Stay to the left the lake trail is a waste unless you’re just looking to get into the rock pool. The real work out is on the century lake trail it loops but you can really get your heart pumping! We looped it and came back to the cool off in the water at rock pool

VERY hot on the day we went, definitely could have used a little more water on the way back up. (All downhill to start so the end is a good trek up, otherwise pretty flat for big chunks) Water is pretty stagnant at this point but a lovely loop with some nice views and varied terrain. We didn’t go in the water but probably would at another point when it’s moving more. Very busy section, too many people to feel like a real hike.

Take lots of water. We hiked during the heat of the day. Recommend early or later in the day. Not marked very well. We went an extra section and had to back track. River is dry.

Parking isn’t ideal but the view at the top of this hike is one of the nicest in the Santa Monica mountains. A 360 view of the valley and the beaches. The trail is overgrown and buggy but calm and lightly trafficked. Will recommend for a late afternoon or early morning hike. When the sun is at its highest the most beneficial thing would be to stay around the boulders and enjoy the color changes on the rocks.

Typical trail for this area: straight up a fire road with nice views of the mountains and beaches dotted with million dollar homes. Good exercise trail for sure but not much of a nature walk; you can hear the road most of the time. We were lucky and went up while it was overcast but in full sun I can see how this would be super hot. Also, you have to pay to park at the trailhead.

Awesome views. Some shade at the beginning but quickly becomes a fire road that's wide and clear with little to protect you from the sun. Went on a late morning on a Sunday in August, and it was both slightly warm (not too hot) and not too crowded (passed no more than a dozen people the whole time). The "peak" is basically a picnic bench with views of the ocean, but there's a lot more trail to keep going on along a ridge in two extra directions.

Super easy path to walk and run on. Once you get deeper into the lake path (as opposed to the pool path), a portion of the path becomes sandy...almost like running on a beach. I tool the trail up to Reagan Ranch expecting to see at least one building but like all the trails in this park, I found out they just dead end into nothing. That said, it is a good easy workout for trail runners. Just be aware there are a lot of people that come to this park especially to the rock pool with their kids. Also, it costs $3.00 an hour or $12.00 per day to park inside. If you can find parking outside the park and don’t mind walking a bit, I’d recommend doing that.

What I loved: -The path is well marked and easy to follow. -Some shade along the way. -Low traffic. (I didnt see a single person) -2 Payoffs for this hike 1) A large boulder line 2) The summit with 360 degree views. -Some of this hike is on the Backbone Trail -Better views of LA and the Santa Monica Bay than most summit hikes in the area -Beautiful drive to the trailhead -This would be an amazing trail to hike after a good rain washes the LA haze away My advice: -Consider lightweight, long pants for the small part of the trail where your legs may brush the vegetation. -Bug spray -Sunscreen -Best hiked early

Best to go very early in the season. The water flow is stagnant at this time.

This hike is nice but somewhat heavily trafficked. The hike is a short walk into a shaded pool with large rocks, hence the name rock pool. Once you reach the pool, there is typically a pretty large crowd camped out on the rocks with towels, food, etc. It is hard to find a quiet place if that’s what you are searching for. If you can find a spot for yourself, it’s a beautiful view between the mountains with small wildlife and lots of plants and trees for shade. Overall it was a nice, short hike with plenty of beautiful nature to enjoy

Very popular trail so get there early to find parking. Bridge was out so you need to cross the river via a downed tree just past where the bridge was in order to get to the MASH set. I tacked on a little extra going all the way to Malibu Lake. Easy hike and not overgrown.

some of the trails are closed. but was a nice easy trail for me and my 7yr old

Great view and cozy but no shade.!!

Parking is $3 an hour or $12 per day if you go where google maps leads you. Overall an ok hike. First part is busy with lots of people with towels, ice boxes and speakers, barely any shade, more a walk than hike, and cute views. 2nd part is quieter, soooome incline, no shade, 3rd part is through the forest, lots of shade. The lake is cute but the ending kinda meh...we ended up walking to the damn and then back to the lake where I could see myself just sitting with a good book. It was a nice walk, but it sure does deserve the "easy" grade and I bet it was gorgeous when everything was greeeen.

This trail was very peaceful and the view of the fields were amazing. The destination of the rock pond was GREAT! I would definitely suggest jumping into the water. It’s cold and refreshing. This whole trail experience was very nice.

Loved the hike! The views at the top are beautiful! Be careful parking at the Puima trailhead parking lot, my car was broken into and I had credit cards and ID stolen.

Please if you are hiking anywhere in this area look for signs of Mathew Weaver who went missing around this trailhead in August 2018. Please if you find anything out of the ordinary report to local police

I really liked this hike to change up my normal all terrain hike usually done at Stoney point on Topanga. It’s is very peaceful, but get ready to put your gluteal, calves, and leg muscles in overdrive! I was dying my first time making all the way up on the first try. It’s like putting the treadmill on incline 15 or more the entire way.
