We visited Lassen on a beautiful clear day and walked down to Manzanita Lake from the Visitor Center. The views of Lassen Peak are spectacular from the lake, it's quiet and you can hear fish jump out of the water. There were fisherman and campers enjoying the cool breeze off the water on an otherwise pretty hot day. The hike around the lake is easy and maybe a three, but adding the views, it's a four.

As others have mentioned, this is a walk near the parking area with some nice informative exhibits and an up close and personal taste [and smell] of volcanic mud pots and ecosystem impacts. Worth a stop.

A great forest hike through the pines of Lassen. The trail weaves through the woods and crosses streams. I was hoping that the apex of the trail would yield great views and a nice spot for lunch. However, the trails just sort of ends into a meadow. (Though the meadow is quite beautiful.) A great hike if you're looking to be amongst nature, though other trails in the park have much better views of Lassen and the surrounding area. (Hike was done in August 2017)

Snowshoed this as a loop cutting across the Jumbles to the road and back. Peacefully follows a creek on the way up before making a slightly more aggressive climb towards ridge above the lake area. Decided to climb partway up the ridge leading to the crags above to a small rock formation with great views of Shasta in the distance. Turned back towards the lake area from there due to high winds and unstable terrain. Fun trek through the snowcovered rocks in the jumbles area back to the road, and after spending some time on the south side of Lassen, it was refreshing to see tracks reflect good trail etiquette.

Great walking trail around the lake, and convenient to the Campgrounds. Wonderful views of Lassen Peak, and the trail has places you can sit and enjoy the view. Good for all ages, and lots of shade!

Went to the North entrance, was unable to drive through due to snow, so ended up here. Nothing too special, a little lake and a trail.

Beautiful views of the mountain and lots of wildlife. The trail was simple enough for our toddler with enough beautiful view for us to feel completely satisfied. Lots of little snakes, chipmunks, and ducks/geese.

The lake destination was nice but the sights along the way were most interesting to me. It's a fun trail with a gradual incline near a cool creek.
This would be a great trail for running as the terrain is relatively even and the incline not too intense - until going down to and up and out from the pond.
I wouldn't plan on swimming here unless you really need to cool down after hiking briskly on a hot day. The water is beautiful from a short distance but looks kinda gross up close from stagnation.
The forest, views and creek were the highlights for me.

Manzanita Creek trail is a very easy stroll through the woods (should not be rated moderate). There really isn't any great views along the way, and I was very disappointed with the end destination. A nice view of one of the peaks from the bottom of it, but no areas to sit. The trail just ends in the middle of the woods. I did not really notice a meadow since everything was overgrown. Because we were disappointed we continued past the creek and climbed up as far as we could. Once higher up we enjoyed a much better view of the landscape, but without this added adventure the trail is pretty uneventful. If you're looking for a nice 7 mile easy walk then go for it. If you are more of a thrill seeker and want a great view, hike Chaos Crags (Crags Lake) trail. The trailhead is very close to the beginning of this trail and there's a significantly better view at the end (it's also shorter and more moderate).

Easy hike through a nice forested area. Towards the of the trail, you can go to a nice lake to take a swim or up to the top of the crags. Up to the top is a little scary as it's pretty steep and rock is loose but the view is spectacular.

Nice easy to moderate short trail through the forest with some shade spots to a beautiful opening with a view of Crags and a small lake to take a dip in. You can continue up to the Crags but it is somewhat dangerous due to climbing on loose rocks the whole way. The view from the top is definitely worth it though!

The trailhead wasn't as easy to see as most other trails. The sign was quite small.
We hiked this trail when the park was still only partially open but there was only a little snow left on Chaos Craig's. The hike to the little crater lake was lovely. It took us about 1h 15min and was more on the easy moderate side. The forest wasn't cleaned up very well yet but that didn't bother us. Nature was gorgeous and the little crater lake was lovely. The water was very clear and ice cold. Technically you're not supposed to hike up to the mountain top because of all the loose gravel. Since there were still some snow patches the ground was a little wet in certain parts which actually helped us get up to the first rock formation. We were able to see Mount Shasta from there but we didn't go further up because the gravel was quite loose. I imagine that it would be much easier to get up there when the ground is much wetter from the snow. Maybe right after the park first opens after the winter break. The views must be breathtaking on the summit.

furthest point allowed to drive to as of 6/11/17... you can walk the rest of the road bed but undrivable until trees and rocks are removed... i walked about 2 miles up to near Bumpass Hell... pretty sure any offroad hiking must use snowshoes as there is still many feet of snow pack

Nice short trail to stretch your legs. Excellent reflections of Mt. Lassen, so definitely worth the short stroll for photos in the morning, or at sunset before or after a longer day hike in Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Very nice and easy trail. We did this trail after setting up camp in the nearby campground within Lassen Volcanic National Park. It was nice to stretch our legs and get beautiful views of Lassen Peak reflecting in the lakes. The trail is mostly shaded and has no noticeable elevation change. If it is not busy with other hikers, you will definitely encounter chipmunks and birds.

A pretty trail but due to wildfire at some point there are a bunch of burnt and fallen/falling trees, many of which get in the way of the trail and makes it seem pretty dangerous. The trail seems pretty poorly maintained, though as we were leaving a group of 5 people or so were coming in with axes and saws, so maybe it's just a bit too early in the season for them to have cleaned it up yet.

Right now it's covered in snow. But super cool mile walk from the visitor center. Definitely worth another visit in the summer to experience the full glory of Lassen.

Great, decently easy hike with great views of the crags and a nice lake.
If you're feeling adventurous, you can head up to the top of the crags, but the view is at it's best around halfway up, near a cluster of pine trees. Continuing to go up gets scary fast- the rocks are loose and slippery, and you won't see Lassen unless you make it to the very top. We made it probably 90% up.
Overall, it's a solid hike, but I wouldn't recommend going far up the crags, it wasn't worth it.
