Wonderful trail through beautiful woods

This trail leads from a small parking area on Hwy 36E to a junction with the Dry Lake Trail after 2.1 miles all within the McGowan Cross-Country Ski Area. I completed it on cross country skis with an unhappy dog in tow. Though listed as moderate on the Ski Area Map, it was not difficult and fully possible in normal xc skis without skins. There are relatively few views or points of interest on this portion of the trail--more a stroll in the woods than the spectacular views provided at the nearby National Park. Unlike the park though, the Ski Area is free to the public and allows pets.
