Enjoyed a great snowshoe hike to Lake Winnemucca today. Trail well packed and lake covered in snow, it was beautiful!

Great snowshoe to Winnemucca today.

Important Note—You need to purchase a Sno-Park pass AT A STORE if you are hiking this trail in the winter. There is no option to purchase the $5 pass at the trailhead in the winter!

Also, when you reach a trail junction with an option to head to Woods Lake go this way!

We definitely needed our snowshoes today!

We hiked this trail many times. It is always good.

As of 2/18/18, there’s plenty of snow. The views are beautiful, and the trail isn’t too steep. The trail is pretty easy to follow. I loved the surrounding views of mountains and frozen lakes. Not too crowded. We will be back.

Plenty of snow and the trail is well blazed. Missed the Frog lake detour though. Packed enough to walk with microspikes most of the way but there were a couple of stretches I wished I had snowshoes.

One of my favorite places to hike.
I prefer winter months but spring is excellent too.

I have not seen many do this loop and was surprised how well the trail was managed.
Through the trees on the SE side of the tail it does thin out as the trees drop a lot of needles and sticks. All the markers where in place but Id suggest a GPS.

We did this trail CC wise due to the added 1 mile down hill from Fourth of July Lake. We camped at the intersection of the PCT and Summit City Canyon Trail which was about 10 miles on day 1. There was still snow on the back side of Elephants Back that we had to hike around due to being Icy and steep.
Over all GREAT views and huge canyons on the back side.

Amazing views. Well manicured trail. Take the Frog Lake detour for a great Vista of Red Lake then circle back to the trail to continue on to Lake Winnemucca.

There's a parking lot with a cash box. Bring $5 with you. Bathrooms also located at the parking lot.

Very nice hike and overnight stay at Roundtop.

The wildflowers were exceptional this year!

Good quite, hike during the week. Disappointed I missed the wild flowers but still beautiful.

The wild flowers are amazing
Best to hike around the first two weeks of august

Took our baby and our snowboards and did some snowboarding in August!!! Easy enough to make with a heavy front and backpack!!!

Well maintained trail and beautiful views. Much easier than "moderate" once you've become acclimated to the elevation. Wildflowers were in full bloom with patches of snow still around. Highly recommend!

Way too crowded for my likings. Dogs need to be on a leash throughout but I let mine off at intervals and at the lakes to swim.

Very nice trail! Hiked up and around frog lake and took a dip in the cool water. Greenery and wildflowers abound. Saw a buck and several birds. Would probably rate it easy instead of moderate. Will definitely do again!

greAt hike with some snow patches to walk across and some wildflowers.

This was my Grandma's favorite wildflower hike... Elephant Back. I'm so glad to have shared it with her. ♡

Beautiful alpine habitat and scenery!

fun hike. the pct section is a bit harder than the winnemuca section. camped up at winnemuca and it was gorgeous lake to ourselves. tried for round top but didn't have it in us. we packed way too much but had a blast anyways

well maintained trail. fantastic views. will definitely go back. Probably in the off season so it's not so crowded

Took my 7 yr old on his first backpacking trip. Perfect first trip! Campsite permits are first come first serve at the trail head. Night #1 at camp just NW of Winne Lake, great views of valley to West to Caples. Night #2 at camp overlooking North side of Lake. Day hiked to Round Top Lake, summited Sisters and got pretty close on Round Top, get's sketchy for a little guy. Great trip!

Even though the wild flowers are mostly gone, the views are still wonderful. Feeling the breeze while resting at Lake Winnemucca and gazing up at Round Top was today's reward.

We come back every year to see the wildflowers. We were a bit late this year but their were still some blooming and the views we spectacular. Stopped at Frog Lake and then onwards to enjoy lunch at Winnemucca Lake. Good up and down hiking.

A terrific trail. The lake is a lovely place to have a picnic.

Excellent hike with a steady climb up to the lake. Visit Frog Lake en route and walk to the end to see a view down Carson Pass with Red Lake below.

We are inexperienced and unfit (!) and struggled with the altitude - but went up in 90 minutes (including the Frog Lake detour) and back in 50.

The Lake was a beautiful quiet place when we were there and we found a great spot to read and eat.

Aug 6th, we camped at upper blue lake campground and hike from upper blue lake to granite lake. Due to the season, the upper granite lake dried and made a wild flower blooming at the shore of upper blue lake. It was fantastic, like a flower fastival. And the hiking from the trailhead to granite lake was mild and easy, but lake was great.
I could recommend this course especially early August season.

Despite how difficult the trip was, especially with the hiking, it was totally worth it. Enjoyed swimming in 4th of July Lake and Lost Lake. This is a loop trail.
