This is an easy walk atop the bluffs with an ocean view almost all the way. Wildflowers were everywhere in early April. There are smooth colorful rocks, with chert, blue shist, and plenty others in the mix on the coarse-grained beaches along the way.

Very beautiful views and lots of different scenery!

Loved this trail! Very refreshing and beautiful!

LOVE this trail. We definitely recommend taking Pomo Canyon first and come back via Red Hill (great views of the ocean and also avoid some rocky uphill) scenery changes often so there is always something to see. Many places to stop and eat/rest. Took us about 3hrs with a lunch stop and many picture breaks!

free parking across street at shell beach. entrance sign is small. AMAZING HIKE. walk through forests, shrubbery, hills, and fields. The scenery changes. lots of little spots and side trails for breaks or reading. beautiful view of ocean and Russian River. great workout coming back up the canyon. bring hats and cover for the Red Hill portion. check wind conditions.

This trail is fabulous! Only about 2 Miles until you get to a small peak. The view from that hill is magnificent! And then 2 Miles back to the parking lot. The entire time you see the ocean, and you even have opportunities to walk down to the beach. We walked through golden red grasses and a big rock patch. We saw wild iris blooming here and there. The highlight was definitely the rocks in the ocean. If you want, you can even go further up the trail and make the hike longer. The small peak was a nice stopping point, though.

This trail is all soft sand. The entire way. Yuck.

The starting point is not well marked and in the middle of the campground, thus no parking.

Trails to the beach are not marked.

Gorgeous views!

An absolute favorite for fairly easy trail running. You cannot beat these views. Being ocean front, can get very very windy. And crowded on weekends. Go before 8-9 and have it more to yourself.

Wonderful day hike. Views to Point Reyes. Birding Paradise.

Such a beautiful hike and what better than to end at the beach?! It’s a moderate challenge but it def gets your heart beating!

Love this hike! Park at the beach (free), walk back to the road and the trail starts across the road. Hike down into the canyon, with a steep ascent back out. Beautiful views overlooking the ocean on the return. Can do it in sneakers but hiking shoes best especially after rain.

Beautiful

Pretty wooded areas, happy the weather was misty otherwise would have been too hot out the open.

Great views and easy hiking for small kids!

Really good Trail, began hike at 9am and pretty much had it to ourselves. I would recommend to go to Pomo Canyon first and then loop back to Red Hill. The views were amazing, being able to see the ocean, Duncan Mills, Jenner, Russian River. Would definitely recommend. It took us about 3 hours including a couple stops.

Moderate. Took about 3.5 hours including a break for picnic lunch.

Always something new to see and so many different terrains. Many ancient and amazing trees right on the path.

Beautiful views of the ocean, Russian river and redwoods. Good for trail running, lots of hills but not too steep.

Used to walk this down to fish decades ago. Beautiful area I miss. Used to ab dive just above here as well...

I really liked this trail because it's very diverse. I dont know much about bird watching, but there was a lot of bird action going on which was really impressive.

Fabulous trail that gives views of redwood forest, rolling hills and ocean. Got some great views of wildlife too: lots of hawks, lizards, bunnies, voles, and a snake! The Red Hill trail has more incline than the Pomo Canton trail, so I recommend going out on the Red Hill when you have more energy. Lots of incline so good for a workout!

08Oct2017 Park is under Improvement so there is no place for day use parking. I'll have to try again another day.

It's all in what you are looking for. in this case, 5 stars for the view. Easy trail with one uphill section. Total out and back mileage from the trailhead at Wright's Beach Campground to Goat Rock parking area is 9.1 miles. The trail stops at Blind Beach. From there, either take the road to Goat Rock, or drop down to the beach and follow it. At high tide it is a bit more difficult, as part of the beach walk involves a rock scramble. To add a little extra, keep following the beach past Goat Rock to the end of the Russian River sand bar for a total of about 10 miles. views are phenomenal the entire way!
