Not a lot of shade but still a fun short hike

beautiful trail!! Does get tricky when it’s muddy!!

wonderful hike. the trail head has a water station and the trail has lots of educational signs that are great for hikers of all ages.
the skies were clear so we could see the Salton Sea to the east and the ocean to the west.
not a single person on the trail!
wind chill was a definite factor, got pretty cold at the top but so worth it!

Definitely a good workout!! Hiked with dogs. Not one other person on trail!! Park is super clean Trails well maintained!!

Definitely worthwhile considering it’s a short 2.1 mile loop. A lot of scenery and a handful of steep/rocky inclines. However, it levels out in a few areas, allowing you to catch your breath or grab a quick bite to eat. Hiked in the Winter, but I’m sure that Spring has more scenery to offer.

This is a quick fun hike. It allows you to cut into other trails, like the Desert View and Self Guided Nature trail. A lot of pretty scenery. Hiked in the Winter, but I bet the Spring has more to offer as far as scenery.

The hike itself wasn’t too complicated. Views are awesome. Definitely worthwhile considering it’s a loop, that can cut into other trails. Hiked in the winter. Would love to see how pretty it is in the Spring with all the new growth.

Rated easy, but if you have any knee problems, not a good choice. My husband (80+) is in great health, but has knee issues and had difficulty. Trail is quite steep in places and washed out from recent rains, so check conditions before you go.

Hiked this yesterday. I did not find it spectacular or worth the drive to Julian from San Diego. I saw only 1 other hiker and it was on a Sunday so it is not very popular.

My first hike with the HikeMania group out of San Diego. Great group of people. Beautiful fall day. You can still see the ravages of the fire 10 years ago, but the vegetation is growing back. All Trails has the mileage and elevation change wrong. The actual mileage is 12.1 miles for the out and back route.

Paid $3 for parking. Trail not for kids. steep incline. Nice views. Due to fires, trail was a bit obstructed.

My husband and I did this with our dog today and we did not feel it warranted the difficult rating. Great views at the top, but the climb itself was mediocre.

Good workout. Not a lot of shade. Nice scenery and some steep inclines but not all uphill which is nice. Hiked with 3 others and all thought it was very worthwhile. William Heise campground is really roomy unlike most where you're on top of each other!

I had a lot of fun hiking around William Heise County Park; make sure you go to Cedar Loop. Since Julian is only a short drive away, I go for a hike at William Heise and then drive into Julian for a piece of yummy pie from Julian Pie Co.

We started this hike at Cuyamaca Lake, hiking to William Heise Park. To do that, we took two cars, left one at William Heise and the other at Lake Cuyamaca. The signs say it's 5.5 miles, but that's to the park's boundary. It's about another 1.5 miles to the parking lot from the boundary. It's a beautiful hike, somewhat challenging with the elevation gains and losses. We went in April and there were lots of wild flowers. The view at the highest point is gorgeous, looking to the west and seeing El Capitan Mountain and Cuyamaca Peak. I think if it had been a clear day we could have seen the ocean. Definitely worthwhile!

Great late afternoon hike. Definitely want to repeat soon!

Easy hike, well maintained trail.

Beautiful easy hike, great for kids and beginners. Go into the town of Julian after for some famous apple pie and ice cream, makes it a great outing!

Holy Cow, this trail is so dangerous. Very loose footing on the steep sections resulted in my wife slipping, falling, and getting a couple of bruises. I nearly fell. This thing needs to be closed and fixed before someone else gets hurt.

Did this as an overnight backpack from Lake Cuyamaca and it was good, coming back the second day was a good climb out of William Heise park. Trail says 5.5 mi. but it felt longer!

Nice moderate trail. Remnants of Cedar Fire everywhere. Cool old growth forest near the end.

My wife and I hiked the Desert View Trail on a beautiful New Years Day. At 2.25 this is a very scenic loop. Good elevation gain to "Glen's View" for great views of surrounding peaks and the desert. Foliage has recovered in the years since the last fire, chaparral is about 2-3 feet tall.

Not bad......basic, but scenic.
