The highlight for me is the early parts (pre-climb) of the Joshua tree garden, which is the largest in the world. Peak is cool, but that garden is the best. Saw a cool deer runnin around up top. If you can catch a sunrise in this area your mind will explode from pure beauty. Camp by white cross right across the road if you can.

Short, mostly flat hike around some rocky outcroppings. My girls loved it (partly because it was perfect 60 degree weather in late December), even the 11 year old, who struggled a bit with the rings up through some narrow stretches of Banshee canyon. Take the hike clockwise and you'll wind up going up the rings, which are there for pretty short stretches. Short walk from Hole in the Wall campground.

Fun but not hard except if you crawl through the rocks. Camped at Mid Hills and hit Mitchell Caverns for a great adventure weekend

This is an amazing hike through what I would consider a cactus garden and although at parts you are walking basically in the streambed, it is not a difficult hike. The views are well worth going for, as well as the scenery of the Joshua trees and the other cactus plants. Parking is right off the main road so lock up all valuables.
A Virtual Treadmill video of this hike can be seen on my YouTube Channel, copy and paste link below to watch it. Thanks.

This is not an improved trail, some dirt road but mostly off trail scrub till you end up walking through cactus which is where I turned around. It was beautiful scenery just a little hard to walk through

Super fun and short hike. We were the only ones there. Super special experience. Love the absolute quietness. The rings could be a challenge for some, but was fine for us.

This was really cool!! When we went today there was not one person out there and the weather was amazing, no trash or graffiti here! Just remember, if you feel like you’ve gone too far, YOU HAVE. The trail where you turn is really close to where you park. I could see my car from the stairs. From the parking area you only hike about 0.2 miles and then turn right where those brown posts are that say “no motor vehicles.”

*very short hike
*hiked in .3 miles and out .3 miles
*rocky and sandy hike (basalt rocks everywhere)
*climbed up & down the tunnel
*saw the scenic cinder cones

This is a relatively easy and very gorgeous hike. The first 2/3 is pretty flat, and goes through a Joshua Tree forest. The last part is on a moderately steep incline and takes you up to a great view of the Cima Dome. The view at the top is definitely worth the work to get there! If you have a limited amount of time in MNP this is a great hike for the list-easy to get to, pretty quick (a couple hours tops), and fantastic scenery

This was a beautiful hike. The desert scenery is remarkable, and the trail is well kept and easy to follow.

Loved this trail, very scenic!! It was easy until we came to the rings...The rings were an interesting challenge! My husband had some difficulty with them bc he is so tall, he found the spacing of rings difficult.

No people in May, on a weekday. Spring was dry, tho looked like coyotes had been digging for water. Gorgeous. Wildflowers galore. Easy hike, tho some vigilance required to stay on-trail.

Really amazing. But the road to get there was rough and there are no signs to help find it or cell phone service, so no gps.

superb trail !

Great hike. Well established trail all the way to the top. Good variations in landscape. Wonderful views at the peak.

if you have a wimpy car, approach from the south on paved roads!

i tried to access hole-in-the-wall from the north via Cedar Canyon Rd, which is marked as ok for 2wd vehicles. but i turned around as I wasn't certain my compact rental car could handle it, especially in the rain.

Joshua Trees from the get go are amazing and the views from the top are unbelievable.

Five of us old folks (average age 67) did this one at the end of January. We had a great time and found the hike easy except the rings themselves. With only a little trouble, and a lot of laughs we made it up the rings. I enjoyed it so much that I repeated this part when finishing up the Barber Peak Loop Trail. Loved it both times.

When we went we had it to ourselves. We walked passed the trail the first time. When you get to the end of the road, you're going to go left. Follow the volcanic rocks on the ground. Then to your right you will see a trail up a slight incline. Pass the first hole to reach the staircase. I would recommend bringing a flashlight as our phones weren't strong enough for the darkness. Also watch the ceiling! I scraped my back pretty hard down there.

Worth the effort. From the paved road go past the dirt road shown to the next bigger dirt road wider and better condition

Great views of plateaus and mesas in the valley, the rings at the end are unique and fun. Worth doing it even if the rings are too challenging.

All the incline is at the end making for a good workout with rewarding views at the finish! Very enjoyable and well marked hike. Great views of the Dome!

What a great trail! The rings were awesome!

Worth the off road trek

It’s a really lovely place. The hike is quite manageable, though take it easy on the way down.

Cool trail that apparently has the highest concentration of Joshua trees in the world. Nice views at the top. Took us 45 minutes to go up and 30 to descend so it’s a great quick hike!

Great hike through Joshua Trees, Juniper Trees and cactus habitat. A well maintained trail leads up the peak and at the top are great views. The hike up is not overly strenuous and overall it is an easy trail with little shade.
