I just did an out and back to the top of Loma Alta. Great views. Very windy during golden hour.

The hike starts out misleadingly flat and becomes quite steep. The views are stunning but the hike is unexpectedly challenging and is frequented by many mountain bikers. There is shade during some parts but most of the hike is open and on an unpaved fire road.

Very nice trail; not much parking, but the trail wasn’t very busy. You can see San Francisco, the Richmond Bridge, and Mt Tam, and lots of wildflowers. A couple notes: 1) it looks like the trail names have changed from what’s on the AllTrails map. The first left you make onto the loop is Glen Fire Road, and what the map calls Old Railroad Grade Loop is actually marked as Old White Hill Grade. The Sunrise one has the same name on the map/signs. 2) while AllTrails lists this as “dogs on leash”, there are a few parts where signs say “dogs under voice command”. The trails are nice and wide though, so if you’re like me and have a dog-reactive dog, there’s plenty of room to pull over and ask people to call their dogs back.

The cows here are incredibly aggressive. Proceed with caution. We had to get rescued by the sheriff because the cows were charging us.

Good hike. Goes up. QUICK. But, overall wasn’t bad. Saw a few coyotes, but nice views of the Bay. Would do again

Good hike for views of rolling hills, lots of greenery. Moderately trafficked, with bikers along the way. No ocean views but beautiful trees along the way, alternating between shaded and exposed areas

Nice trail! The downhill part was extremely muddy (January), difficult to do with runnjng shoes. But overall a nice trail, I started before 7 am and had an amazing sunrise! I think this trail would be better named the loma alta trail.

The vistas are beautiful and as you reach the peak you can see both the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges as well as the city. It’s challenging to walk up however. It’s quite steep and fully exposed. It makes for an excellent workout. With so many options in this area I don’t know why I would do this one again but I did enjoy it. It’s definitely more for exercise than for a weekend walk in nature.

We did the loop counter-clockwise, which is the opposite of the elevation profile on AllTrails. Mostly exposed and dry in July, just a few flowers, lots of lizards, turkey vultures overhead. Bikes and horses on the trail, probably good for a dog companion too.

I’d say this is more easy than moderate. Not a lot of climbing, pretty well travelled trail. There’s pretty tall grass along most of the trail so beware of ticks and stay on the trail. Mostly exposed with some points of shade. Saw some cows. Overall an enjoyable hike with decent views although the view from the top wasn’t the best in the area. Good for any skill level.

Pretty good hike with the hardest climb at the beginning. Nice wild flowers and good views. Parts of the trail were overgrown in the middle of the loop section and had trouble finding the trail once or twice.

Great views, wide open, a little muddy after a rain.

Triple C Ranch has a locked gate. My mistake if this was off the 680 Trail. Its presence prevented us from completing our hike as planned. Beautiful otherwise.
