Lots of snow still, very windy. Beautiful views! Everyone says it's easy but felt it a bit challenging for us Minnesotans (but the cold didn't bother us), maybe since we are still adjusting to elevation. It was a steady climb to the lake and steeper to the glacier. Want to make a trip back in Spring or Summer. Ran into several people even on a Thursday afternoon.

Traction would have been nice, but not necessary. A go to when you only have an hour of free time to get in a good view.

Road is clear until the next snow, never even considered using 4WD. Brought up 8 people and a bunch of sleds, and had a blast! Ended up sledding down the glacier onto the frozen lake, sleds are a must here if you're up for the adventure!

Great short hike. Plenty of amazing views. Bring a lunch and stay awhile, highly recommend for kids and dogs.

Hello. We are thinking about doing this hike tomorrow (Jan 27). Does anyone know if we will need snow shoes? TIA!

Road was snowpacked from the start. If you do not have awd/4wd AND winter tires do not go. You will most likely crash, get stuck and put others in danger.

Beautiful hike! Bring a sled if you want to do some sledding!

Hiked on 1/18. Guanella pass rd closed at silver lake trailhead. Nice uphill all the way to the lakes- bring your skis or a sled to ride the all the way back down to the parking lot!!

If I wanted to Do this Hike THIS weekend (Jan 19) Around 10:30am, wondering if I'd need snowshoes. Has anyone hiked it in the past couple of days?
Thanks!

One of the most beautiful sights these eyes have ever seen.

I tried to hike it two days ago and we were not able to due to the high winds. So yesterday we tried again and the weather was PERFECT. I was speechless when we got to the frozen lake. The views are spectacular. I recommend to keep climbing. We almost got to the top and it was unbelievable. Snowshoes were not needed but do bring them if you want to climb to the top. Parking was $7 cash only. It’s a little hard at the beggining because you walk incline for the fisrt mile and a half, but is totally worth it. Im so happy we tried going again, dont miss it!

Road to the trail is impassable for two wheel drive vehicles ~2 miles from the trailhead. Will try again in the spring!

Caught the sunrise here on New Years day! Very windy! Quick incline, was a little difficult at 6:45am. But worth the views. It was about 15 degrees when we were there and probably 45mph winds. I’d def recommend this spot. But trail was hard to find... snow was drifted over. Dress warm!
