A lot of elevation gain and heavy traffic, but we'll marked and maintained. Great views along the way and a 360 view from the peak

A well shaded, easy hike through mixed forest. Great variety of flora and some sweeping views.

I did this hike on Mother’s Day w my husband and my daughter.
We start from the lower trailhead
Where little parking is available.
We started at 7am and walked the easy trail to the other end of the trailhead At Humber Park. We took our time at took lots of pictures during our hike. We could see suicide rock and taquitz peak
From the path at times but it was very cloudy & cooler temps today .
The details say it’s 5 miles but it’s longer and not too much incline.
At the turn around point ( the other trail head) we enjoyed the small creek w waters flowing. So I prefer the return to the car back mostly downhill. I recommend this for family friendly.

Good and easy - pretty. Remember to put your dogs on a leash it’s the law. Everyone you pass is always super friendly

The views from the fire lookout are just mesmerizing!
The trail is well kept and easy to follow!
The trail from beginning to end is absolutely beautiful.

Great trail for all levels. Plenty of shade for those hot days and nice views from time to time.

I just love this trail!!!! Haven't hiked it since the fire but, from what I am reading It seems to be open! I am beyond excited!

This is a beautiful hike

Wow. What an adventure. I love Idyllwild now and really love the views that trail has to offer.

It was close to 100 degrees the day I went but only about 70 upnin Idyllwild. But besides that great views. And wow what a sun-set. My god was it beautiful.

Hiked this on 4/21. Started around 7 am and we were back down by midday. Stopped many times on the way up to explore the different view points. This is a beautiful hike and does not get that challenging till about 1.5-2 miles or so from the peak, at which point the incline becomes steeper. I would deff recommend a truck/Jeep, vehicles with a higher clearance to make it up the dirt road to the trailhead. If you’re in a car, drive slow and be careful with all the potholes and some deep pockets of sand like dirt on the road. Don’t get stuck!

Nice incline and views up to Taqhuitz. A bit more strenuous than the Devil’s Slide Route.

Really enjoy this hike. It's not that difficult but great for intermediate hikers. Scenery is beautiful. You can do the loop to Red Tahquitz through Saddle Junction to make it a longer hike. Just love the scenery. The ranger station was closed for repair so couldn't walk up the stairs. When I got to parking lot at 7am there was only two cars there. When I got back down, and after passing about 50 people going up, the parking lot was full. Weekends, as with every LA area hike, get there early. You also need the American the Beautiful or Day Pass for parking and a permit to hike this trail which can be obtained in the town of Idyllwild about 2.6 miles before the trailhead. First 2 1/2 miles are the struggle and plenty of shade. Last 1.4 miles is pretty level or low uphill so once you get to junction with all the signs the hard work is over.

Great trail. Amazing views from the top. Well covered most of the hike. Good elevation from the start. It does get a bit busy but it’s a most do hike.

Fun hike for families with kids and a fog

Had a wonderful time with my dog

great bang for your work out buck

Love this trail! It’s a quick one, but so worth it if you have a small dog and want to get him/her some exercise outdoors!

It was a great hike to the peak lookout. I definitely enjoyed this way up as opposed to the other. This one was harder but enjoyed by all.

Great views from the peak!

We made it a couple of hundred yards away from the lookout and had to stop because we didn’t have poles or micro spikes. Incredible views throughout the hike. Can’t wait to do it again with the proper equipment.

Beautiful trail. The first half is a moderate uphill on the devil’s slide trail then you come to the junction to the PCT.
The trail was covered in snow which made it difficult on the final accent to the peak so plan accordingly.

Fun little trail through the forest. Gets a little crowded but to be expected.

Great hike with kids and dog! Need an adventure day pass to park so make sure you get it in town. Lots of shade and cool breeze. Great views of the peak!

Fun Hike. Awesome views. Clear all the way through. very light snow in small sections.

Hiked to the look out 3/24/18. First half to Saddle Junction no snow, but after that there was snow all the way to the peak. Bring micro spikes, trekking poles, beanie & gloves unless you're a young(er) superstar! I saw many people who turned around because they didn't have the proper boots or traction (saw a girl wearing Vans slip on tennis shoes and no socks). This is my first time doing this hike and I loved it! The entire trail is so beautiful and picturesque, I was never bored!

Great hike with great views with some steep inclines toward the top. Most of the trees sadly have been burned down from the recent fires. But still worth the views.

Beautiful hike. I usually approach Tahquitz Peak from South Ridge Trail which IMHO is more challenging, especially the switchback push at the end. There was ice patches along the shady parts of trail — way before the saddle, and snow at the top. Micro spikes and pokes came in handy! A little windy here and there, otherwise was a gorgeous day. OH and one hour in I spotted a black bear paw track, about six inches in width. See pics!

Fun hike with bits of snow. Bring walking sticks if there’s still snow, parts were slick. Would definitely go back.
