Hours: half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset

This would be a great trail for trail runners. Not really any obstacles and an easy trail. If you’re looking for great scenery and stunning views, I’d maybe give this one a miss. It’s ok, but not anything I’d write home about.

Great sunset view from the top of the hill.

Tip: wear long pants as the trail is overgrown with all kinds of needly plants.

Gorgeous view, the trail itself is not that challenging but the trail signs are a bit confusing, grab a map at the trailhead

I found this trail challenging but not too hard; good if you're kinda out of shape but want to push yourself. The hills and valleys are split up so it's not just one grueling uphill climb. The views and wildflowers are really beautiful in the summer.

Parking is limited, yet there were several open spots when I arrived and left. Trail is easy to follow, but make sure you're heading for the right parking lot at the end (there are signs for two different ones). There is almost no shade so be sure to bring sunscreen and lots of water!

We did this loop on a beautiful 80-degree day in late May. Plenty of wildflowers were still out. Big views over the hills to the Pacific were gorgeous. Terrain not too challenging, but a few spots to get your heart rate up. Trail often wide enough to walk side by side. I'm glad we discovered the Midpen Open Space Preserves!

I had the pleasure of joining the 510 Hikers today. The hike started off pretty easy, but was soon challenged by the incline in some of the hills. Would I do this hike again? Yes, most definitely. The views are beautiful and there’s a number of shaded rest areas.

Gorgeous views!

This one was a wonderful hike. Fully green valley view with wild flowers and poppies. We short circuited our hike through charquin trail and the second half of the hike had a bit of elevation. On the way back we spotted a couple of deers.

Wonderful array of wildflowers along the trail in midApril. Great view to the Pacific on the coast side, and to the Bay on the upper loop. Moderate terrain, trail is well-maintained.

The scenery is absolutely beautiful and it's a great moderately difficult hike, which in my opinion is perfect! therefore a 5/5

Beautiful, peaceful, views, shade, flowers, and wildlife.

We did Ridge trail and looped down on Hawkeyes trail to Ancient Oak Trail to Charquin and then ended on Ridge back to the parking lot. Took us 1.75 hours

Loved it. Mostly exposed trails, beautiful and quiet. Can watch the sunrise. However, the trails were not marked very well so got lost on the way back to the parking lot.

A relatively easy hike with good view of the mountains and bay. The signposts can be confusing. Highly recommend taking a map with you.

Really beautiful easy hike

Excellent views. Mostly open space surrounded by rolling hills. Parts are shaded in the forest. Incline is nicely varied with alternating ups and downs. Signs along the trail could be better so that people don't get lost at forks.

Awesome for families with kids

Holy cow. The views were gorgeous, the hike was tough without being exhausting, and while there’s quite a bit of human traffic in some areas there’s less if you go deeper. Best piece of advice IMO: do the whole thing stoned if you can. Sooo pretty. ;-) 9/10

The ~5 mile out and back hike to Mindego Hill summit from Audrey C Rust commemorative site is moderately difficult, especially as it ends with a steep climb the last 1/2 mile to return to the trail head.

A moderately difficult hike through grasslands, rolling hills sporting a summer dry grass cover, occasional wildflowers through a MROSD maintained preserve.

Great trail, mix of shade and direct sun. Not very crowded when I went on a sunny Friday afternoon (didn't see anyone on the trail, but did see a couple cars in the parking lot). Windy drive up to the parking lot, but roads were well-paved and well-trafficked.

Some very beautiful old oak trees, when I went it was very misty and slightly windy. Although once you get your heart rate going from hiking, it gets much warmer and the cool air is nice. The flowers were definitely worth it, so many poppies and other native California flowers. Not a huge incline, you are really just hiking multiple little hills. And these hills are comparable to the size of the ones you'd see on the side of the road when you're driving towards Tracy,Dublin, or Pleasanton. Just little rolling hills, so it's definitely a nice hike for a beginner.

I did this hike on a chilly windy morning. The gates for parking didnt opened till 7 am. So parked my car on roadside (hope that was ok). Trail had nice wildflowers and beautiful vast greenery. Easy trail and not much incline throughout. Good introduction for newbies.

We went to the summit where the cattle roam. It was ups and downs and an out and back trail. Worth it. Barely saw anyone.

Amazing views of both the bay and the ocean, a lot of wildflowers to admire, and an easy hike. Spring seems a great time, as flowers are in bloom and days not too hot yet.

Really leisure hike. I wouldn't say it's moderate, however. Trail was in really good condition despite all the rain we've been having which is nice.

Great hike with extraordinary views of the Bay and ocean on a clear day. We did this hike on a sunny Winter day and were very comfortable; imagine it would be hot in summer, given the lack of shade.
