I would love to find those responsible for spray painting the walls. they should serve jail time. the hike is easy and short.

great hike, but hard seeing all the burn areas. rarely used, compared to the past. fish in lakes, mostly smaller with a few surprises. lots of wildlife, and established campsites.

Fairly crowded for the 4th of July weekend but still enjoyable. We have visited this lake many times as a family and after our relocation to Idaho will miss it very, very much.

We often bring friends and family, especially kids. At 6'2" I will bump my head on the ceiling in places, and. looking up you'll trip on nobby places on floor. The entire walk is slower than the milage indicates and outside part hot and dry in summer, carry water if you bring kids.

So much to see on this one loop!

Interesting cave. Rough ground to walk on. Be sure to have a good light source. We can check it off our bucket list.

Paved, easy trail. Beautiful views of the lake.

Excellent. Previous reviews say it well. Note: your smart phone flashlight will NOT suffice (unless you like running the risk of stubbing your toes or tripping). Note regarding dogs: a previous reviewer cautioned dog owners regarding tender paws and lava rock. Here's my point of view: if your dog primarily hangs out in the house or on a backyard lawn then you may want to be careful about taking your dog through. The lava rock underfoot is dirt and mud covered, but it does poke out in multiple places and could hurt a tender paw. If your dog regularly walks or hikes with you on varied terrain including cement, gravel, rocks, etc. and you take reasonable precautions about which path your furry friend takes in the cave, you should be fine. My husky walks and hikes frequently; his paw pads had no problem with the cave floor.

What an awesome experience. Bring your flashlights or you won’t make it through!! A short walk up well established steps leads you right to the opening of the cave. Within minutes you are inside the lava tubes. We went early in the morning after a rainstorm and could see water crystals on the roof of the lava tubes. Easy enough for kids but hold their hands because of the rough rocky ground. Definitely a must stop if in the area

The children and I love this dark hike through the lava tube! Everyone did well with their own headlamps, as the floor is quite uneven.

Took a boy scout troop hiking down to the falls. It's a pretty short hike, but the trail keeps going downstream for quite a ways. We followed it for another mile past the falls before turning back. The creek was roaring with all the rain and snow this month -- a great time to see the falls.

Very easy hike. Amazing how dark it is inside. I love introducing people to the cave.

the trail was really beautiful. Just like the other reviews, youll see the yellow and brown trail marker across the road from the parking area, close to the bridge. the trail is sketchy in some areas as there was loose gravel and rock, but an overall beautiful hike near the creek. There is a lot to see going along. I was a little disappointed at the end at the falls, there is a fish ladder to gelp the salmon up the stream. A bit of an eye sore, but the falls were beautiful. No real trail marker at the end of the hike except a bench.

Beautiful and well-maintained right now. Took 4 humans and 5 dogs. Had a blast. Bring a picnic.

Nice fall hike.

We climbed the trail on a sunny and breezy day in late October. There were vestiges of snow from the first snow of the winter season a few days earlier. The trailhead is easy to access even with a highway vehicle, although the road is almost entirely gravel. The trail itself is continuously uphill and becomes steeper as one nears the rim of the crater. It is not difficult, although there is occasional blowdown. There are good views of the Sacramento River valley and the mountains to the west, as well as Lassen Peak about 16 miles to the SSE, especially as one enters the brush zone. Gray Cliff, adjacent to Magee Peak, is steep but not vertical. From the peak, one can see Mt. Shasta and other mountains in the vicinity, although nearby Burney Mountain is obscured by Crater Peak. The latter can be reached by traveling along the rim.

started at the Tamarack trailhead and was a nice easy trail, even in snow.

Easy Trail to drive, hike or bike. Very scenic. The view from the lookout are amazing.

Easy, paved walk. The hike offers shade and beautiful views of Eagle lake.

Fun short hike through a dark cave. VERY IMPORTANT: BRING A FLASHLIGHT OR HEADLAMP WITH BATTERIES FULLY CHARGED. It is completely dark in the the cave. There are markers and plaques with info through out the cave. The temperature can be 15F to 20F lower than the outside temperature in the parking lot so you might want a jacket. Highly recommend this hike if your interested in volcanic geology or caves. We loved it.

Lovely paved nature walk along the lake. Well shaded and lake front aplenty. Our dogs loved it.

Awesome. A hidden gem!

Bring a flashlight! Its pitch black and completely fascinating. The ground is pretty uneven, but its spacious enough for a claustrophobic. I didn't even have to duck my head. Worth the stop!

Worth stopping to do when you are here! Doesn't take long and where else can you walk thru lava tubes!?!

The lake is in private property so you can't get to it.

Beautiful area. I appeared to be the only hiker out in the wilderness. Lots of dead and down across the trail. hopped over most, but had to crawl or navigate around others.
