Nice beginner X-country type mountain bike trail. Nice climb up to about 1100ft or so, then you get to shred down Backbone. Fast and flowy.

I've hiked this route as well when I don't have time for anything else. If you're a beginner or only hike in the Santa Monicas, this would probably be considered "moderate". But if you frequent the San Gabes or San Bernardinos, this trail will be quite easy. Good place to get your feet wet with trail running as well!

Crowded, but scenic. Watch out for bikers and hope they have a bell coming down Backbone. Bikers, please get a bell. Seriously, it just helps everyone, even slower bikers and may prevent a nasty collision.

Fantastic trail. Gradual incline to the top. Very easy hike. Stunning views of the ocean throughout the entire hike. Ocean breeze and sounds and sight of the ocean all the way to the top of the mountain. This hike will not disappoint!!!

Great trail to run and hike. I suggest to bring at least 1-2 water bottles per person. Great views on the ocean too. The sad thing is that no dogs are allowed on this fun hike. Did this hike in around an hour. There’s also a lot of lizards so be careful where you’re stepping especially when you’re doing a running hike. Also check the weather and wind for some clear days. It’s very kid friendly too. But be careful since the peak is a little steep and narrow. It’s a little overgrown too in the beginning. Parking has to be payed too.

My favorite Malibu hike! Beautiful summit views, especially at sunrise. The final climb will make your legs burn, but the payoff is so worth it!

Loop is closed. Assuming walk-in campground is part of closure too? I looked all over for it. Took Ray Miller 2.7 mile trail to the fire road. Never found LaJolla walk-in camp.

Nice trail for mountain biking and hiking in the summer. Shady, but watch for snakes. Best route is to go toward Newbury Park from PCH. Dogs not allowed.

Photos included here are NOT of this trail - this out and back trail does not include views of the ocean, those were taken from the overlook trail that is beside this trail. This is an ocean-level walk through the canyon, which looks nice but is not scenic. I don’t recommend this trail so much for hikers or runners, it is primarily mountain bikers, and there are a lot of them. Really just a long flat walk. I would skip it and opt for the hills around you.

Great views and decent workout, but nothing bad. Leave time for soaking in the views at the top!

My husband and I bike have always loved biking through here, we now take our son in a single bike trailer and it’s great! The picnic area in the beginning is gone now unfortunately, but there is another bench much farther in off the main trail

Great trail with amazing view most especially at the peak. Definitely one of my favorite trails.

Great hike and the views are incredible. Definitely check the wind conditions before you drive out here. The wind was very strong while we hiked, which was okay for us adults but would have been too strong for kids.

Started this on the opposite end at the Sycamore Canyon trailhead off the PCH. Beautiful canyon run on a fire access road. However a few miles in the dirt road turns to asphalt for the rest of the trail (or if you’re going along the route described it’d start asphalt then switch to dirt.

Great views, clean trail.

Big Sycamore Canyon: completed a 15.2 mile hike at 951ft, along with the Rancho Sierra Vista, Fireline Trail, and Guadalasco Trail, etc. Easy inclines: a good day hike for beginners. Great for building endurance. Nice and cool weather, at 74 degrees, in January 2018. Be mindful of mt. bikers, please. No dogs. A power bar(s) & 1.5L of water would be fine.

Fairly easy trail with great views.

It was a great short hike. took me about 2 hours ( with a long stop when I got to the top).

Berry Good

very good clean trail, and the best views you can ask for, especially at the peak.

Went out first thing this morning, Great trail moderate traffic, easy going!

Huffed and puffed my way to the top, thought it was a bit steep but that could just be my age. A lot of people coming and going. The view from the top was beautiful, well worth the huffing and puffing.

Love this trail, easy day hike.

Really gently climb to a beautiful overlook of the Pacific. Not only is it suitable for beginners, it's suitable for babies! I hiked the whole thing with a sleeping 6 month old strapped to my chest. Easy. Not difficult.

Great hike. Long one. Awesome views.

This was a fun, relaxing little hike which culminates in a stunning view of the coast line. The incline might be a bit steep for those with limited mobility.

Absolutely stunning location definitely go here and watch the sunset.

This is an easy to moderate hike, not hard. The most difficult aspect is it’s length: 10 miles. It’s mostly fire road and approx 3 miles are flat.
