snowshoeing

I had only hiked here in summer, so I decided to try this trail during the winter for my first snowshoeing adventure. Rentals are available at the Winter Adventure Center, located not far from the bottom of the tram path. Many people were attempting to hike without snowshoes and were postholing down to their knees and thighs. As a result, most didn't make it very far and I had the trail nearly all to myself. Obviously, the "trail" was a little harder to follow but you get the general idea, and in most places there were previous tracks to follow. It was so beautiful to see such a familiar place blanketed in snow! So if you're looking for something new and different, this is highly recommended for snowshoeing. As always, be aware of the weather forecast, be prepared for quickly changing conditions, and dress in layers. Conditions were beautiful along the lower portion of the trail but the wind was gusting pretty hard at the notches and it was significantly colder.

Easy loop with great views of the Coachella Valley, San Jacinto & Santa Rosa Mtns, and more. Very accessible for visitors and beginners.

Neat little hike if you're not into being too adventurous. Beautiful views that overlook the Coachella Valley. Great hike for kids that they can enjoy exploring!

Nice views from top. Added this trail after I did the valley loop the same day. Enjoying the view for lunch was great.

Beautiful palm tree oasis. Have the app on so you know where the trail is. Watch for rattlesnakes. Love this hike, will do it again!

This is a moderate hike. The trail is marked by signs and white dots sprayed on rocks. Lots of lizards and various plants and shrubs. Make sure you get there early before it gets too hot. There is no shade!! Overall, a good trail.

What a great trail for experienced climbers.

Just a good nice hike, best to go early to avoid to much heat. Also to avoid the crowds.

Enjoyed the hike with this trail. A good leg exercise because it is steep. Also it gives you a choice if you want to go further because it connects to north lykken trail.

This trail has NO markers and is nearly impossible to find let alone stay on. We traveled for 2 miles zigzagging across the “trail” and never made it to the oasis. I hope those who find it enjoy it! For what it was, our experience was and adventure full of beautiful desert landscape and we saw many jackrabbits. It was very windy but overall pleasant. If you want to get to the oasis or actually follow the trail, I suggest going with someone who knows the way or just be happy with a wander in the desert. Good Luck!

The oasis itself is quite lovely. The trail, is easy but poorly marked.

pretty easy, but great views of the valley

went here in the snow and it was fantastic!

To start go to the end of Mesquite, park across from the trail park. Walk west on Mesquite until you see the trail head, there is a map and sign. I goes up, up and up on switchbacks, not very runnable. At the top is picnic tables, a lot of people just go to here.

Continue along and great views, eventually you will find another set of picnic tables and another viewpoint, this section of the trail is very runnable, as is the switchbacks down, although is technical.

Then you need to decide what to do....finish it off with a short run in the sand and run back to where you left your car via the road, or back up, across and down.

Pretty but really freaking crowded with people who know zilch about trail etiquette.

View point three was beautiful! Easy hike, fun for the family. Take your time and enjoy the view.

Great short trail for the person who just wants to do a little walking around the mountain when taking the tram up. Great views and fairly flat as well!

Great views of the city of Palm Spring and the valley below.

Not a walk, Steep and often narrow trail, with loose rock, gravel, sand and in places climb over rocks. Proper footwear and good balance required. Good mental & physical challenge! 45-60 minutes up a reasonable goal.

Quick hike with amazing views! I️ come here every time I️ visit! Early morning as the sunrises will give you great photo opportunities! Also look for the white dots spray painted on the path to keep you on track. There’s also a small area at the top with picnic tables for a small snack. Enjoy!

Enjoyed the challenge uphill. Beautiful views.

This was a great moderate hike. Incredible views. Caution on the way down as it was slippery gravel and lots of rocks to climb over.

Spectacular views for a million (or so) miles. Notch 2 & 3 are amazing. It was a Saturday, in June, so there were a LOT of people. This is NOT a hike for solitude, but well worth the views. It is beyond easy. Many people were in flip-flops although I would not walk this trail in those. I'm going back for sure to explore the rest of Round Valley. There was a bear spotted in the meadow, but was not threatening. Probably used to this many people in his/her neighborhood.
