Love this trail and the water fall was so beautiful . Good hike done it today 7/14

Definitely got lost coming back down and went to the left instead of staying to the right and ended up on a very scary ledge. Just make sure you stay to the RIGHT when you head back down and look for the stacking stones. Fun hike and very rewarding at the top. Highly recommend this hike but be careful.

We did this for my birthday on June 3. It’s a beautiful strenuous hike up to the reservoir. It took us about 3.5 hours to get to the reservoir as we took my 3 year old son. Once we got to the reservoir the view was amazing. In between the snow cap mountains. Beautiful. Took us about 1.5 hours back as it is nothing but downhill after that! We did see a coyote by the water, that was cool.

Amazing hike. The first 3 miles up are strenuous but then its a nice slow downhill to the reservoir. Views are spectacular. Went in June 2017; part of the trail was still snowed in and a few streams were overflowing. So, glad I had waterproof Lowas on.

Scenic “stroll” trail around the lake. Multiple areas with no coverage so wear a hat. Trail is mostly flat with the exception of a few spots. Bring your fishing poles to hike to the inlet at the far side of the lake! If you’d like a more strenuous trail, take the route to Cleo’s Bath.

it was awesome! 4 hard spots especially with my dog

Great hike, however, at post 10 it’s says to go left but to get to the falls you should go right. Also bring bug repellent. We got attacked!

Definitely Not Year Round trail!! Who's managing this site. it's Snowed in in the winter.

Road closed still. 7/1/18. Seems that the road has been closed for 2 years at least. Doesn’t anyone work for the state/county that can get that up and opened? California’s the 6th largest economy in the world and we can’t keep our wild public places open..... sad

Great trail and very rewarding swimming hole at the end of the trail

We only made it to about 3/4 of the elevation gain, but we did get to some amazing views of both the mountain range and the lake from above.

The trailhead is pretty hard to locate: use gps and offline maps, don't trespass, and if you find yourself on an overgrown trail that doesn't look like it's used much - you are on the right path!

Really fun hike the last 15 min is climbing up rocks

Beautiful hike. Rocky narrow trail. I would suggest to start at the marina side and travel clockwise because it is goes through rock areas that tend to get hot and the beach side has shade and is cool.

Great rugged easy to intermediate river trail. Easy to find your own private beach by the water. Also great for wildflowers, birding, camping, backpacking, and bouldering.

Camped up at Boulder Lake on a Sunday night and didn't see a soul either day. Great views to be had from some boulders just south of the lake. The lake itself is nothing special, but the trail follows the river/creek the entire time which makes for a relaxing hike. Some great flowers were out as well. The last mile and a half or so are a consistent climb of nearly 2000ft, but it earns you those nice views! Recommend for an overnighter.

Beautiful hike out to Wheeler Lake this weekend. The trail gets lost under a snow at the ridge, but after that it's pretty clear and navigable down to Wheeler Lake, though streams run down it pretty frequently as the snow melts. I lost the trail on my way out thinking I had to stay on the ridge longer, but you really just crest it, wrap around the Mokelumne-side of a small hill, and descend. Lake was beautiful and quiet, and the pup loved the hike too. Plenty of water from streams the whole trek.

Not going to lie.. thankful to the hikers that made the stone trail markers climb up was hard but doable.. you’ll feel proud after! Beautiful waterfalls and areas to soak your feet and relax

Went with my daughter and 3 grandchildren ages 5, 9, and 10. The trail is easy until you get to the destination where the waterfall and swimming hole is. You just have to go slow and be careful getting down to it, but it was totally worth it. It was so beautiful and peaceful, I’m going back. Please take out what you bring in, there was a lot of garbage and broken glass in some spots.

This is a delightful trail on a cool Spring day. It’s easy walking and the trail is wide. The views of the Tuolumne River gorge are wonderful and the wildflowers are numerous. A warning: The trail’s entrance is a bit hard to find.

Really cool hike it's a little hard to follow the path. But they have blue arrows directing you for the most part! Really pretty views along the trail

This hike is gorgeous! I’ve hiked around Pinecrest several times and always wanted to hike back in. The water was really moving today, and we could hear the waterfall from pretty far away. Be prepared to scale some large boulders. We saw one small ran snake, but I’m sure there were others hidden in the rocks and plants so watch your toes! The trail can be hard to find at times. Keep an eye out for blue spray painted arrows, piled rocks, and occasionally arrows that look like they were done with crayon! If all else fails, follow the water up! A lot of dogs were on the way back, but once we scrambled up the rocks a lot stopped at the bottom. It’d be very difficult for them and young kids/elderly.

This is a beautiful hike but more than moderate in difficulty in places, especially in the uphill portion to Cleo's Bath. The trail is not well mark in place that resulted in a number of side tours for us and other hiking at the time. The last stretch to the top of the falls can be outright dangerous if you take the almost vertical route.

Great out and back trail. It was pretty warm when my husband and I did this and we definitely should have taken more water. After the first couple miles there’s not much shade! We took a couple dips in the water to cool down and it was amazing. Make sure you have a hat and bring enough water! :)

The hiking part was really just following a short trail to a gorgeous swimming hole/waterfall! A great place for whole family, will definitely be returning to this spot throughout the summer!

We hiked around the lake on Memorial Day with our kids (ages 7, 5, 3 and the 1-year-old was on our backs). Our 7 and 5 year-olds hiked the whole loop with no problems. It was not only a scenic trail, but the trail itself was a lot of fun to walk on.

Nice trail, as of May 2018 they are removing some trees from a valley so there is a large fire road. We ended up following the larger road instead of turning off to a smaller trail which is I think what we were supposed to do.

This is one other amazing trail to hike. You hike along the bank of the vibrant river and its very refreshing.I had been on a mid spring sunny day when the weather was around 70F. I had started to hike by 1030 hrs and found it highly draining and had got dehydrated by the time i got back, may be I am used to hiking a lot during fall and winter and had still not acclimatized to the spring weather. My suggestion is to hike during dusk or dawn so that you will to get enjoy the hike thoroughly. It took 0430 hrs for me to hike this 8.9 mile hike.
Note on the travel direction: after you cross the vehicle bridge in the cherry lake road while driving from Highway 120, please turn to the right towards the cottages. There is no sign board directing to the trail head and mostly you will tend to get lost. from there it is just a 3/4 mile to the trail head and it is called as Stanislaus National Forest Trail Head.

Was definitely a great trail to run! Pretty challenging with all the rocks to climb and hop over. the bridge you have to cross over a waterfall was a bit spooky but totally worth the views!
