Great trail!! We put in the coordinates here and it took us to a short dirt road(not bad) and a small parking lot - was only a few cars there when we arrived on Friday, but leaving Sunday it was full. Can see it easily filling up early on the weekends. There is an alternate parking lot by the campground, but we did not go that way. A whole bunch of us backpacked in for two days, Friday night it hailed and rained all night then sun came out for the last two days. The fire was definitely nice to have with the wind chill and to dry out the clothes from Friday! Did not see snow at camp only on the peaks. Our weather said no rain, but the mountains as always can be hard to predict, but especially near rain shadow of Nevada in Spring!:) Jamison Lake has an awesome camp spot for a large group, this was already taken when we arrived so we headed just 1/4 a mile up to Rock lake and found a great group campsite. Caught and released a few Brooke Trout! Lovely lake cant wait to go back in summer so it’ll be warm enough for swimming.

Wanting to write a review for Wades Lake which is close to Jamison but a little higher. We took our family of 8 (ages 9-43) backpacking in for 2 nights. Great hike for all. Reviews made it sound easy but there are 2 hard parts - one at the beginning and one at the end. Prepare for that. Other than that - we were the only people up there one night. Great fishing. Bring lots of bug spray!

Great hike with pretty much all you want, amazing views, variety of terrain, meadows and lakes. Trail was good the whole way. We parked at the entrance to the campgrounds and walked through the empty campground. Saw a few deer. The Mine entrance was open too with a lot of cars in the car park. Trail was surprisingly empty of people given the number of cars.

I had an amazing time here for my 2nd backpacking ever. This whole time I thought I was in Jamison Lake, but I just found out right now that I ended in Rock Lake. The trail intuitively leads you to Rock Lake though. I had a glimpse of Jamison Lake and it was very beautiful! I intended to explore Jamison Lake soon after I built my camp, but after tiring myself trying to get to the other side of Rock Lake through the rocks on the left side only to find out I couldn’t get through from that direction, I decided to postpone it for another overnight backpacking. I eventually camped in the northern side of Rock Lake by going around the right shore. With fatigue and hard wind blowing, a splendid elevated view of Grass Lake made it all worth it. There were patches of snow in the area and it got freezing cold at night. It also rained, but it wasn’t too bad. The area had different beautiful rock formations hence Rock Lake. It took me a total of 4.5 hours to hike up with frequent stops to enjoy, record, and photograph all the beautiful sceneries. Hiking down took 2 hours with some much fewer stops. Portions of the trail had creek crossings, running water, and the last creek north of Jamison Lake was a bit of a challenge to cross without getting my shoes wet in which they ended up getting wet anyways. The rocky path going up at the beginning of the trail made hiking initially hard specially with an overnight backpack but the way the path was constructed was almost magical. I’d definitely go back to explore Jamison Lake.

This was all 6 of our’s first hike and it was an over night hike at that! Did we just become backpackers!? We did we did!!!! It was amazing camping at rock lake! We pretty much had the lake to ourselves! Sporadic patches of snow kept our drinks cold and the lake iced our feet! The boys caught Brooke Trout as a bonus! Had some deer come through the camp. Would recommend a bear canister or tie up a bag in a tree just in case. The hike is extremely doable. I feel like I got spoiled with this first hike and the next few hikes aren’t going to compare! Jamison lake is visible from certain areas of rock lake. Let’s not forget grass lake! It’s a great first lake you come upon and makes for some great photos!

Fantastic Hike. One of my favorites! The access road to the starting point was closed, so we drove up and parked outside the Upper Jamison Creek Campgrounds. We walked through the campgrounds and crossed a bridge just past campsite 54. We hiked along Grass Lake and picnicked at Jamison Lake. We intended to do the short hike to Rock Lake but the creek crossing had too much water. We added a loop to go by Wades Lake but parts of that trail were snow covered and we had to bushwhack a little. The trail down to the main route was much easier. Majestic scenery.

I gave this Trail a 4 instead of 5 for two main reasons. First, it is extremely rocky. With this being my second hike in Graeagle I’m finding that is commonplace. Secondly, this trails is called Jamison Lake, however, I’d you follow the trail you don’t actually ever get there, the trail ends at Rock lake and if you want to see Jamison Lake you have to use other trails to find your way there. It was getting dark so we didn’t even try and just headed back to the car. Other than those things, this is a beautiful hike, very quiet and peaceful.

