One of my favorite trails on the peninsula, and certainly a hidden gem. Hiked goes through three different gulches filled with redwoods, crossing a creek each time. At least in January all had water. Despite being very accessible from the entire peninsula, hiked on a Saturday and saw 4 other people. I love hikes that feel secluded and this is one of the few that offers that anywhere near SF. I’d add however that the hike took a little over three hours and by my tracker was well over 6 miles, so budget time accordingly. Not sure I’d trust the 5 mile count it says here, and with the elevation gain, the steepest part of which comes close to the very end of the hike, it’s definitely more strenuous than most moderate hikes I’ve found through AT.

Trail starts downhill, so conseeve your energy to fight the uphill battle on return. 98% if the trail is under the shade. The ground is covered by thick layer of pine needles- like walking on carpet.

There’s a couple of entrance for this trail, trail signs inside the park is good, no so good to the exit of the park. I’ll say going down is easy, uphill is harder, beautiful redwoods.

great moderate hiking. Miramontes is close but you can navigate easy. other than that is a great hike.

This is definitely not an easy trail. The distance is 7.3 miles, not 5 and the elevation gain is serious. The parking is on the side of the Skyline Boulevard and is quite limited. The forest is great though. There are two benches on the trail.

Enjoyed this hike today. Only two other hikers during the few hours we took. There are some benches at the beginning mile that are a peaceful place to sit for a minute. The creek/river wasn’t really there. Good trail. The return is a workout!

A shaded trail, sheltered from the wind, and the bugs won't eat you alive.

Great trial - the mudslide is not an issue. You can see where it happened but it is easily navigated. Wonderful time under the trees. Was always wondering how to get to the park from Canada road area.

Beautiful hike but definitely not Easy unless we went the wrong way. Trail goes downhill from skyline eastward and after going 3.5 miles downhill and never reaching the loop we turned around and climbed back up. We are in good shape but still a pretty good workout. Maybe the description is only about the loop, not sure.

Note when you come down lonely trail 1: there are two unmarked intersections. Take the right - away from skyline blvd 2: sign saying Miramonte trail is closed due to a mudslide is outdated. There is a mudslide, but very easy to navigate. Overall very good hike. Shaded all the way.

Nice loop if you like trees more than viewpoints. Some good climbs for testing your heart rate. Ran through the loop in two hours with easy to moderate intensity.

It was a spectacular lots of cool pic spots and shaded most of the way.

Be sure to bring cash for parking, it helps the Rangers and also makes sure you don't have to drive back down the road. It is an average hike nothing to spectacular about it, but it is good if you are looking for a trail that is easier to navigate and feel safe if you are hiking solo. I felt like there were some really cool rock and moss areas on the trail, but that is often seen in Redwood hiking areas.

The hike is rather boring, just lots and lots of trees. However, the picnic area is very nice, with some easy hikes nearby suitable for kids.

This is an excellent hiking trail among tall redwoods and an allweather creek.

Fun trail for locals. Easy hiking for kids. Great for trail running. I wouldn't come out of my way to this trail. If you are visiting the area hike Purisma off of Skyline to Halfmoon Bay.

Loved the hike. The inclines were challenging for me (they were not for my grandson & his girlfriend) but the scenery was the payoff. We stopped for snacks & water break just under a couple of redwoods. Beautiful area, quiet except for the breeze & the birds. I'l be back!

Ran a 9 mile loop starting near the southern Skyline parking area for Purisima Creek OSP. Parking here is limited. Ran along Skyline, down the Lonely trail, along Miramontes's and up Crystal Springs. This has alot of elevation change and route saw very few visitors, so bring a partner. Really love the Phleger Estates redwoods as it was lush and peaceful.

Stunning trail, deep in the redwoods. Didn't do the Lonely Trail, but did do Miramontes Trail to Mt. Redondo Trail to Raymundo trail and back to Miramontes. Good elevation changes and trails were well marked. Got a good workout. Definitely want to do again and include the Lonely Trail to Skyline. Note: Pulled the trail maps off of the GGNRA site and they were very accurate.

A great hike but if you use any of these maps, you'll probably get lost. They are all obsolete.

Biking in this park is only permitted on paved roads.

Beautiful trail. Follows along several pretty streams, nice up and down through redwoods and oak environments. Not too much poison oak. Seems more "off the beaten path" and unspoiled compared to other trails in the area.
