Solid hike, lots of hiking through wooded areas, waterfall is beautiful

hiking
snow

Did this yesterday after a snow storm. It was really beautiful but difficult on the uphills due to the 2-3 inches of snow in some areas. There were also several large limbs and small trees across the trail due to the storm but not a bug to be found except for the ladybugs that migrate to the bridge about halfway to the falls. We did out and back along the lower fork to reduce the distance by about .5 miles so 7.6 total instead of 8.1. The waterfall is spectacular; a great destination hike.

Hiked the trail today with my Husky, there were a lot of bugs, but my mustache defeated them.

Enjoyed very much. Mid November perfect weather. Saw no one on trail.

Easy and well taken care of trail. It’s not as steep as I thought it would be either. The waterfall is beautiful from the large overlook platform. Yes, there are annoying bugs, but they don’t bite. I was using a buff to prevent from inhaling the bugs, then found the perfect pine branch to use as a fly swatter halfway through that saved my sanity.

Nice hike but no kidding about the bugs

Bring a couple quarts of water from Cold Spring because it’s a long way in between sources. November sundown comes early and a cool breeze blows. Beautiful view at this camp site. Should sleep well tonight. Not used to the altitude. Lassen peak is visible from here.

Kiddo (16) and I whooped this one today. Lower was closed for maintenance and clearly posted- thank you hiking gods.... very enjoyable. Lookout was well worth it. Had a nice lunch up there in the sun. I’d say this was an easy hike but the length and a couple short grinds bump it up the moderate I guess. Would love to go back in the spring to see the falls in all her glory. Have fun.

Loved the loop. We went clockwise around the lake I prefer steep up hills over steep down hills it was very manageable for me.

Did this about a month ago! OH... SO SO pretty!

we parked then walked the trail down to the waterfall and that was a very short walk so we decided to hike up the rocks. the rocks are very sharp and it can be dangerous if your not wearing the proper rock climbing shoes.

This trail is very easy to walk. Most of it can be accessed on a forest road.

It’s actually the Spanish Traverse/Ridge Trail. And the map on All Trails is off in some places.

Decent. Starts off nice in the shaded forest then the left turn straight up the mountain in the sun. A challenge with nice views and lovely flora. Keep your eye out for the old twisted junipers. Lots of trash-old and new, including furniture. I’d save this trail for the motorbikes.

It takes at least 20 minutes to drive from the Hwy to the trailhead, but it is a very easy hike with a well kept paved trail all the way up to the waterfall. It’s ideal for all ages and even pets too. The falls are so beautiful if you go in the spring time or early summer when the river is full.

Stunning country. Large rock steps hard on my knees but a nice trail

Do not attempt this hike - consistent with Julian Silber's experience we could not approach the trailhead due to private acquisition of the land surrounding the trailhead, posting of no trespassing signs, and presence of a cattle gate across the dirt road that would have led to the trailhead. Google maps tried to take us to the trailhead via the north; I attempted the long way around (via Rockefeller Road), to approach from the south, but that also did not work (you have to traverse tribal lands, which the residents don't like, and even so it apparently just takes you to the same closed trailhead). It surprises me, as well as the native american local that spotted us trying to approach from the south, that something like curtain falls can be effectively closed to the public simply by purchase of private property. I don't know what the laws are here but I am curious if the forestry service personnel assigned to the area are aware of this.

I fckn love this trail

long trail. the left side is out so you must take the right trail, which I would recommend anyway. 10 miles round trip. took us about 5 hours. SO MANY BUGS. I took off a star due to bugs. bug spray did not cut it. bring head protection from bugs. at the end you can view the falls from the top or bottom. there's also a swing near the top
