Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a wilderness oasis in a largely urban area and home to our nation's rarest pine tree - Pinus torreyana. The reserve is also a salt marsh that houses many water birds, and as such is a very unique and sensitive Southern California ecosystem that is well worth a visit for the great views alone. Some of California's most beloved plants and animals rely on this reserve. The reserve features miles of hiking trails, ocean views and beaches, and tons of wildlife viewing opportunities. The visitor center houses interpretive nature exhibits that are educational and interesting for kids and adults alike. The reserve is a day-use park only. There is no overnight camping or any picnicking allowed.Torrey Pines does not allow dogs anywhere within the reserve and beach boundaries (even within your car). These rules help protect the ecosystem, please respect them.

Short flat trail that’s an easy walk to a point with nice views of Torrey Pines and the coast.

all trails on torrey pines are closed due to rain now

Nice easy loop. We went on an overcast day but there’s no shade so I can see how it would be hot in full sun. Plenty of dolphin sightings on the coast!

beautiful views. wish we could access more of the trail, many of them were closed. waited around to watch the sunset but more nature had different plans. super over casrmt so the sun was list in the clouds. all good, still a great hike

Great way to add variation to Torrey Pines hike. 118 steps, you go down then climb back up. I enjoy the cardio kick it adds to my hike at TP!

DO NOT GO IF IT HAS RAINED! Wait until 24 hours after rain stops then the trails will be re-opened if they're safe. I went before sunrise and parked for free down by the beach. I trekked up the hills and was not alone, it was very popular for runners so it felt safe. Once I got to the trails they were closed. I kept going down the paved road to Old Highway 1 almost to the golf course. Even though I didn't get to see what I came for, the hike was still challenging and worth it. Great views. Really liked seeing traffic on the 5 freeway from a distance and not driving in it for once. I will be back another time.

Incredible views overlooking the La Jolla and Del Mar coastlines. Perfect combination of modest elevation changes, well-kept trails, and frequent benches for young kiddos. Get there early and park right next to the trail head.

Pretty comfortable and excellent view. Recommended for beginners.

I used to do this hike 3 times a week when I lived in Del Mar, it’s absolutely beautiful. You get the best of both worlds w the canyon and the beach plus the elevation is descent so you get great views of sd from the top. It gets really crowded on weekends though so I reccommend a weekday or really early weekend (6-8am)

118 steps down can be challenging during peak times, but still easy. Views are delightful.

Easy trail that’s clearly visible.

Beautiful views! The trials were crowded and busy so go early if you can.

Beach side of the trail is closed until mid-November!

This is the beach run from TP to Delmar . Awesome run. I love it . Dropped my phone for the second time since I own it. Last weekend dropped it in mud n water up on torrey pines hiking lol today lost it on beach. Ran back to Delmar didn’t find it , ran back half way to TP n found it exactly where I realized I lost it lol. Still Works .

Nice recently maintained trail.

Parking can get packed, unless you pay to park $20 all day no biggy, it goes towards the park. Hike then go to the beach for a picnic! The hike itself is nice wear comfy hiking shoes, take water. There are bathrooms upper and lower parts. The beach stairs are OUT, No beach access unless you go off trail and slide/climb down. Going up is pretty steep, if you continue the trail, be prepared for steep coming back up. No stroller access. wear pants, the trail has bushes and cactuses sticking out so be careful. Ticks awareness and snakes. Beautiful hike and nice starter. have fun!!

Started from a neighborhood on Carmel Valley since I wanted free parking. It was like 4 miles round trip. Beautiful views and workout up the hills. I’d recommend starting early since this is a popular trail.

You do this trail for the views and the beach, not necessarily the challenge. It was an easy hike as stated and the beach stairs had been removed on the south side of the park. I climbed down the rocks part of the way and inevitably jumped the rest of the way. This wasn't recommended and the lifeguard who happened to be in a jeep nearby was not thrilled. It was worth the walk on the beach! This is a great 1 hour loop and I would do it again. 4 stars only because the stairs were out. Parking was $15 and put you right at the bottom of the hill. I did this clockwise in order to catch the sunset on the way down the beach.

Stairs on some trails can be challenging, great views of the beach and landscape.

Fun hike with amazing views the entire time. A lot of different little trails meander through the hillside. Pretty easy and great just for the views. Also fun to hike the trails then hike back along the beach to the parking lot.

Amazing views and great kept up trail. Good for all ages, bring water for the hike back up!

Can’t access beach as stairs are currently closed for repairs, meaning you can’t do the loop. Half the trail is on the side of the road. Overcrowded. Expensive to park.

Overcrowded, but nice views.

Stunning views! And a nice moderate level. Lots of people, and hard to find parking without paying the $15, but everyone is nice and it is well worth the effort!
