Lots of elevation gain initially, rocky trail. Nice foliage, greener than other trails in the area like Los Liones and Temescal. Great views and picnic table about 2 miles up.

Inclines are not too difficult but trails are long! Beautiful views to your east and west as you ascend.

Lovely hike on a cool morning. First 2 miles or so is steady ascent (nearly all of the elevation gain). Highlights: oak trees cluster during ascent, views from the crest (both north and south), rock formations & wind caves near the end.
Note: the map shows leaving from a locked gate, actually the Puima trailhead is the right spot, 100 yards or so south.

Ran this trail yesterday and it was absolutely beautiful. I'll be making it a regular!

This was the best hike in the area and we've done a lot of hikes in Malibu. Great views, good amount of difficulty and activity. Fall is definitely a good time for this trail.

Great Hike! Challenging but the view is rewarding!

Great trail. We parked at Kanan Dume and Newton Canyon. Because of all of the recent rain, the greenery was a wonderful surprise and the flowing creeks and waterfalls were a rare sight for a state plagued with a drought for so many years. Trail is pretty straightforward and be warned, there are some descent ascents here. That said, I plan on going back. We also saw a big waterfall (by SoCal standards) that was not directly on this trail, so we plan on going back to try and find a way to it.

Was an amazing hike , beautiful day , liked how it went from fairly moderate to challenging , great cardio workout. Reached the peak and the ocean view was breathtaking...

I'm not sure how this trail ended up being rated moderate. I found it to be pretty easy with the exception of the heat; the shade was minimal. This would be a good trail for dogs. Just make sure to keep them leased as there are a lot of mt bikers and we did see a snake.

People think L.A. is all city but we are lucky since mountains are all around us, so many great hikes and this is a great one if you just want to go out at the spur of the moment.

Awesome Hike !!! However I did shatter my ankle while running on the way down to Malibu canyon Rd. We did 10.5 miles total and stopped for a while at the "Jim Morrison Caves"

A nice hike with lovely views. It's open but the fence is of course there making the loop impossible. Go left at the top instead of towards the gate and you can get a good view of the ocean and into the canyon.

Waste of my day. It is now private property. It's gated off by a private owner.

This trail is badass!!! We had the best day riding this rugged trail. It can be a little difficult at times for a beginner rider, but it is well worth the struggle. It takes you down into the Valley with a single track trail that moves through the woods... It moves from small uphill climbs to downhill rides very quickly. I love that about it because there's never a long climb to wear you out! It's still a great aerobic workout though.

An awesome added piece of art you'll see is the over extended heart carved out of a dried out tree ... If you pass it you're definitely not looking at your surroundings :-)

When we finished biking the trail, we climbed up to the giant rocks surrounding the parking area. The views are amazing!! We couldn't get enough of this location and this experience.

Enjoy the ride, it's awesome!

Monday morning turned out to be a good time. Only three mountain bikers while I was there. I hiked the Corral Canyon parking lot to Latigo and back. I expected the sun-exposed sections, but there are some beautiful tree-shaded sections with easily traversed creek crossings.
