Beautiful trail! Fairly flat up to Mt Pinos, but the trail gets a little more difficult if you want to continue to Sawmill Mountain and Grouse Mountain (which makes it about 10 miles RT).

I wouldn't recommend taking your dogs. the rough surface is hard on them if u walk by the river. nice fun hike until my 120 rotty had to carried out 2.5 miles.

Short walk to great views.

Beautiful views, perfect spot to watch the sunset!

fun and easy "hike", it's really walking down a dirt road to the castle. The views of the horizon from the castle are amazing. I would def do it again, but be warned it is easy and super short.

pretty creek but don't go this way looking for the waterfalls. the topo map shows some way up but probably not what you are looking for.

The trail is overgrown in places, sometimes necessitating up close and personal contact with the bushes on either side, but most of it was a lovely walk zigzagging across the creek (which still has water in it). There’s a good bit of scrambling over rocks, but nothing my wobbly ankles couldn’t handle. Bring extra water—it was quite a bit hotter up there than down by the coast.

Not too hard, great view from the peak.

Cool old structure, not really a trail more just a dirt road. With ease of access the Castles is filled with instagram models and littered with plastic Starbucks cups and straws.

healthy hike, beautiful views overlooking Pine Mountain Club and the valley. beautiful view of mountains.

Overgrown

I went last Sunday and the gate leading to the trail was closed and it was 9 miles from the gate to where the hike started. Does anyone know if it is open yet?

Just hiked here yesterday. It’s starting to get HOT but it was still an awe inspiring experience to turn the corner and be at the base of these majestic rock formations! Definitely will be back, hope to backpack into Sespe.

Beautiful hike that was a moderate challenge. We ended up scrambling up the river to the waterfall which was slightly more challenging but beautiful. Met some friendly hikers along the way but most of the time was quiet and serene.

Easy hike and family friendly. Like the cave!

Beautiful views but it’s not a hike

Epic bucket list hike.... went out with a bang! Always wanted to do an overnight hiking trip before my big 5-0 .... trail was no easy task (for me) but with the help of my daughter it was a success..... Not so much for one of our team mates who fell about 30ft down a revine and had to be airlifted out after my daughter was able to rescue her enough to get her back on the trail. Hats off #calfire #chp and the medical team.
I will definitely be back.

Nice leisure walk

The place was beautiful. Parts of the trails were washed out but easy to get back to. The creek was flowing when we went and it added to the already beautiful landscape. There was plenty of shade, the trail isn’t flat therefore it’s truly moderate. Kids and most level hikers can hike it.

Very beautiful view! Easy to walk to.

Great place. Easy quick hike. Waterfall was roarin after the rains. Tied a line to a tree across falls at the top n zip lined to the middle. Epic view. Can also climb on the top of the boulder in middle of water. There's a lil cave under that rock as well.

Great easy trail, lots of birds and nature, and poison oak so stick to the clean trail.

This hike was perfect for my family. The views are amazing and start almost immediately. Parking is limited and fencing is thin barbwire which was fine for everyone except my 3 year old.

Hiked today. The surrounding area is fire damaged and the smell of char and smoke still lingers. This is the only trail in the area that I found still open. There isn’t a parking lot so you have to park on the road. With my car, there were only 3 cars! The trail is easy to follow, you will cross a stream a few times so trekking poles are helpful but not necessary. Nice, easy trail.

love it. take the connector trail on the fire road near the start it's a great view steep....straight up...

great trail amazing views there water in the creek tats a plus!

This trail is easy to find and has plenty of parking right off HWY 1. The trail starts off with the waterfall only 200 yds from the parking lot. Next, switch backs take you up 800' revealing wild flowers and rock outcroppings. About a mile into the hike, we were stopped dead in our tracks by a mountain lion. Luckily it wasn't looking for dinner or a fight, and just warned us with a pronounced growl. We took a hint and turned around. I am looking forward to going back to complete the hike without interruption.

This trail loop is accessed along James Way - a main thoroughfare to the Trader Joes's, Walmart, OSH & Food 4 Less shopping complexes - offering a conveniently located quick exercise break (roughly a 20 min. loop under a lovely oak canopy) on the way to or from doing nearby errands! Often I'll bring my energetic Lab along so we can both enjoy a quick stroll during what might otherwise be a busy, non-exercising day. It's an especially nice trail on warm summer days where the shady oak trees provide a cool, easy and local hiking option. Lots of poison oak surrounds the oaks, so stay on the trail!

Great hike for day hikers and overnight hikers. Plenty of water there, easy drive from SLO
