Good little hike. have done it several times. Ends up being about 5 miles total the route we take. A lot of meadow trails. Hit it at the right time of the year and the meadows are loaded with wild flowers. Very cool!

Easy trail for beginners

Easy hike but today was way too hot when without shards!!!

Beautiful day. Easy horse trails. Nice parking area but can fill up quick. Map quest tried to get us lost take Clinton Keith it takes you right to parking lot. Only downfall as an Equestrian is that you share the trails with bicycles most are very respectful.

The visitor center was really helpful and provided a great trail to follow. Weather was great and it wasn't too crowded.

Was a beautiful hike, and the weather was sunny but cool. This is one of the more rugged, less manicured trails in the preserve. Saw multiple "watch for mountain lion' signs with plenty of tips on what to do if you see a mountain lion. The best tip is the last one- If attacked, fight back. Did the side trip to the top of Monument Hill as well, great view. Also saw two Rattlesnakes along the trail, so be careful.

Mostly out and back trail, but several ways to make into a loop trail. Scenic always enjoy these trails

A couple survey markers (I found 3) up on Monument hill.

Nice section on the reserve, visiting the historic adobes and vernal pools is a must if you frequent the reserve! Very well maintained. Honor system entrance fee of $4 ($3 under 12), no dogs allowed on this part of the reserve. Beautiful live oaks and rolling grasslands for most of the way, some sections of steeper incline and forest. Mostly full sun.

That's wonderful landscape and pretty secure for everyone who loves hiking activities.

Lots of trails, nice place to hike and go running. dirt paths are wide.

This is one of my favorite trails to run.

wonderful time every yard walkd it's a perfect experience

Keep in mind there are many different routes you can take to get to the vernal pool trail, but according to the map the most direct routes are the 2.4 mi out and back from the vernal pool trailhead from the parking lot on Via Volcano, or the 4.8 mi out and back using coyote to trans preserve from the hidden valley trailhead (I started here). The surrounding trails on the preserve allow for choosing longer/shorter routes depending on what you're in the mood for. This side of the preserve, dogs/bikes/horses are not allowed (however it was clear there were definitely many dogs brought on the trail before because unfortunately there was a lot of poo left behind). Also note day use fee. Trail was super muddy and a bit slippery in spots today due to rain this weekend. Loved the boardwalk at the verbal pools, although it was dry (despite rain). So many crickets today, made for great background noise for most of the hike! Maps/parking available at trail head, port a potty available at the visitors center.

A quick half loop to stretch our legs this afternoon. Started at the visitor center and talked with the friendly and helpful ranger then headed off to the trail for a beautiful hike. Looking forward to returning to the other trails here at Santa Rosa Plateau area.

Great little hike.

$4 per person. Plenty of parking on a Sunday. Not a lot of people. Easy terrain. Went to the adobe and back.

Great views but for an “easy trail” there is a steep incline in a few spots. The rest of the trail is easy but bring a walking stick or avoid if you have issues with keeping sure footing or balance.

Beautiful place, more of a walk hike, mostly easy.

Did this with a jogging stroller on the main trails and it was great, there was only one spot where we had to pick up the stroller and carry it over maybe like 20 feet of rocky terrain then back down.

great time ,kids loved it ,beautiful place that's local and easy for my 4 and 5 ur. old to walk

It was definitely fun! Next time to the adobes!

Beautiful views, started out easy and became moderate, which ended up a perfect ending to a beautiful day. I went with a friend who had been on this trail many times. We got lost a little on the way back, but I assured her that if it got dark, I would sleep on one of the many benches, and eat her for dinner. We found the parking lot. Win Win!

Excellent trail. Hiked about 5 miles. Went to see the Adobes.

Just a little outing. Cool trail. Kids liked it.

Very easy, good for family/kids. There’s nice views of the mountains and just an all around beautiful place. Planning on returning in the spring.

This was an added trail we did along with the Santa Rosa to monument hill. Went on October, off season. Great weather but no water.

This is a great place just to be outdoors. I always see some type of animal. Coyotes, deer, tarantulas, etc. No part of this place is difficult and I don't even really consider it a hike but the views are great and the visitor center is nice to visit.
