Decent trail with great view at the top. A few benches scattered near the top to sit and appreciate the view.

Overall a good short hike, but nothing that makes it stand out or special. It's close to the highway so you can hear cars entire time, plus the trail itself is heavily trafficked. The views were nice at the top.

Good, short workout with beautiful view of mountains and ocean at top. Trail is heavily used and worn with many fellow walkers/runners/hikers even on weekday. Close to CA-1 and civilization so don't get that away-from-it-all feeling.

Trail is very badly maintained and completely overgrown for the second half.

WE started out on this hike on a Saturday in mid August so it was very crowed with people. I can deal with that but what caused us to abort the hike was the noise from both the highway below and a construction site nearby. The hike itself is nice but there are better options in the area even on the weekend

My friend and I did this hike in mid-August and were not prepared. Normally rangers/guides overestimate heat and difficulty, but that was not the case here. Started at 12:30pm with about 1.5L of water between the two of us, and we basically were fried by the time we reached the false summit. The overgrown nature of the trail and the heat made the hike so brutal (my friend was showing signs of heat exhaustion) it was hard to enjoy the views. I'm sure in another season and with proper preparation, this would have been a really cool hike, but as a 23-year-old experienced hiker (for my age) and former college endurance athlete, I had a tough time. Bring enough water, start in the morning, and really take a close look at how sure-footed you are before attempting this hike.

Awesome hike..

Difficult trail. The trail gets really sketchy around the 2.5 mile marker but the views are beautiful. Wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water - you'll be in the direct Eastern sun the majority of the time. Really be prepared for a hard climb and feel good in your footing. The trail gets very narrow and overgrown, and in some places there almost isn't a trail at all. Overall it's a great physical challenge, just make sure you're prepared!

Really beautiful hike. Good workout and nice views at the top!

Falls are closed

Did this cool little hike from Fernwood Resort

Good loop

Nice hike, we went CCW which was steep at times going up.

The walk took us a little over 1 hour. It's rather easy than moderate we think (and we're beginning hikers). The view at the top is not amazing, but overall we liked the hike.

Super fun and definitely worth the view! Tougher than it seems but if you’re an active person you won’t have problems

Great hike, go clockwise!

Lovely trail, too bad it burned. Hope to go back soon to see how the forest is recovering. We camped at Barlow Flats and it was perfect...

Nice hike, wouldn't recommend for families with small children. Lots of folks hiked and had a picnic in a quiet place wish I had taken some food to sit, enjoy the view, and eat. Do this as a first hike if needed in morning. It will warm you up for the day.

Good birding. Nicely wooded. Nice views at the top. Saw warblers, woodpeckers, brown creepers and more.

Beautiful trail with varied trees. Nice view at the top. Path is pretty smooth.

This was one of my favorite hikes while living in California. With that said, the crowds had clearly taken a toll, so I'm actually hoping the closure means it will be relatively inaccessible for a considerable time. This place needs time to heal.

The Pine Ridge Trail to Sykes is closed indefinitely. Locally we hear 2-5 years. While this is a bummer for everyone, please understand that Sykes and the backcountry of Big Sur deserves a much needed break. For years, Sykes got crushed. Damming, Trash, Fire, and Destruction were the norm. Im not an Environmentalist, Conservation No one should be in the Backcountry Purists. I am a local Big Sur resident who advocates for the backcountry, because she has no voice. The Volunteer Wilderness Rangers are out on patrol, and if necessary can call USFS to escalate. There are many other trails listed here on this site. You can get into the backcountry, but for a while, it cannot be through the Pine Ridge Trail. lovebigsur.com

Has anyone gone on this trail while closed??

Love this hike!

Nice quick loop. View at top was slightly ruined by roads and telephone wires

Great hike with moderate hiking uphill. Small amounts of ticks and other bugs but very little considering the elevation and temperature at the time. About 2 and a half hours total with gorgeous views the entire way up, down, and around. Good flat spot at the top to eat and gain some energy back before the hike back down.

Did this years ago, before GPS.
I remember how sore I was and how quiet. I'm sure it's much more used now.

There is a sign (photo uploaded) where the trail splits from Valley View. They are reconstructing the entire trail. Expected complete early 2019.
