Hiking

Trail is well marked at start, but about a mile or 2 in, lost the markers. I ended up backtracking and going up the other way of the loop (West of Keuhner) which is a little quieter. Need to watch out for bikers on the Hummingbird trail. They're generally courteous, but you do have areas where there is not much room on the trail to move over and some areas are steep - so the bikes have a tough time slowing down.

We hiked up to the swing- super difficult trail, it goes straight up but it was totally worth it!

Great long trail but boy once the fog is lifted beware, its hot and desolate. Enjoyed the hike, will do again in the fall.

We hiked this trail clockwise, and it took about 4 hours. Recommend starting at the crack of dawn.

We came here looking for a swing and a cave but you’re not going to find it on this trail but you can find it if you start at the hummingbird trail location going another direction, but I will explain that soon. This trail goes straight up and back down. It’s steep and you’re heading up rocks most of the time. It’s not a bad workout and I enjoyed it. I really enjoy climbing rocks and boulders so this one can be a lot of fun and nice to do it when it’s a little cooler since there’s not a lot of shade. Tip: If you are looking for the cave with the swing inside which I must admit was very cool you need to pass the hummingbird trail and stay straight. You need to follow arrows and a white bunny painted on the rocks and it will lead you up to the cave. Originally when we read about this trail it said there was a cave with the swing but on the actual hummingbird trail, you are not going to find the swing. My suggestion is to Google the cave if you can’t find it. The only way we found this cave was someone showed us the way. When I walked out I noticed if we had just gone straight and not turn where it told us the trail was we probably would’ve started seeing the arrows and the white bunnies to help us along the way.

We started out this morning at 7am. The overcast sky enhanced the beauty of the scenery. We kept our masks handy, as there are few places that allow 6 feet social distance from other hikers.

Awesome hike. Combine with rocky peak or Las llajas for a nice 10-12 mile loop. Great views of the valleys. Well maintained. Great flowers. If you are feeling particularly frisky there is a cool albeit tight trail that is in between Los llajas and Chumash on the all trails map. It has no name. It is very steep but goes ridge line from peak to peak. Quite an experience and amazing flora and fauna. Kind of shocked we didn’t see a rattlesnake but don’t be surprised if you do.

Fantastic hike!! Very challenging but worth the views going up. Best to go early or late afternoon as there’s not much shade and the sun can get brutal.
