I go here every weekend, and any weekday depending on the light situation. The best part of this trail is that you can decide to stop at any time and just exit into the neighborhoods around it. This is pretty flat and easy to do, just sunscreen, hat and water is more than sufficient. I usually walk upto 5 miles of it and then get out into the roads and walk back along Genesee. Lightly trafficked is an overstatement. I've barely met 2-3 people on my hike each weekend. Depends on the timing I guess. Glad that this is so close to my home!

Good inner city trail for trail running or walking. Mostly flat.

mostly flat, quiet and simple. Started just north of the 52 and jogged to the school and back, can hear the train occasionally running nearby. On another day, did the other end and met in the where I left off, the least favored part of this trail (the south part of the tracks, not very well traveled in some parts so the trail is not east to run on (deep sand and big pebbles).

Trail head is non existent, the best part was on the south side of the tracks which was hard to find. I only found it after a biker showed me where it was but construction there limits truly enjoying all of it. The best part is off of Gennesee south side of tracks otherwise you may end up on the north side and miss it due to the tracks. Plenty of wild flowers even white poppies?

Alright so this trail could have been pretty awesome but ended up being about average.

PRO'S
- Nice distance, about 9 miles
- Good entry level mountain biking, mostly flat well maintained trails with a couple of challenging but doable hills
- Some cool moments: crossing little bodies of water, climbing a single track hill with a steep drop off just to the side and an excellent view, riding next to the train.
- La Jolla is a beautiful area

CONS
- All trails sends you to a bad start off point in a gated community, easy to get by but still ki d of lame.
- There is no clear indicator of when and where to cross over the tracks and it is easy to keep going until you are fully off the trail. This may be due to the poor start off point but I don't believe I was really on the trail until about 3 miles in.
- BIGGEST NEGATIVE, there is massive construction under the 52? 56? I was really looking forward to crossing under the freeway but due to construction I saw no easy route. Very disappointing, I nearly consider this trail out of commission because of it.
- Not the best hike to get in touch with nature.

Overall I still had a good time, if All trails updates to a better starting point, (Maybe across from University highschool?) and the construction resolves, this could be a good one. U til then 2 1/2 stars.

Accidentally checked into the wrong trail. I did the San Clemente Canyon Trail., oops

very easy trail, the only reason I broke a sweat is I was carrying a weighted pack. there isn't much to see or play with, but there are some interesting plants at least. there's nothing wrong with the trail. it's well maintained and wide with plenty of room. just a bit boring for my taste. plus you can see civilization for most of the trail, and that kinda defeats the purpose of hiking.

I'm giving this 1 star because the directions do not take you to the trail head, they take you to a gated community.

Nice walk with my dog with spring blooms and streams flowing.

You can drive to the marked trail head because it starts in a gated apartment complex. park in the round about of Lucera and walk.

good views of the train. You do have to dodge across one major street.

Nice local little hike. Lots of bicycles, but they seem friendly and polite enough. Beautiful in spring when plants are starting to bloom, and the creek is running.

Great beginner trail for MTB mostly flat that runs parallel to the train track . Encountered 4 ankle-shin high pools of water on the trail left side east of genesse ave

A very relaxing trail with minimal usage that runs along railroad tracks. The trail is good multiple uses such as trail running or just a simple stroll to enjoy the outdoors.

I think there is a little bit of confusion of exactly where rose canyon trail is. It starts on Genessee or Bothe ave and ends at the other. I started from Genessee but make sure you start on the actual path because there's also a dirt road for maintenance trucks a little ways up Genessee. As for the trail itself, it's pretty nice. There are a couple bridges to walk over and some shade offered by low hanging trees. The trail also connects with the San Clemente trail if you're feeling adventurous.

Nice paved trail, right off of the highway. Lets out right near the beach, and some other nice trails. Biker heavy, not as friendly to runners and walkers.
You can bike from Rose and around the area- there are some doozy hills which add difficulty to the initially flat path.

Nice rolling hills trails, that get you out of the city without having to drive out of the city!
Animal and bike friendly! Short to long distance hikes with options of many different routes,
some leading into local neighborhoods. Lots of color, plant life, birds, animals, and creeks.
