Great trail for a nice elevation gain and down slope at the end of the trail. Entrance to the trail has steps

Great views. Lightly trafficked. Be prepared for mud after you cross Clarendon. Maybe bring poles if you are so inclined.

Nice varied paths. Pleasant walk (1.5 hours). Thanks for sharing your hike route! I would not recommend this in the rainy season — some trails quite muddy (puddles even) on this early September day when there hasn’t been any rain for months.

Just a quick walk from the magnificent city viewpoint up the nearby hill and back. It was windy and crowded, but we were all lucky to be there on such a clear beautiful day. This is a world-class view for sure!

This is a beautiful trail through varied landscape. The western side of Mt Sutro is damp from fog while the eastern side is much drier, with flora changing significantly. Expect to walk through some muddy areas, even in summer.

It was such a nice day out

Last half was very muddy so we took our own way back through neighborhoods which was just as great!

Mt Sutro is beautiful and pleasant to walk through, while still providing a decent challenge with the elevation gain. Getting to twin peaks is also very nice, but you better hope it's not too foggy/windy when you get up there. Also, if you have hiking boots, highly recommended for the mud.

Nice trail for a warm day (70° F) in San Francisco. Ran into other hikers / bikers every few minutes. One biker warned us to be on alert for skunks!

Walked up the stairs from Clarendon and then along the west side of the Historic Trail on Mount Sutro. Lovely walk - I took the spur that leads down to UCSF. It was overgrown and steep, but fine, however the little spur trail down to Kirkham has closed off with hazard tape. Had to add about a mile to our walk and go around to UCSF and Parnasus.

This was a good trail, easy-medium for experienced hikers. Lots of lush greenery and some pretty flowers. Nice balance of uphill and downhill, neither were too hard on the knees. I saw some people but not too many especially since there are many trails to choose from. Complaints are that the west end of the park was really muddy due to the fog, and it even felt like it was sprinkling at some points even though it’s July and not raining anywhere in the city. Also some trails (especially Gardeners Trail) were overgrown and narrow with a lot of poison oak.

OMG. I have lived in the Inner Sunset for decades and only discovered this hidden gem of a hike today, how is that possible? We took in the Mount Sutro loop, and the Pemberton steps as well; the East side of the hill was protected, quiet and reflective, the West side was blowing and foggy. It was two different hikes, both amazing, all rolled into one. The trail was well marked, and it was something I did not expect - a canopy forest with partial views, right here in San Francisco.

Nice trails, though too many branches, hard to choose for me!

Great "triple summit" hike if the weather is good. The poison oak can be intimidating at times but lots of wildflowers, scenic lookouts, and rest stops.
