Wilder Ranch State Park, just north of Santa Cruz, has 34 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails winding through coastal terraces and valleys. Several restored buildings once belonging to the Wilder family are preserved. The park has tours and living history demonstrations to help visitors explore the history of early ranchers and farmers along the Central Coast. The site was originally the main rancho supplying Santa Cruz Mission. It later became a successful and innovative dairy ranch. Surrounding grounds include Victorian homes, gardens, and historic adobe. This region’s climate has a mild average of 50 – 70 degrees. Coastal weather is unpredictable, so wearing layered clothing is advised. Open 8am to sunset.

I would like to recommend to those looking for kids friendly trail. I took us 4.5 hours due to a stop in a nice beach on the route. Kids loved and we're so busy playing with waves and all the gifts the beach may give. We, pearents, had some quality time also. So it's not about hiking only, that is great for families, but more than it.

Please be aware that this entire trail system is primarily used by mountain bikers. I saw at least 100 bikers and only 3 other hikers. A lot of it is single track as well, so yarn constantly having to get out of the way of the bikes. Would highly recommend for mtn biking, but not hiking.

Dry, many horsers and mountain bikers. People are friendly.

Coastal half was the best. Beautiful views.

The Fern Grotto was amazing and got to watch seals play in their very own water park right after the Fern Grotto Beach! So fun watching the seals!

Love this trail! I’ve done it many times- running, hiking, walking with my mother. It’s great for all ages and skill levels! Mostly flat, gorgeous views almost the whole way, no shade though! You walk along a dirt trail the whole way, it’s a little rocky/uneven on the first part and then at the end you walk through some private property. Amazing and will always recommend!

The beach views and bluffs along the bay and ocean were spectacular. Easy walk, not really a hike, along wide trail on sand. Highly recommend making the jaunt down to Fern Grotto Beach. We laid on the beach for about 30 minutes and watched the waves roll in on the secluded piece of the coast. Bring a towel and a snack to enjoy.

Great short hike, wide mostly flat trails shared with bikes. Fern Grotto Beach was a short climb down but cool spot to see the seals playing in the water and check out the tide pools.

Beautiful redwoods.

Extended it a bit. No issues with overgrowth.

a solid hike that seems like a popular trail for mountain biking. grassy hills with some nice views, with the western part of the trail being wooded. entrance is out and around past the main Wilder Ranch parking lot and through the tunnel under the highway

This trail is a lot of fun for mountain biking. There is a lot of uphill biking but going downhill was awesome. The trails are a bit narrow sometimes so be careful.

Beautiful with marine layer. Overlooking bluffs, pelicans on beach, and seals on rocks. Took our Cub Scout pack, everyone enjoyed the trail. We are aged from 5-38. $10 to park.

Went up for the weekend to escape the Central Valley heat. A great hike with perfect weather. A lot of bikers on the trail, but all you do is step aside for them. Beautiful scenery and great walks through the woods.

Great views!

AllTrails Offsite

Great views, mostly for mountain biking although hikers are welcome.

Terrible for a hiker. Way too many bikes. Will not return without a bike