This was a gorgeous hike. It starts off for the first 3/4 mile, very rocky and uphill, but then it evens out and has such diverse terrain for the rest of the hike. After hiking 1 mile, be sure to check out the Jamison Waterfall. There’s even a rope to hold onto, if you’d like hike down to bottom of the waterfall, which we highly recommend. Grassy lake and Jamison lake were both beautiful too and were well worth the hike in our opinion.

Great hike! Our first time here and really enjoyed it. Some small patches of water across the trail in several spots but nothing you can’t get over by stepping on rocks. Not too busy, saw a few people along the way but was very quite and relaxing.

Great trail for anyone looking for waterfalls, lakes, and views. Total time was almost 4 hours and we hung out by the lakes for some time. 6.46 miles in total is what my watch clocked. Dog friendly, but there was a sign that said Jackson winter trail no dogs? Not sure what that’s about. We hiked mid day and there was plenty shade. Very peaceful, only saw two other people the whole trail.

Awesome trail. Definitely a hard trail but incredible views all the way around and worth the effort. As is often the case All Trails mileage is low - this is more like 17 miles. Camped over night at Wade Lake with a great site a super lake views. Definitely recommended.

Started from my favorite spot Plumas Eureka State Park. Up to Grass Lake still some wildflowers and wet trails. On to Jamison Lake left my husband there to fly fish. He caught 6! I went to Rock lake for a swim. Such a beautiful area to explore. My kids looked for some bouldering opportunities. Hike is short so there is plenty of time to enjoy the beauty before heading back to camp.

First Hike. Trail head was packed when we got there at 12. Steep and rocky for the first 3/4 mile. Then was a nice easy hike for a mile or so. Switch backs up to Jamison/Rock lake for lunch, then on to Wades Lake. Was going to make the loop to long lake but got a cramp so we went back to Jamison for the night. Campers set up at all lakes.

We camped in Plumas-Eureka SP. went out to Rock Lake. Contrary to AT stats, GPS said 7 miles and 1950’ elev. Nice trail but first mile is UP and very rocky. Several seepages around Grass lake. No big deal for waterproof shoes. Rock lake is still cold—I estimate temp at 60-65 deg so I didn’t swim.

More of a walk than a hike. Not much water in the “lake” in August. Accessible for all ages.

Arrived at the trailhead around 11. Parking lot was nearly full, however, we only passed 10 or 12 hiking. As described, the first 3/4 mile is Ricky and fairly steep. Worth it. Take the very short side trail to Jamison Falls. The trail is easy to follow and the lakes (Grass, Wade, Jamison and Rock) are beautiful. Caught a little rain and wind gusts up near Jamison. Very nice hike.

Hiked up to Rock Lake this week with my two dogs. Arrived around 12 to the trailhead and there were already 8 cars in the lot, but only ran into a few people on the trail. All friendly and having a good time. Last time I hiked this trail was last September, I backpacked up to Jamison and stayed overnight - there were significantly less people in September - we had Jamison all to ourselves. This time I Passed at least 3 groups of backpackers on the way back down, all heading to Jamison. Views at Rock Lake are phenomenal ! Its situated right next to Mt. Washington’s knobby ridge with 360 degree views. There are also nice places to jump off rocks and the water temp is great for swimming. Will return in September to do some backpacking once the crowds have died down.

This is a great trail with 4 lakes to explore, Grass lake, Jamison Lake, Wades Lake, and Rock Lake. We took 3 kids ages 9,11 and 12 backpacking here and 1 dog. You have to have your dog on leash until you leave the state park, once past the state park they can be off-leash. Most groups hiking had dogs with them. We were worried that we would not find a camping site as we arrived late on Friday night and the lot was almost full. We found a great spot both nights. The first night we camped at Grass lake and the second Rock Lake. The lakes are great for swimming and the view is outstanding. At Rock Lake, I felt like I was on top of the world!

This is my favorite hike in the area. It has everything. A waterfall, 3 beautiful lakes, and gorgeous views of the surrounding area. The first half mile is rocky and a steady uphill grade. It then levels out into the forest section. I highly recommend this hike.

Gorgeous hike to Jamison. Hiked 6/22/19. Trail starts steep and rocky then levels out. Many snow melt stream crossings and waterfalls. Pass by other pretty alpine lakes with rock rings-although muddy. Ascent to Jamison has switchbacks. Enjoyed lunch on the granite slab admiring the lake. Total was 7 miles and 3.5 hours.
