Beautiful, easy hike...the lake and scenery are very lovely. The trail is very close to the hwy for much of the hike which is the only drawback. We actually went last week on a record-breaking heat day and it was still really nice.

Great challenging hike to the top of the summit. Great views and view of Lake Hodges. Will hike again.

This is an easy to moderate trail. Not very many steep inclines. There is road noise due to it being parallel to Del Dios Hwy. There is little to no shade on this trail, so early morning would be best in the summertime. This trail is used by mountain bikers as well and the trail does get narrow at times. You do walk over the Del Dios bridge and it is a wonderful rusted but sturdy bridge. Once you reach the viewpoint there is a wonderful snake metal sculpture and you can look through a pipe telescope to see the dam and a river. This would be a nice hike for most people.

This is a really nice hike up to the Bernardo Summit. The terrain varies from flat, to rocky and some decent inclines. It is a well worn trail that are shared with mountain bikers, hikers and trail runners. I would say it is a good trail for most, there were some seniors and children on the trail, so use your best judgment. There are several different trails that can be taken, I was on the one marked “Bernardo Mountain Summit” which takes you to rattlesnake view point. If you are going in the summer or hot in general, start early mornings to avoid heat issues, not a lot of shaded areas and in the summer Escondido gets well over 90 degs, so hotter on the mountain. Overall a great work out, great views and round trip was about 4.5 miles

very nice. terrain is fairly easy. lots of bikes, but the path is wide enough most parts.

First/last mile against major highway. once away from it the hike got much better. little shade but nice views.

Great!
Took my 4 month old and it was varied enough in terrain and trail alone to keep him entertained!
Difficulty varied with multiple hills despite climbs by a hill!!
I will do it again!

This is a very easy path/trail. There are TONS of mountain bikers on it so you will need to be aware and be ready to move to the side. I would hesitate to bring younger children on it when the mountain bikers are around in droves even though the pathway is relatively wide. There are plenty of blind curves. The views are fine- I appreciate harder hikes so for me, this is a good entry level path but for others it may be exactly what they want or need. Bonus points for the Sunday Farmers Market at the parking lot from 10-3. Great fruit offerings were available.

Great hike! Even if you are out of shape, I believe you can still conquer it lol. My wife and my 7 year old was able to finish it under 3hrs. Beautiful view of Lake Hodge, Escondido, and RB!

Nice semi-strenuous hike near Escondido. Great views near and at the summit.

great hike.. interesting to read the history and all about the invasive species. you might even see a horse or two joining you on the trail!

Easy to moderate hike and the view at the summit is worth the hike. Nice to see that in the midst of suburbs, nature is still abundant and accessible. Along the trail, you can enjoy the various wildflowers in bloom.

Beautiful trail. Great for beginners. I started at coast to coast trail and totaled at 15 miles. Glad I did both trails.

Beautiful trail, your gonna want to keep going so check out del dios gorge trail. Worth worth it!

Nice hike, part of the Coast to Crest Trail. I have now been able to complete the entire portion from the Coast to Lake Hodges.

This particular section of the hike was not overly challenging but enjoyable. I enjoyed the views especially of the Dam as you approach Lake Hodges.

This trail is just okay. There’s nothing particularly special about it. You never feel like you really get away from civilization because you always see homes at almost every section of the trail. We did see a mule deer bounding through the grass and a woodpecker pecking on a tree, which were both really neat. The trail is pretty narrow so it’s a bit annoying to have to make room for mountain bikers and there’s coyote and dog poop throughout the trail in various places. The trail abruptly ends at a shaded picnic table area.

I love this hike- flat enjoyable path around lake to gradual incline to pretty steep hike as you get to the top- Im older so I find this challenging enough for exercise- always see quail and roadrunner or two with nice view of lake- love it!

Not crowded during midday. Some rocky sections but mostly towards the top. Views of other mountains and rooftops of houses.

Good hike, 1st leg of the Coast to Crest...not difficult since it is flat.

Great hike. Rated appropriately in this app. Good hike even for senior hikers. 360 Panoramic view at the top. Not to crowded in Feb. and breeze was nice in places during the hike.

Nice hike. Easy trails. Out and back so no directional challenges. Too many bikes. And often crowded. The flat dirt trail is unshaded and there’s one ports potty about halfway in. Trail is next to agricultural fields, fenced with chain link on one side.

Bring plenty of water and snacks if you’re planning to make it a day.

Loved it! It was a great afternoon. The dog loved it, too. The trail is narrow in some areas so single file hiking. And if there’s a bike it’s tight.

For those who consider this “easy”.... perhaps Mt Fuji would be more appropriate for you.

Pretty but more urban than we like, not escaping enough for our tastes and we prefer hiking. This is completely flat.

Beautiful Views at the top!

Looks like a work in progress here. The Alltrails map is a little wrong. Once you cross Jimmy Durante, the trail sticks close to the road. If you follow the app trail, it will take you approximately 800 feet to a dead end. Still kind of a good place to stop and watch the wildlife. Great trail for birding, we saw an Osprey and some Kestrels.

Nice easy lots of wildlife around and great views.

Easy to moderate I would say. Not much to see until you get to the peak.

Nice stroll. Nice scenery. Kid friendly.
