Adjacent to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, this area has desert terrain, from below sea level to 400 foot elevations. It is a motorcycle, four-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area. The wash-and-ridge terrain includes a butte with dunes and a sand bowl, a blow-sand dune, springs and a camp on a former homestead site. The park has pay showers, picnic tables, shade ramadas, and fire rings. No water.

great trail

Great views driving in and out . The pumpkin patch is a small area and quickly explored so it is more about the journey than the destination. I’ve read elsewhere that the roads are easy and that you can take any stock 4 wheel drive vehicle in. That depends on the trail. Fair warning: I drove in from the Ocotillo Wells side on the Pumpkin Patch Trail in my grocery getter (2005 Honda Pilot). I grew up in a rural area off-roading in a Jeep. I made it by going slow and getting out and spotting a couple of tricky spots. If I’d known it was going to be that bad I’d of used a different vehicle or an easier route. On the other hand it would have been an easy trip in a more capable vehicle. I just wanted to put out that fair warning for someone with a stock 4 wheel drive SUV like mine so that they can avoid trouble. The ride out was easy. Tule Wash to Cross over trail to S22 is what I recommend if you are driving the kid hauler with 4 wheel drive (reverse those directions for inbound trip). Start at Ocotillo Wells and finish at S22 if you have a true off road vehicle. All in all a fun trip!

The trip is more fun than the destination, which is nice but not spectacular. Lots of trails in and out of Pumpkin Patch.

Great drive. Maiden voyage for our new Jeep and it handled the trail exceptional. Fairly easy in and out trail. The patch was really interesting. Fun couple of hours.

Accessible via Ocotillo Wells SVRA. Busy during the prime months (winter/spring), dead in the summer (too hot). Easy trail, and you don't have to do it out and back, there are other routes to exit once you get there.

Fun, moderate 4wd trail. Scenery is cool. I do not recommend going in summer. It was 116 degrees in July when we went. Not good! But we had the place all to ourselves!

The pumpkin patch at the end is pretty neat. Very odd. Worth seeing.

Probably the most open area of land you can ride on legally. Me and my son love going out there and letting our quads run wild.
