Pretty and challenging not waterfall though

Sanborn was pretty with all the trees but kind of boring honestly. Once we crossed over to the castle Rock side on the Saratoga gap trail it was gorgeous! Make sure you've downloaded the map because some of the intersections aren't very well marked.

Closed off right now about a mile from the trailhead. We were going to walk up and hike it anyways, by someone was guarding the trailhead and told us no. There’s a side trail that you can do on the left, but we decided to find a different hike.

Sanborn Park is nicely shaded while part of trails in Castle Rock Park offers great view.

Going up through the walk in campground to the Peterson trail and back is doable with a stroller

Love the trees

We do this loop several times a year. A great workout, and very beautiful.

The short part of the trail to Summit Rock was open today and provided beautiful views of the bay area. We learned that this part of the trail is normally only open from October to late January.

Good quick nearby trail from San Jose. Great with the dog. Bad part was the actual trail to summit rock was closed. No views.

Beautiful forested trail. A bit steeper than description describes. The trail in a few places has some trees and rocks that you have to hope over.

Nice hike deep in the redwoods. Quite steep. Dog friendly. Not as breathtakingly beautiful at some others, but worth checking out.

Short and sweet trail. Mostly tree-covered trail with some moderate inclines and declines. Good place to hike for 1.5 - 2 hour. Trail head is a 10min ride from Saratoga Main Street.

Almost all shade, limited parking, tons of redwoods, very minimal traffic.

Entrance to trail was hard to find. It is across the street from the Castle Rock Park. Parking was convenient, located right in front of Castle Rock Park. Recommend bug spray. A lot of bugs in your face first half of the trail

Could be signed better

Very pretty; more steep then I had thought; good workout.

Awesome short intense hike. Peaceful even with the sounds of guns firing.

This was one for the books. It was very hard, lots of elevation and luckily it wasn't too hot of a day! Great single track for most of it, some fire road, super exhausting!

John NIcholas Trail is a popular mountain bike trail, covering 5.3 miles from Sunnyvale Mountain Parking Lot (on Skyline Blvd) to Black Road parking lot. Instead of doing an out & back hike, I created a loop by completing the hike on Black Road & Skyline Blvd, both of which are scenic and have only light road traffic. John NIcholas trail goes through shaded oak woodlands, redwoods, interesting rock formations and by Lake Ranch reservoir.

Summit Rock closed

Long and strenuous trail. In fact two trails combined into one.

Trail to summit rock is closed, otherwise a decent not great hike.

Paved but moderately steep incline from the parking lots. Small waterfalls and beautiful redwoods.

Very shaded, low traffic and at times narrow trail. Peaceful hike through the woods, including some redwoods! Didn't really get to a scenic summit but went 8 miles total by taking a different loop down.
