Beautiful fall colors, not too cold. Big uphill in the beginning but nice and easy

It was a very wet very windy day, but the hike was still very enjoyable! I imagine there are great views when it’s not dumping rain!

We went the way Ryan King recommended earlier by going counter clockwise to get going uphill at the start. I ended up taking the shorter route down ( Desert View Trail) somehow missing the longer version of this trail (Canyon Oaks Trail). It worked out better to do the shorter version anyway, even though it is only 72 degrees, it felt very hot up there. There was a cool breeze & some shade at times. So all in all it was a pleasant hike, with a great 360 degree view at Glens view....my fitbit claims 42 floors. Someone had gone thru and cut the overgrown plants on the trail ... thank you!

Scenic views the majority of the trail. Taking the trail counterclockwise has elevation gain for the first half of the loop and elevation decline the second half of the loop. Benches and rock rest stops at about 5 spots along the trail. Minimal tree cover.

Good little family nature walk. There’s a good uphill portion right before the half way mark bench. Shaded for the most part if you get done before 10:30am.

Super cool and short hike in the William Heise campground. It is a bit overgrown but totally doable for all ages!

We decided to check out this trial while camping with our kids this weekend at the William Heise campgrounds. At about 2.5 miles (including walk from campsite to trailhead), with some steep incline and decline, very narrow trails at points and some loose small rocks, I probably would not suggest for young kids. Our 9-year-old did much better than our 4-year-old, but she struggled at points too. We all enjoyed some apple pie and apple cider donuts at the Julian Pie Company after, though! And while in Julian, the kids loved gemstone skimming at the Julian Mining company. The 0.5 mile adjacent nature trail is a better option for the younger kids.

Nice hike. Lots of bugs. I was able to bring dog and push stroller and my wife did it with our 5 month old on her.

Overgrown in some places, branches cut back but not cleared in others. Recommend long pants to avoid scratches. Shady parts along the trail, great views at the top.

HikingGreat!

The reviews are correct, the bushes encroach on the trail a little bit from time to time but they’re easy to pass through, no poison oak or sharp branches to scrape you. The worst of it is on the north side of the loop so you could go there and back on the southside to avoid much of it. You pretty quickly rise up and start having some views west and some cool scenery with the dead trees and rocks. It’s a very nice hike overall it’s rocky and has some decent elevation gains (it’s a hike not a stroll) but I was impressed. It’s really fun to see the change to more desert like plants as you get closer to the summit.

This trail was pretty easy, but still a little warm. The trail is well marked even though we got lost while enjoying the view. Would recommend and do again just as a hike to peak your appetite

it was a decent hike. It cost $3 park for the day. Great views throughout the hike. Photos don't really do it justice. The altitude and incline got me breathing pretty heavy at times. I wouldn't mind camping in this area and hitting a couple of the other trails.

Nice views at the top with some benches and a lookout point (Glen’s View). Rocky and overgrown in some areas. Patches of shady areas throughout the trail.

I don’t know who says these things are easy AND kid friendly. Definitely easy for adults but “kid” in my mind means anyone under 10 and this was definitely not easy for that age range. Maybe in the Fall. Half of the trail is up hill and rocky and in full sun: plan accordingly. The first half of the tail is fine, lots of shade and educational signs about wildlife. Great for picnic and maybe short (.5) walk with very little ones.
