Great little hike! Really easy for the first 1.75 miles or so until you split to the left. At that point, it is no shade and almost straight up. That is really the only difficult part, but the views were gorgeous! There is shade at the top too!

one of our favorite hikes so far! you start in the canopy on borrego canyon trail until you hit mustard road/billy goat trail while working your way up to four corners. from there take a moment appreciate the views because it's straight back down into the canopy once you hit serrano cow trail. the overgrown trees that provide shade make it worth a stop or two to take pics. don't park in the ralph's parking lot, they will tow you! park across the street at mcdonald's if you cant find a spot at the park. the only negative is you have to take portola pkwy back the last half 1/3-1/2 mile to complete the loop. otherwise this would be a 5 star trail no doubt! will definitely be back!

Hot, and 2/3 uphill. Good training spot for heat tolerance. Very little shade, dry vegetation.

Saw rattlesnake on the way in HUGE!!!

On Borrego Trail The views were beautiful and there was a few butt kicker hills which was a good workout...Billy Goat Trail was scary...declines were steep and rocky, some sliding from under you, part had a very skinny path with plants you have to touch to walk through. We were very anxious at one point because the path was thin, curved and you couldnt see around at what was coming- we had 2 snakes cross the path, but had those been rattlers, we wouldnt have been able to pass. So, it was a bit stressful for a bit- not moderately trafficked at all! . After we reached the main trail, it was faster, but definitely a trek. Due to rocky terrain, we probably wont do that part again, however the area has a lot of others to attempt!

The first part is great. Witing road is steep but not unbearable. The trail is also well maintained wide and offers an uncountable amount of amazing vistas. There are Mountain lions so bring bear spray. I would really recommend this first part on whiting road. But the billy goat should only be for billy goats! The trail is nice and shaded at first but then 400 foot drop offs are on both sides of the ridiculously THIN trail. For most of the trail.

Great place to hike during the weekdays. Knocked out the Billy Goat trail and The Red Rock Canyon trail, highly recommend! Start early to avoid the heat because there is little cloud cover.

good trail. elevation change makes it difficult in places. Beautiful down in sleepy hollow. if you stand still you can hear nothing but the birds and the bees. tons of wildflowers.

Easy, near home, but crowded on weekends.

The last part of this trail was on the road

3 rattlesnake sightings on the trail today.

yellow flowers everywhere. lots of bikers too

Definitely snake season! We began our hike before 9 AM, and saw five snakes on our hike – three king snakes, two rattlesnakes. Lots of overgrowth on the trail, so keep your eyes open!
